i am a tree

Chapter 2

The sun wakes everything up.

It brings life to the earth.

The seeds are silently waiting for the right time to come out of the ground, and those plants that have survived the cold winter can't wait to grow new leaves.

They grow fast, and so do I.

It was only a few days later when I grew the second tender leaf.

This swamp formed because it is close to the river is not conducive to the growth of trees. Countless roots hang down from their branches close to the ground. I don’t know if it is the roots of parasitic plants or they themselves grow in order to compete for more nutrients. from.

The whole forest looks very crowded.

Only the big tree that I accidentally took root on it doesn't have so many roots, it looks lonely and deserted.

Of course, this may just be my illusion. Those roots hanging down to the ground may not be a good thing for these trees.

This big tree is very gentle.

I put the very thin roots that grew out into those big and small gaps, and climbed on it like a dodder.

It has never refused my request, and it is as generous and loving as a child.

The sunlight that leaks from its branches and leaves shines on my young leaves from time to time, just like animals can eat without being taught, and I start to get everything I need from the sunshine without any thinking.

For now, this is enough for me.

The only things I have to worry about are the little animals that come and go in the trees, especially the squirrels.

This time it wasn't just the familiar squirrel that appeared, but also a few little squirrels it brought with it.

After a winter rest, they start to move around again.

The round and chubby bodies I saw last autumn are much thinner now. They are rummaging through trees and on the ground, looking for any edible food that was left behind last year.

Several times, they hurried across the trunk of the tree I was in, almost breaking me in two.

I'd love to tell them to be careful.

Unfortunately, I can't speak, so I can only shake my two fragile young leaves to express my protest.

When I am frightened, the big tree will also respond.

Its leaves "rustled", and in the spring breeze, gently shaking the branches, the squirrel that almost stepped on me fell off the tree.

I saw it lying on the ground in a dizzy state, less than one meter above the ground, so it was not injured. It got up almost immediately, and returned to the small squirrel nest on the tree trunk.

After half a day, he carefully ran out of the nest again.

I am interested in observing everything around me.

Things that were previously undetectable even up close are now clearly visible.

However, my good days didn't last long.

Even a tree must face the survival of the fittest in nature. It will always create various disasters and accidents for you to test your ability to survive.

And of course, luck.

There is also a life-and-death competition between them, not only to compete for mates and territories, but also to face various enemies.

The annual rings of every big tree represent the sufferings encountered and the ruthlessness of the years.

The weather in early spring is like a child's face, which changes as soon as it changes.

"Dao Chun Han" is like a late mother, tearing off the veil of spring warmth, revealing the true face of cruelty.

Colder-than-winter weather has dealt an almost devastating blow to newly flowering and sprouting plants.

Every morning, the water is covered with a thin layer of ice. The originally prosperous forest is like an eggplant that has been beaten by frost, which is sick and has lost its vitality.

Not even alive.

Many newly germinated seeds did not escape this.

Beside the big tree, the beautiful forsythia tree with small golden flowers withered overnight, leaving only petals all over the ground falling on the wet mud of the swamp.

I am also not immune.

The twigs and new leaves that had just grown were attacked by the freezing and lost their vitality. The strong wind blew over, as if deliberately against me, breaking the branches and leaves that came out of the small pothole.

As a tree, of course I don't feel that pain anymore, it's the only place that gives me comfort.

However, pain is only one of the five senses, and I can still feel a sense of impending death from the broken stem.

The cold air plunged me into darkness again, and I thought there was no chance of ever waking up.

My tiny roots didn't all die under the freezing, but some of them hid in the gaps in the trunk of the big tree, were protected by it, and survived.

The nutrients that the big tree draws from the earth are delivered to these gaps without reservation, just like the emergency rescue and blood transfusion when human beings lose too much blood.

My roots greedily absorb all this.

And the big tree even grew a leaf in this icy "cold spring", which just covered the pothole in the trunk, as if adding a layer of insulation film to me.

In a piece of ice, a tiny bit of fire is kept, waiting for the next time when the right time comes.

I survived again.

My body adapted to this one step ahead of my conscious mind.

When I woke up, I didn't know that a few days later, the "cold spring" ended quietly. Although the wind blowing was still very cold, it was no longer a deadly low temperature.

On the stem I broke off, another bud slowly grew.

Shivering in the spring breeze.

Two days later, the spore stretched out and turned into a bright yellow leaf, and after another day, the color slowly changed to light green.

This crisis has had serious consequences for me.

My original stem was broken, and the stem that grows again is not as straight as before, but crooked, and I may become an ugly crooked neck tree.

This dealt a serious blow to my little heart, which has not yet broken away from the love of human beings for beauty, so that I couldn't lift my spirits for several days, and the leaf was also a little tired and lacked energy.

My roots grow on the big tree, as if I have become a part of it.

So, it can easily feel all about me.

It may even know about my sickly leaf, so I saw that the new leaf that had shielded me from the spring cold was separated from the trunk.

The obstacles blocking the sun disappeared, and I breathed fresh air, and of course, the long-lost warm sunshine.

The new, green leaf fluttered down.

As if he had completed his mission, he returned to the earth.
