[HP] Riddle's Spirit Behind
Chapter 028 Avery's Despair
"Is it my illusion?" One day after the Christmas holiday, Avery curiously said to Tom who was reading a book on the opposite bed, "I think your relationship seems to be closer than before?"
At this moment, Eleanor was floating beside Tom hugging her knees. She was reading the book about goblin wars with him.
"Did the two of you become friends when I wasn't paying attention?" Avery asked again. There was obvious jealousy in his tone.
Without looking up, Tom said, "So keep away from me, Muggle. You're starting to be misunderstood."
"Misunderstand what?" Eleanor rolled her eyes and said, "Don't be stupid. I just want to see how the goblin Geji defeated the giants alone."
"The goblin Gage died in the last chapter." Tom said coldly.
"What?" Eleanor exclaimed in surprise, "You're peeking behind my back! Turn back quickly—besides, I don't believe Gage, the goblin, died so easily."
"He was killed by his own uncle." Tom said, raising his hand to turn to the next page.
"I can't believe it!" exclaimed Eleanor. "His uncle cared so much for him—oh, I see, he wants the sapphire sword, doesn't he?"
"The sapphire sword has been destroyed." Tom frowned and said, "If you look carefully, you will find that Uncle Grio has already had a murderous intent on Geji—because he wants the ancestral casting left by Geji's father." The secret recipe..."
"What? This is simply too cruel." Eleanor said.
"It's all because Ge Ji is too stupid," Tom snorted coldly. "If he showed off that secret recipe casually, he wouldn't be killed."
Afterwards, they began to discuss the contents of the book enthusiastically.
Tom felt that Eleanor didn't read the book with all his heart, and he impatiently corrected Eleanor's mistakes, while Eleanor felt that Tom's evaluation of the protagonists in the book was biased.
Gradually, the discussion escalated into a heated debate.
Avery watched them in amazement, and finally found he couldn't get in a word.So he tactfully lay back on the bed and practiced the knotting spell over a ribbon.
Soon the exams for the second year of school will be approaching.
Avery's metamorphosis turned out to be as bad as last year -- or worse.Even Abraxas, who was a year younger than him, could point out his lapses in shapeshifting.
"I've decided to give up Transfiguration," Avery said grimly.
"Don't say that," Eleanor encouraged him. "Don't forget, didn't you get an 'O' last year?"
"That's because at that time..." Avery suddenly hesitated, "...I think this year may not go so smoothly."
"As long as you work hard, you will definitely pass the exam." Eleanor continued, "You must have confidence in yourself."
"I don't think it's that simple." Avery said dejectedly, "Even if I can pass the written test, I won't be able to pass the practical test." Study notes in a daze.
"Relax, Avery." Abraxas frowned, as if considering how to comfort him, "Even if you get zero points in Transfiguration, Slytherin House won't send you to Hedge Patch went."
This statement successfully backfired.
In the next period of time, Avery spent almost every day moaning.
The day before the exam, Avery suddenly leaned in front of Tom, and said with tears in his eyes, "You must help me this time—just like last time."
This sentence happened to be heard by Eleanor.
"What do you mean 'just like last time'?" Eleanor raised her eyebrows and asked.
Startled, Avery flinched back immediately, rubbing his hands with vacillating eyes.
"Tom said...don't let me tell you," he whispered.
Eleanor crossed her arms, looked down at Tom, and said seriously, "What are you hiding from me, Tom?"
Tom waved his wand lazily and said a spell, and the green ribbon in front of him was immediately tied into a beautiful bow, "It's nothing."
Eleanor stared at him suspiciously.
"really?"
"of course."
"You helped him cheat, didn't you?" Eleanor asked sharply.
"So what?" He squinted at Eleanor, and at the same time untied the bow with a wave of his wand, "Don't forget, you were the one who begged me to help him pass the exam."
"But I never said I would cheat!" Eleanor opened her eyes wide.
"It was just a whim." Tom said nonchalantly, "Because Peeves just came to make trouble and messed up the classroom, so I just lent him the answer."
Avery sighed, "I don't know if Peeves will throw another stink bomb this year."
"You can't always count on this, Avery." Eleanor said in an elder tone, she frowned and looked at the dark-haired boy, "And you, Tom—you're teaching Avery badly, you know ? He had to work his way through the exam."
Tom turned the ribbon into a twine, leaned back on the pillow and said, "Yes, you're right. So you're on your own this year, Avery."
Avery stared at them in despair. "You know, your tone is just like my parents!" After he finished speaking, he turned his head angrily and got back into his curtain.
"Is there something wrong with his brain?" Tom said with a frown, throwing the hemp rope aside.
"Don't worry, he will understand that we are for his own good." Eleanor said with a sigh.
After the transfiguration exam the next day, Avery walked out of the exam room dejectedly.
"I definitely failed the test. My mom will definitely lock me up all summer," he told the others.
"Don't worry, I will write to you." Abraxas patted his shoulder and said comfortingly.
"Yes, we will send you candy on your birthday." Eleanor said, "By the way, when is your birthday?"
"July nineteenth," Avery replied feebly.
"I have an idea," said Eleanor. "Why don't we get together on Avery's birthday? I think Avery's is in London too."
"I have no objection." Abraxas replied, "My father should have no objection to my visiting the Bourne family during the holidays. He and old Jim Bourne are good friends."
"Then it's settled." Before Tom could react, Eleanor said quickly.
