Huo Du's Notes
Chapter 5 -
The following things came naturally, a child traveled thousands of miles to Shaolin to seek the scriptures.
To show his piety, he did not want anyone to protect him, and went to Shaolin alone to learn scriptures.
Even in order to ensure the authenticity of the scriptures, he does not require the scriptures to be taken out of Shaolin. He is willing to be an ascetic layman in the temple, copying scriptures, and praying for his parents and clan.
There is really no reason for the monks in Shaolin Temple to reject such a pure and true child.
After discussing with several other elders who are in charge of daily affairs, the elder of the supervisor agreed to my request to live temporarily in Shaolin Temple and copy the scriptures handwritten by Patriarch Bodhidharma.
I didn't even think that things went well, so that when the dean of the prison told me that I could go to the meditation room with him to settle down, I couldn't believe it.
The elders of the prison who got it teased me deliberately and said, "Why are you so surprised and think that we shouldn't agree to let you suffer five years of hard work in Shaolin Temple?"
I hurriedly shook my head like a rattle drum, "Of course not, I just heard that scriptures written by eminent monks are very precious. When I came here, I was still thinking that even if the scriptures were not buried with the eminent monks, you might not be willing to lend them to me.
I also wondered if there was a living eminent monk, so I begged him to copy it for me so that I could transcribe it. "
"A living eminent monk? Hahahaha, hahahahaha..."
The dean of the supervisor laughed and took me to the meditation room where the young novice monks lived.
It is said to be a meditation room, but it is actually a row of extremely simple bunk bedrooms. Except for the beds, each room has only one cabinet for bedding and one cabinet for daily utensils.
If I hadn't been exercising in this world for seven years, I would definitely say: This is fucking child abuse, it looks like a concentration camp!
But after these seven years of tempering, I will never say that again, because--
Even if I'm the son of the so-called tribal leader, wouldn't it be the same for me on the desert grassland to squat outside with my butt naked in the cold (you ask what is a squat? I won't tell you!)?
Isn't it the same that you can't take a shower a few times a year?not yet...
Forget it, don't say it, it's really tears.
In a word, if given a choice for me, I would rather live in a well-to-do family in modern society than be a so-called prince in this backward ghost place...
Sigh, stop complaining, in short, my living environment as a young layman in Shaolin Temple is very, um, simple.
Yes, austere, plain and simple, that's it.
The elder of the prison took me all the way to the end of the row of meditation rooms, and said, "The ones in front are all full, and there is only one person in this one, so you can stay here."
As he spoke, he stretched out his hand to beckon a handsome young monk, and said, "Jueyuan, help this little benefactor clean up, and he will live with you from now on."
Originally, I was relieved to hear that I only needed to live with one person. When I heard the name of this roommate, I couldn't help being stunned for a while, and then I kept looking at him.
Is this the legendary master Jueyuan who possesses unique skills without knowing it?My luck is really good.
Although the elder prisoner had a good impression of me, he was the second in command of the Shaolin Temple's civilian staff after all, so he didn't have a lot of leisure to spend time with a child, so he asked Jueyuan to accompany me to familiarize himself with the surrounding environment.
The young monk Jueyuan said respectfully, "My son obeys your orders," and then turned to me and said, "The almsgiver, please come with me."
From the inside to the outside, it looks like a little master.
Can't help but remind me of what is recorded in the God Sculpture Book. When he was old, he came out of Shaolin to recover the "Lenga Sutra" stolen by Xiaoxiangzi and Yin Kexi. He ran into Yang Guo and others.
"Your name is Jueyuan? Hello, my name is Huo Tiandu, please take care of me in the future." I don't know the etiquette of the Song Dynasty at this time, so I introduced myself in a half-Chinese and half-foreign manner, and then bowed slightly bowed.
As for the name, I took out a word from the name in my previous life and put it in the middle of Huo Dou. One is to commemorate, and the other is to get rid of bad luck!
He obviously hadn't seen many people outside the temple, so he was taken aback by my bow.
After being stunned for a while, he said with some embarrassment: "I, my name is Jueyuan, hello." After a pause, he added three words "Huo Tiandu."
This was my first historic meeting with Master Jueyuan.
The atmosphere of the whole meeting was cordial and friendly, which laid a solid foundation for our long-term friendship.
In short, from then on, I started a five-year cohabitation journey with Master Jueyuan, the life mentor of Zhang Sanfeng and Guo Xiang, the founders of Wudang and Emei in the future.
Although the living conditions in the temple are a little dull, but thinking about the Nine Suns Manual, I can bear anything, and my roommate is really good.
At first I thought he was about the same age as me, because he was about the same size as me from the outside, and he was much thinner, but after asking, I found out that he was four years older than me.
I was relieved when I thought about it again.
Originally, one grew up drinking kumiss and eating beef and mutton in Mongolia, and the other was raised in a temple with cabbage and tofu. It is normal for the body to be slightly different.
But just because I am four years older than me, and the elder of the prison personally ordered him to take care of me, Jueyuan really took care of me except for doing homework in the temple.
