[HP] Riddle's Spirit Behind

Chapter 052 Basilisk

At the end of the tunnel was a wall inlaid with gems that glowed with green light. With the dim light, she could vaguely see the mural carved with serpentine shapes on it.

"Slytherins who love snakes." Eleanor stuck out her tongue and said. She tried twice against the wall, and finally succeeded in opening the wall.

"I'm such a genius," she muttered under her breath.

It was a dim and spacious hall, and the faint light leaking from nowhere made the whole hall shrouded in a strange atmosphere.

"Oh, this is amazing!" Eleanor looked up in surprise.

Colossal serpentine statues twined around majestic stone columns lined the hall's sides, casting dark shadows on the ground. The surroundings were dim, as if some kind of black mist was permeating, making it difficult for her to see the scenery deeper in the hall.

She started stroking the stone pillar, and then walked forward slowly.

At this time, she suddenly heard a slight sound of footsteps behind her.

She turned sharply, and sure enough, she saw Tom standing behind her.Although his face was hidden in shadow, Eleanor could recognize him at a glance from his figure.

She heard him say coldly: "It seems that I still underestimated you, Eleanor. You were able to come here."

"I knew it! You really came in by yourself." Eleanor said dissatisfiedly, "Why don't you let me help you?"

"This has nothing to do with you." Tom took a step forward. "This is not where you should be."

"Then you shouldn't let me see how the entrance is opened." Eleanor retorted.

The words seemed to make Tom choke. He frowned, and said softly: "That was my mistake... I actually forgot how strong your curiosity is."

His brows were still furrowed, and he said coldly: "Now that you have seen this place, did you find anything?"

"I didn't find anything, what about you?" Eleanor asked back.

"Nothing," replied Tom dryly. "Whatever was here before probably isn't here now."

He raised his head and looked ahead. Eleanor turned around and followed his gaze before noticing a huge statue standing in front of him.Engraved on the statue is the face of an elderly male, staring straight ahead with no expression.

"Salazar Slytherin," Tom whispered, and then hissed something in Parseltongue.

"Come on, let's get out of here." Tom frowned at Eleanor.

But Eleanor stood still, for suddenly she heard a movement from the statue.

"There's a voice." She said softly, and at the same time, she suddenly felt an inexplicable panic.

The rustling sound continued to come from inside the statue, as if something rough was rubbing and sliding in a sticky pipe.

"What's that?" Eleanor said nervously.

Tom stared at the statue motionless for a few seconds, his face tensed.Suddenly he whispered: "Come back, Eleanor. We must get out of here at once—"

His words were interrupted.Eleanor was shocked to see the statue's mouth suddenly opened, revealing a dark hole. Some foul-smelling water flowed out from the hole, forming a small waterfall.

"Damn it!" Tom suddenly cursed. He raised his wand and stared at the hole intently.

At this moment, a green thing with bumpy scales appeared faintly at the entrance of the cave.Soon, it protruded its huge and terrifying triangular head from the hole, and the bright red letters were continuously spit out from its mouth.

It's a giant snake!

The nightmarish scene froze Eleanor's blood almost instantly. She couldn't move, and the great fear pinned her firmly to the ground.

The snake closed its eyes and slowly poked its body out of the hole.It was spitting letters, testing the smell in the air, while making a strange hissing sound.

"...the basilisk." Tom's voice seemed to come from far away, "...turn around, Eleanor...don't look at it."

Eleanor snapped back to her senses. She turned around and looked at Tom for help.

A dull loud noise came from behind her. It should be that the snake slipped from the hole and fell to the ground. With the rustling sound, Eleanor felt that it was approaching her direction.

She forced herself not to look back at it.

Just a short distance behind her, the snake hissed again.Eleanor trembled all over, and could almost smell the stench from the snake.

She saw Tom take a step forward, pointing his wand in the direction of the giant snake, hissing.

"What are you doing?" she said to Tom tremblingly.Fear was written all over her face, like a very ordinary, terrified girl.

"Stay still. I'll fix it," said Tom softly, holding up his wand.

Eleanor cautiously moved half a step to the side, trying to stay as far away from the snake as possible. She accidentally stepped on the slippery water, and her heel hit something cold and moving.

She let out a scream and looked down subconsciously.

A pair of shining yellow eyes faintly reflected on the water.

Tom can't believe that he actually found the Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets. He thought it was just a legend.

But now the basilisk was right in front of him.

He heard the basilisk whisper, "After waiting for many years, I am finally free... Thank you, son of the great Salazar."

He soon understood that the basilisk would not harm him.It will only follow his orders.

He stared intently at the "precious relic" left by Salazar, and issued the first command to it.For a moment, he forgot that there was another person beside him.

Suddenly, a scream successfully drew his attention back.

He turned his head suddenly to look in Eleanor's direction.

The expression on Eleanor's face froze instantly, and her body was quickly surrounded by black mist.

"Damn it!" cried Tom, and he walked quickly, watching Eleanor fall stiffly to the ground.

Black mist still surrounded her, and her body quickly changed from pearly white to a dark entity. She fell to the ground motionless, her eyes wide open, frozen in a frightened expression.

"Go back! Don't come out without my order!" He turned back to the basilisk and ordered hoarsely.

The basilisk obediently got back from the hole quickly.

Tom stared at Eleanor stiffened. He stretched out his hand subconsciously, but touched Eleanor's cold and hard cheek.

"Eleanor?" He called her name hoarsely.

But she didn't respond. He knew she wouldn't wake up.
