[HP] Three thousand days of innocence
Chapter 8 Reality
After that dinner date, Ginny and Draco didn't see each other for a week and a half because of work - Draco told her that someone from the Michelin Guide was coming to the restaurant and the restaurant owner was busy making sure everything Everything was flawless, and Ginny herself was overwhelmed with paperwork, ministerial security work, and family dinners. She doesn't know which of the three is the worst.
At least she'd actually be able to go to dinner at the Burrow this time, because Harry hadn't asked her to stalk anyone this weekend.Molly made it clear that she had to come because she was worried that her only daughter would not be eating well and not getting enough rest from her dangerous and anxiety-inducing job.Ginny was thankful she didn't have to cook anything, because after Draco cooked her a fantastic salmon dish, she would miss him terribly if she even looked at a pot of canned vegetable soup.Missed more than she expected.Maybe her mother was right when she said her job was dangerous.
She nonchalantly asked Hermione how to send text messages on her phone, and then she and Draco started a lively chat on the phone. She became good at translating magically disturbed text messages and laughing at some of the little jokes and silly things he sent her. They asked each other about their ideal vacation destination, dream job, and other things.Draco told her that his favorite color was green, his birthday was July 29, and he was 26 years old.Ginny didn't know when his real birthday was, but she knew he was actually [-].Why would he change his age—make himself older?
Unfortunately, while she knew Percy hadn't said anything, her family soon learned that something was wrong when she came to the Burrow that Saturday.
Ginny came in through the back door around seven o'clock, wiped the mud off her shoes, and hung her cloak on a row of hooks on the wall.Voices from the front room told her the rest of the family had arrived, but there were two red-haired figures in the kitchen—her mother, putting something in the oven, and the other, standing by the cupboard, Pour the pumpkin juice into the glasses on the tray. They all looked up when they heard her come in.
"Hello, Your Majesty the Pope." Ginny smiled and said to George.
"Bless you, my child." He replied with a smile, tilting his head subconsciously so that his long hair covered the delicate pink skin where the ears used to grow.
"Dear Ginny, I'm glad you're here this time," her mother said, kissing her on the cheek, but speaking as if it was her own fault that Ginny didn't come last time.
"How's the Ministry?" George asked.
Ginny sighed, and stepped forward to help him pour pumpkin juice. "Yaxley's pre-trial is coming up soon, so of course everyone's busy remembering all the bad things he did eight years ago—"
"It's important work, Kim," George said hoarsely, looking away.He paused for a moment, which meant that Fred was getting into his point of view. "I know I can't do it. I want too much to..." He shrugged and didn't finish the sentence. He hasn't finished talking too much these days.
Everyone greeted her warmly when she entered the front room with him. "Aunt Ginny, Aunt Ginny!" the children cried, and Teddy, Victoire, Anton, and Hugo ran to hug her.
"Look at you!" cried Ginny, looking lovingly at her nieces and nephews. "You've all grown a foot since I last saw you."
"You look so refreshed, Kim," her brothers said as they took turns hugging her.Her father agrees. "It's great to see my little girl look so good," he said with a proud smile.
"I really don't know what you're talking about," she said, giggling, and sat down on the couch, with Hermione sitting next to her with little Rose in her arms. "I don't wear makeup, these clothes should probably be washed—"
Just then, "La Marseillaise" rang in her trouser pocket, and Ginny realized that she had forgotten to leave her mobile phone in the apartment. "Oh, I'll be right back!" she cried, jumping up and running to the door. Furong sang to the music absent-mindedly: "Go forward, sons and daughters of the motherland, rise up quickly..."
She had to run all the way out the back door and through the magical barriers surrounding her home to safely answer the phone. "Hello?" Ginny gasped slightly.
"Hi, Kim."
She immediately showed a happy smile. "Hi. How's the restaurant going?"
"Mr. Grayson is going to have a stroke," Draco said dryly, and she could imagine him rolling his eyes. "Two line chefs are sick, so I'm going to be making filet mignon while I'm rushing. Chef Mr. Dubois is even back. He hasn't made a main course in years. It's all messed up." A long sigh of pain. "Now Grayson says he has reason to believe we're going to star down, so we're all... oh shit." He laughed. "I want to hear some really, really good news right now."
"Okay...I'm leaving get off work early on Thursday."
"It was great. I just went to the store that night. I knew we were going to do something."
"I am looking forward."
"Well, the waiter gave me a bad look, so I have to hurry. I miss you."
Every time he said that, it still made her heart sway, so she paused before responding, "I miss you too. Goodbye."
"See you on Thursday." He hung up the phone.
Ginny drifted back to the Burrow, and everyone was already sitting in the crowded kitchen getting ready for dinner. They all turned and looked at her in shock.
"You have a boyfriend!" cried Hermione. After that, the pan was fried in the kitchen.
"Why didn't you say so earlier?" Ron demanded.
"Can I see your phone?" Mr. Weasley asked eagerly. "I want to know how you use it to talk."
"Is he French?" said Fleur. "Only your phone rings with Marseillaise, so I assume he is."
"You already know that, don't you?" Bill said, nudging Percy, who was calmly eating Mrs Weasley's chicken and ham pie.
"My confidence has never wavered," said Percy haughtily.
"Well, yes," exclaimed Ginny. "I have a boyfriend, he's not French, I didn't say anything because I knew you would all react like that!"
"You're lucky Harry isn't here," said Ron.