I'm not a difficult person to get along with, and the relationship between the two of us is getting better and better.
And I got the first volume of the four volumes of "Langa Sutra" in the four volumes of Bodhidharma's manuscripts as I wished.
Sure enough, as recorded in Jin Yong's book, this volume of scriptures is written entirely in Sanskrit, but between every two lines of Sanskrit, it is filled with Chinese in petty lowercase letters.
Because it really didn't look like a martial arts mystery, most people took it as a Sanskrit translation. Although it was later discovered that most of these translations were wrong, they didn't pay much attention to it.
I have mastered this set of scriptures by heart in five years, and I have absolute confidence.
However, you can't eat hot tofu in a hurry.
After all, I am just a seven-year-old child in the eyes of others. Of course, I certainly don't know Sanskrit, and I shouldn't know too many Chinese characters.
Of course, I really don't know Sanskrit, but the basics of Chinese characters are still good. The problem is - Chinese grammar is really not my strong point.
Therefore, my plan is also very simple - after entering the Shaolin Temple, I will pretend that I don't know many characters, and the scriptures copied are messy, and I will follow the young monks to learn characters in class on weekdays, so as not to arouse suspicion.
This is also one of the reasons why I plan to stay in Shaolin Temple for five years.
Since then, the four volumes of the Sri Lanka Sutra written by Bodhidharma have circulated in my hands in turn.
At first, the dean and the elders were worried that my children didn’t know the severity, and didn’t know how to take good care of these scriptures, and worried that they would get dirty or damaged by accident.
Later, I found that my attitude towards these scriptures was extremely respectful. Every time I opened them, I almost burned incense and bathed, and they gradually felt relieved.
I feel more and more that I am a devout little layman who devotes himself to Buddha and prays for his parents.
In addition, Jueyuan is also a rare good-looking baby, and they are more at ease with him taking care of them.
Three months later, the prison elder finally agreed to keep these four volumes of scriptures in Jueyuan and I's meditation room all year round so that I could transcribe them at any time in my spare time.
At this time, I had almost finished copying the Langa Sutra twice and the Diamond Sutra several times.
The "Diamond Sutra" is very short, and it is easy to copy. The Chinese version of the "Langa Sutra" translated by later generations has about [-] words. Although Sanskrit has fewer words overall, it is much more difficult.
At the same time, I was doing two things at once, copying Sanskrit while reciting the Nine Suns Manual between the words, the progress was really not fast.
However, a drop of water wears away a stone.
Three years have passed, and I have memorized both the "Diamond Sutra" and the "Langa Sutra" by heart. Of course, there is also the "Nine Suns Sutra".
These three scriptures, I guess it will be very difficult for me to forget them in this life.
Plus there are a few extras.
Including following the young monks of Shaolin Temple to learn one or two sets of basic Shaolin boxing, making friends with young monk Jueyuan and so on.
Having said that, I must express my admiration for little master Jueyuan, he is simply a born saint.
Apart from chanting scriptures and meditating every day, I have almost no interest in other things at a young age.
Unlike me, not only the Diamond Sutra and the Lankavatara Sutra, but for him, all the Buddhist scriptures recorded must be the wise words of the sages, and he will read them one by one if he gets them.
I can't help but sigh, no wonder he will be in charge of supervising the Sutra Pavilion in the future.
Another point, which is also the biggest difference between him and me, is that he really has no interest in martial arts at all.
I also asked him, what he meant was that swinging a spear and punching a fist is not in line with the original purpose of Buddhism, and it is not what a gentleman should do. Therefore, whenever he sees others practicing martial arts, he always avoids them.
Therefore, the sutras in the "Langa Sutra" recorded many methods for strengthening the body, improving the tendons and washing the marrow, which was a surprise to him.
You can strengthen your body without practicing martial arts. Jue Yuan thought it was very good, so he followed the instructions in the scriptures one by one.
As for whether to report to the elder supervisor the scripture that can strengthen the body mixed in Sanskrit in the "Langa Sutra", he never thought about it.
It's not that he wants to keep it private, but that in his opinion, this scripture was originally like this, and the people in the temple must know it, so he didn't pay much attention to it at all.
Jueyuan grew up in Shaolin since he was a child, so his understanding of most of the scriptures is naturally much better than mine. I am also happy to have him as a little master, but because I have the experience of later generations, I can occasionally show it.
For example, as a long-term heart patient and a top student in medical theory, I can also speak clearly about the operation of blood vessels and meridians in the human body.
Generally speaking, the two of us care about each other in life and help each other in business. Over the past two years, we have worked hard and made progress.
At least, under the intensive attack of green vegetables and tofu all year round, both of them have developed well. Not to mention they have grown a lot taller, and their physical fitness is better than other people of the same age.
Of course, this is not only due to the Nine Suns Manual, I asked the old couple who delivered food to bring some snacks from time to time, and the great monks didn't know as well as me.
Gradually, I felt the increasingly long and thick heat flow in my body. In the three years in the monastery, my Nine Suns Mantra was not only proficient, but at least a small success.
However, the time of parting finally came.
