[HP] Riddle's Spirit Behind
Chapter 050 Tracking Tom
At 07:30 in the evening, Eleanor saw Tom coming out of the library from a distance. She followed quietly and found that this was not the way back to the common room.
Along the way, they only met the bloody Baro who was muttering something to the wall. The bloody Barrow didn't react at all to Tom passing by, but instead looked at Eleanor who was following far behind. He stared at Eleanor in the corner with dull and empty eyes, and his mouth opened slightly.
Eleanor made a silent gesture to Barrow the bloody man.
"You know? I'm following him." She lip-synced.
Surprisingly, the bloody Baron nodded slightly at her, and then walked away through the wall.
Finally, they went straight to the eighth floor.
What's here on the eighth floor?Eleanor stared curiously at Tom down the corridor. He was looking around cautiously, so Eleanor quickly hid behind a nearby witch statue.
After a little while, Eleanor poked her head out, and was surprised to find that Tom had disappeared.
The entire corridor was empty.Tom just disappeared out of thin air.
Eleanor wandered the corridor for a while, but still saw no sign of Tom.She finally had to give up.Just when she was about to leave, she suddenly heard a movement behind her.
She turned and was startled to see Tom pushing open a door and coming out.
However, she was sure that there was no door there before!
She quickly hid behind the statue again, and was grateful to find that Tom didn't see her.
This time Tom came directly from the eighth floor near the Slytherin common room, and then turned into a dark corridor. The corridor ended in the basement where they had their Potions lessons, but instead of going there, Tom turned into a darker, narrower corridor.
He walked to the end of the corridor, where stood two battered suits of armor, but nothing else. But Tom seemed very interested in this empty corridor. He began to tap on the wall with his hand, and occasionally took out his wand to test it.
"What the hell is he doing?" thought Eleanor.A thought flashed through her mind, but it was fleeting.
—he seemed to be looking for something.
Eleanor suddenly remembered that Tom had studied the secret passages of Hogwarts with her, but they hadn't gained anything special at that time.Eleanor only found some ancient ventilation ducts from the wall, and there was nothing worth noting other than that.
Soon, Tom gave up the search. He turned so sharply that Eleanor jumped, almost bumping into a portrait behind her.
"Be careful! She has hairy hands and feet, she doesn't look like a girl at all." The woman in the portrait reprimanded Eleanor while knitting a sweater.
"Damn it." Eleanor cursed.
But Tom had noticed this way.He raised his wand and said in a voice terribly cold, "Who is it?"
Eleanor shrank into the shadows.
"Come out, now," Tom ordered, coming this way from the sound of footsteps.Eleanor had never heard him speak in that tone.He was obviously only a 14-year-old kid, but his voice was chillingly cold.
Eleanor sighed and took a step forward, "It's me."
Tom stopped in his tracks and dropped his wand at the same time. His tense expression eased a little, and his tone was no longer so cold, but the unpleasant elements could still be heard.
"Are you following me?"
Hearing that his voice was no longer so cold, Eleanor was slightly relieved.
"I didn't follow you, I was just passing by," she said.
She didn't even believe her own words, and Tom certainly couldn't believe them.
Sure enough, he was staring at her suspiciously.
"Okay, let me be honest." Eleanor sighed, "I'm following you. But what about you? What are you looking for? The secret passage of Hogwarts?"
Tom obviously didn't want to answer her, he sneered, retracted his wand and walked forward quickly.
Eleanor still followed him closely.
Not long after walking, Tom suddenly turned around and looked at Eleanor angrily, "What the hell are you trying to do?"
"It's just on the way." Eleanor rolled her eyes and said.
Tom frowned and stared at her for a while, then suddenly his brows relaxed, "It seems that you have made up your mind to follow me, don't you?"
"So what?" said Eleanor obstinately, as if trying to provoke Tom deliberately. "Wherever I want to go is my freedom."
"Then you follow. I hope you don't regret it." Tom said with a sneer. He turned around and continued walking quickly.
"So you're not going to tell me what exactly you're looking for?" Eleanor asked, looking at Tom.He was looking closely at a plumbing in the girls' bathroom.
Tom didn't answer her, but took out the parchment in his arms and made a few marks on it.
Eleanor looked over his shoulder and saw that the map of Hogwarts was drawn on the parchment.Tom made a lot of marks on the map.He drew a lot of thin red lines interspersed among them, and those red lines connected into a network.
"Are you studying the drainage pipes of Hogwarts?" Eleanor asked curiously.
Tom squatted down, spread the piece of paper on the ground, then raised his head to look at Eleanor, slightly raised the corner of his mouth, "What can you see?"
Eleanor looked down at the pipes marked with red ink.She remembered that she had discovered some of these pipes last year, but she hadn't expected Tom to draw them all.
She soon realized that something was wrong.
"Wait, they don't all connect to the bathroom," she said. "Look here! It goes right around the bathroom—"
"They're not ventilation ducts either," Tom said. "I used scrying spells to figure out their general routes. They're not connected to the outside world at all." He said, pointing to a small piece of it, "Here, It's intersected with the Hogwarts drains. Everywhere else, it's completely separate."
Eleanor moved her fingertips along the thin red lines, frowning slightly, "It's true. Then what are they for?"
"They look very old," Tom said softly. "Unlike the drains, they've been here a long time ago. I guess they're probably older than Hogwarts."
"So, you already have some clues? Do you know what they say?" Eleanor said in a low voice. She has already begun to take an interest in this matter, and there is nothing more exciting than exploring the secrets of the ancient castle.
"All I have now is guesswork," said Tom, stroking the surface of the parchment, his fingers resting on one of them. There the ancient pipes became entangled with the drainage system, some of which even overlapped.
Eleanor suddenly discovered that that was where they were now.
She grabbed Tom's hand excitedly, "There must be a problem here, as long as we start from this bathroom, we will be able to—"
Tom jerked his hand back as if electrocuted.Immediately afterwards, an expression of confusion and surprise flashed across his face.
But Elinor did not notice his unnaturalness at all.
Tom frowned, and clenched the hand that Eleanor had grabbed behind his back.He quickly put away the parchment and stood up from the ground.
"Wait, let me look at that map again." Eleanor said.
"Time is precious," said Tom coldly.
Eleanor made a grimace, raised her head and looked around the bathroom, "Okay - so where are you going to start?"