"I'm not Harry's property, thank you very much," said Ginny darkly. "It just so happens that I like this guy a lot, so Harry can go—"
"I'm not going to finish that sentence," Mrs. Weasley reproached, tapping Ginny's knuckles with a wooden spoon. "But I bless you, dear."
Ginny was dumbfounded. "You—what?"
"It's perfectly normal to want to date someone," she said, dumping a large piece of chicken and ham pie onto George's plate. "Especially when you're at a point in your life where you're in the dark. Once you've talked to other people, you realize that you and Harry are meant to be."
Percy and Ginny looked at each other across the room.He gave her a wry smile and shrugged, and Ginny's shoulders slumped in frustration. She will never listen to it, will she?
For the rest of the night, she avoided all digging questions, refusing to reveal more about her mysterious boyfriend, but when she went to the Ministry of Magic on Monday morning, Harry also found out about Draco. "I didn't know you were dating someone else," he muttered.
She rolled her eyes. "Excuse me, should I ask permission first?"
"No, it's not—I mean—"
"You should go to Yolomida Vann." Ginny suggested while flipping through the documents on the table. "Every time she looks at you, she strips you naked with her eyes."
Harry blushed. "I—damn it, Ginny, I just came to ask if you could replace Angelina today. She's off work with the flu."
"Replace her?" Ginny noticed immediately. Is it possible that she won't have to do a full day of paperwork? "What do you do instead of her?"
"Because she was involved in the arrest of Yaxley, she has to attend his preliminary hearing," Harry said. "You should be in Court Nine in half an hour."
"Merlin—" Ginny jumped up from her desk, ran to Angelina's neater desk, and began rummaging through Yaxley's criminal file.As Harry said, she had only three and ten minutes to get acquainted with every bad thing he had done or been accused of.
The Wizengamot was halfway there when she entered the courtroom, and she slipped into a seat next to Romilda Whan and Danny O'Connell, the two Aurors who were hunting Yaxley.Romilda gave her a cool look, then turned away; Danny smiled pleasantly.
Not long after Ginny came in, the far door opened, and Yaxley came out, wearing tattered robes, escorted by two tall and burly guards.Although Yaxley sat on the wooden chair in the middle of the room, the heavy chains wrapped tightly around him, he still sneered at the Wizengamot arrogantly.
"Opheus Canis Yaxley, you are in the Supreme Court of Great Britain to stand trial for your crimes," Kingsley Shacklebolt announced from his seat at the front of the courtroom.Around him, the few remaining Wizengamots watched the defendant intently. "Once you are found guilty or not guilty, you will then be tried by a full court, at which time you may defend yourself in whatever way the Wizengamot deems necessary and prudent. Does the court all agree?" the people murmured Nodding. "Then it's time for the court."
"Mr Yaxley, you are charged with knowingly and willingly joining the so-called Death Eaters - once known as Knights of Walpurgis, with intent to harm Muggles, Muggle-born wizards and disapproving Death Eater leaders - What is your response to the late Tom Marvolo Riddle, the pureblood wizard?"
Yaxley squinted at him. "I've been guilty since the day I was born," he said sarcastically.
Kingsley raised an eyebrow. "Your lack of remorse is disturbing," he said slowly, in a low voice. "Some people think we should throw you into Azkaban without trial, and I'm starting to wonder if we should, too."
"He's a citizen of the wizarding world," panted a fat old man to Kingsley's left. "No matter how serious his crime, he must stand trial." A murmur of agreement came from the Wizengamoth, but most shook their heads gravely.
"For the record, Yaxley confesses to being a member of the Death Eaters, a malevolent organization whose purpose is to injure and kill," Kingsley said, as the court scribe wrote it down on the scroll. "Mr. Yaxley, you are charged with..."
The pre-trial seemed endless to Ginny, who soon realized that there wasn't really any real need for her; her presence was just a formality.Bored as she was, Ginny found herself growing more and more horrified by what the wizard down there had done during his long and malevolent career as Tom Riddle's lackey. The charges against him continued: torture, murder, the Imperius Curse, theft, disguises, unauthorized magical experiments - Death Eaters were obviously busy when they weren't serving their Master.
When Ginny began to doze off, Romilda elbowed her in the side, and Ginny smiled gratefully at her, but she just gave her a cold stare.Ginny rolled her eyes, then looked back at Yaxley, just in time to hear a very strange accusation.
"Mr. Yaxley," Kingsley continued. "You are now accused of murdering Colin Creevey, an underage student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Witchcraft and Wizardry. What is your response?"
Yax snorted. "No, I didn't do this."
There was silence in the courtroom, as Yaxley had previously admitted to all the charges against him.Kingsley stared down at him, looking as calm as ever, but the rest of the Wizengamot exchanged looks of surprise and disbelief around him. "Are you sure you're innocent?" Kingsley said slowly. "An eyewitness said he saw you cast a spell that ended the life of Creevey Boy."
Yaxley laughed. "I witnessed it," he boasted. "I saw that disgusting Mudblood get what he deserved for stealing magic." He lunged forward, the chains stopped him, and he screamed like a man possessed. "The magic is ours, not theirs! It will never be theirs!"
Several members of the Wizengamot protested loudly, but Kingsley raised his hand and they fell silent. "The court has its own order," he said, looking at everyone. "Mr Yaxley, do you maintain your innocence in the murder of the Creevey boys?"
"Of course," said Yaxley, leaning back. "It was the Malfoy boy who killed him, right?"
