[HP] Once Upon a Time in England
Chapter 14
Sirius walked into St. Mungo's, and the therapist at the door nodded to him.
"How is she today?"
"It's fine," the therapist told him. "It's stable."
He pulled up a chair and sat down beside the hospital bed, where Dorcas Meadows lay quietly, the steady rise and fall of her chest the only proof of her vitality.Sirius looked at her for a while, and his restless heart gradually calmed down along the way.
"I haven't seen you for a while." He said with difficulty, "Tomorrow...she will be kissed by the Dementor."
Once a story has a beginning, the follow-up becomes much easier.
"I didn't think she'd turn into Mrs. Parkinson and do things with Rozier. I—we—thought she was dead, but she wasn't. Frank said she didn't try to run away when the Aurors got her, Edgar felt that there was something hidden behind this matter, and he wanted to continue the investigation, but he couldn't... I did something wrong."
St. Mungo's Gardens could be seen from the window of Dorcas's ward. The courtyard was covered with a thick layer of golden fallen leaves, and he saw several therapists walking slowly with their patients.
"Harry likes her and says she's like his mother. She reads him stories and plays with him, but..." Sirius had a lot to say, but they all got stuck in his throat.
He wished he could do it all over again, but he kept making the same mistakes.
"Dorcas," he finally asked the sleepy man on the hospital bed, "if Caradoc was only judged to be missing, would you still go looking for the Death Eaters alone?"
If you have a little thought, would you be willing to stay in this dark world?
"Sirius." Someone knocked on the door. It was Edgar. "The Meadows and Mrs. Meadows have come to see Dorcas."
But why did Edgar appear here?
Sirius didn't press, and Dorcas' mother thanked him in a low voice for remembering Dorcas as he passed the Meadows couple.
This is what it should be, she and Caradoc taught him how to be a qualified member of the Order of the Phoenix.
Caradoc and Dorcas, they were each other's best companions, as later Edgar was with him. They were often joked about in the Order of the Phoenix.Everyone knew that Caradoc was fond of Dorcas and hoped to make a third couple within the Order.Caradoc, however, lingered and refused to confess, and Dorcas also kept pretending to be confused, letting others worry. When James and him were gossiping in private before, the two agreed that Dorcas did not call Caradoc, but after Caradoc was killed, it was Dorcas who went crazy and went alone to find the Death Eaters to avenge him ...
"Walk with me." Edgar issued an invitation. He saw through Sirius' thick dark circles and deathly pale face at a glance, but he deliberately didn't expose it.After the two walked side by side for a while, Sirius asked an unreasonable question:
"Have you thought about getting married again?"
After losing his wife and daughter, Edgar remained single. After sending his two sons to Hogwarts, he devoted himself to the Order of the Phoenix.Hearing Sirius' question, he shook his left hand, with a silver wedding ring on his ring finger: "I only have one wife."
"Have you always loved her?"
"Yes. Even when we were at our worst, I never doubted our love." Edgar smiled, "Otherwise we wouldn't have gotten married."
"But love is not eternal," Sirius seemed to be talking to himself, "nor is it the whole of life."
"Then why don't you go on a date with a new girl?" Edgar asked quickly.
He was speechless.
"No feeling? Still don't want to go?"
"I don't know," he said, "maybe it's both."
"Now we are not in the Ministry of Magic, so I will tell you a truth as a friend." Edgar stopped walking, "If you have someone in your heart, you will never fall in love with the second person anyway."
"Why did you tell me this." Sirius couldn't laugh, "These words are... unnecessary to me."
"Really? What I want to tell you is this: Morgara Parkinson's execution date has been postponed indefinitely."
"Infinite delay?" Sirius thought he had an auditory hallucination, which was unprecedented in the history of the Ministry of Magic.
"Because two letters were sent to Barty Jr. and Mogara respectively this morning. The former's letter was given to him by an unwitting assistant in the "Daily Prophet", and the latter's letter was hidden among the breakfast sandwiches. There was only one sentence in the letter to Barty Jr., guess what it is?"
"Say it." Sirius urged impatiently, his heart beating faster.
"'Don't provoke Rozier'." Edgar reached into the pocket of his robe, "As for her, here it is."
It was also a piece of paper, with a sentence written in bright red fonts, which made people shudder:
【Want to play? 】
"It has been identified as Rozier's personal letter. There is also a small strand of hair that has been cut off along with the letter, and it is impossible to find out who it is." Edgar sighed, "She fainted when she saw it. In the past, sent secretly to St. Mungo's, which is why I'm here - to continue investigating the Morgara Parkinson case."
Without giving Sirius a chance to visit the patient, Edgar immediately raided Parkinson Manor with a freshly issued warrant. The person who received them was naturally Edmund. Facing the power of attorney personally issued by the Minister of Magic and the Director of the Department of Law Enforcement, he seemed annoyed but powerless. Carpet search.
"You're the only one at home?" Edgar was in charge of interrogating Edmund when the others were busy.
"Yes."
"Where is your daughter?"
"She has been crying for her mother. I have no choice but to ask a distant relative to take her to a holiday villa in the country for a while." The answer was impeccable.
Reason told Sirius not to do that, but he still couldn't help but look at Edmund several times from the corner of his eye.Obviously, the secrecy was done very well, and he didn't know about the postponement of the execution day.
He looked away and began to look at the photographs on the fireplace. The family in the photo seems to be happy and carefree, a typical model family. And the main character is undoubtedly the little girl, who has a picnic, swings, learns to draw... She is good at drawing.he knows. She had given him a portrait before, and he had returned her a locket in return. He has always cherished that painting as a thought. However, now she is teaching her and another person's daughter to draw, and her beloved locket has disappeared.
Sirius blinked and looked at the photo again. Then, he turned around and interrupted the conversation between Edgar and Edmund: "Why is she wearing that necklace in the photo of your family of three?"
That deadly, dead-on-touch necklace. Why does she still wear it in her free time with her husband and daughter?
"Don't tell me she likes it." Sirius picked up a photo frame and handed it to Edgar. He caught the obvious panic in Edmund's eyes, "Why?"
The other party still wanted to quibble, and Sirius could even hear the voice of his brain spinning rapidly: "Listen, I..."
"Edgar!" An Auror rushed over almost like a whirlwind and stuffed a stack of torn letters into his hand, "You have to read this!"
The letter was divided into two stacks, which were neatly tied together, and one of the stacks had been opened by the Auror.Edgar picked up the top one, and Sirius leaned forward to look at it together.
This is a simple hand drawn greeting card from the hand of a young child.
[Dear mother:
Merry Christmas to you.I miss you very much.
Ada]
Ada—the blood seemed to rush to her head, and Edgar was sure he had heard the name in her memory. He didn't care about explaining or discussing with Sirius, and hurriedly picked up the next one. This one is obviously more recent, there are no stick figures on it, but there are two more lines of words.
[Dear mother:
How are you?I started to learn to draw with other kids in the town, and the teacher said I was doing well.Mrs. Barmer told me that you used to like drawing sketches best, so I should be gifted.
Can you teach me how to draw in the future?
Ada]
"Ada is—" Sirius was stunned by the shocking news, isn't her daughter named Pansy? She and Edmund had told him to take care of their daughter when she and Edmund finally said goodbye, but these text messages were clearly written on Muggle paper.
"Give me that one. Take any one." Edgar didn't have time to talk to Sirius, he couldn't hold back his eagerness. Finally, they were finally close to the middle of the puzzle. In his busy schedule, he ordered an Auror to control Edmund. The latter's expression was as brilliant as a paint plate, but he couldn't even say a word of rebuttal.
The second stack of letters obviously came from an adult, and Edgar knew that his guess was correct as long as he read the beginning.
[Dear Hyacins:
If it is convenient for you, you might as well send a recent photo of you. Ada always looks at your old photos over and over again. She is very interested in you and always asks me about you.I took part of the money last time to send her to ballet and painting classes, and I plan to save the rest first, you sent too much...]
"Is Ada her other daughter?" Edgar asked the most crucial question, "Is her biological father you?"
"Of course!" Edmund replied without hesitation.
"Then why doesn't she live with you?"
"because……"
Edgar didn't bother to listen to his lame lies, and the letter confirmed his guess. He waved his hand: "I'll meet you in the Ministry of Magic interrogation room, Mr. Parkinson. Find out if there's a picture of this 'Ada'."
"This..." He was trembling all over, and all her previous actions seemed to be clues worth studying: Is that so?Is it what he thinks it is?
"Calm down first." Edgar looked at him, not knowing whether to say congratulations or apology, "It's not settled yet."
