Leave My Wings Alone
Chapter 15
On sunny days, everyone is happy to stroll in the garden for a while.
When Dean was passing by the fountain, someone bumped his head on the leg. He looked down and found that it was a girl of eight or nine years old who hit him.
"sorry."
Dean knelt down, looked her in the eyes and said, "It's okay, are you playing here alone?"
The little girl shook her head timidly: "I'm with my grandmother, she's right there." She stretched out her finger to the front left.
Dean reached out and ruffled her hair. "Is your grandmother sick?"
"Yes, but she'll be fine."
"We all hope so, don't we? Can you tell me your name?" Dean asked.
"Margaret," the little girl replied.
"My name is Dean." Dean held out a hand to her, "I'm also a patient here."
Margaret also reached out to shake her hand. She has a pair of beautiful eyes, and her eyelashes are curled up because of a smile: "I wish you a speedy recovery."
A faint cough suddenly sounded in the noisy voices. Margaret withdrew her hand in panic, and ran back to her grandmother quickly, holding her body so anxious that she couldn't speak.
Dean stood up and walked to the grandparents and grandchildren. He observed Margaret's grandmother and found that she was coughing badly and gradually becoming uncontrollable.
Margaret also sensed that something was wrong, and tried hard to push the wheelchair to get her grandmother away from here.
Dean gently pushed her away, took the wheelchair and said, "Let me do it, I'll take you back."
Margaret didn't bother to say thank you, but just nodded blindly.
Seventeen minutes later, Margaret and Dean stood at the door of the isolation ward. The little girl was crying because the doctors and nurses would not let her in to see her grandmother. Dean, on the other hand, looked solemnly through the glass at the patient lying inside, without making a sound.
"Don't cry, Margaret." He knelt down, hugged the little girl in front of him, and patted her on the back with his hands.
After a while the doctor came out, he let go of the little girl and went up to him and asked, "How is she?"
The doctor looked sad and replied not very optimistic: "The situation is very serious, we are doing our best..."
He moved his mouth, as if he wanted to say something, but when he took a closer look, he found that Dean was also wearing a hospital gown, and asked suspiciously, "What's your relationship with the patient?"
Dean was thinking of an excuse when Margaret came up to him, raised her head and said to the doctor, "Dean is my friend."
The doctor was still a little suspicious, but Margaret's parents never showed up except the first day. He was eager to inform the family of the current situation. Margaret was obviously not the best candidate, so he gritted his teeth and finally said: "Her symptoms It's strange that there were only bruises on my body on the day I was admitted to the hospital, but it gradually became more and more serious, as if the wound was constantly being destroyed."
"How could this be?" Dean frowned.
"The strangest thing is that these symptoms happen so fast that it's too late to stop. You'd better find a way to ask the little girl's parents to come in person." The doctor continued, "I've never encountered such a strange thing. .”
Dean nodded mechanically, pulling Margaret away first.
He led Margaret back to his ward, then took out a box from under the bed, took out the clothes inside, and said to the little girl, "Wait here for a while, I'll come out right away."
Margaret didn't cry or fuss, she sat quietly at the foot of the bed and nodded.
Dean breathed a sigh of relief, and went to the bathroom to change out of his hospital gown and put on his own jacket and trousers. He threw the gown in the trash, opened the door and walked out.
"I have a younger brother, his name is Sam, and he also wants to help your grandmother, so you can come with me to meet him, okay?" Dean always felt weird after saying this, and now he was almost Like a human trafficker.
Unexpectedly, Margaret obediently agreed without asking anything.
"Your awareness of prevention seems to be a little weak," Dean said a little nervously, "if you encounter a bad guy with malicious intentions, it's easy to catch him."
Margaret looked at Dean with bright eyes and said, "I know you're a good guy."
"Good eyes." Dean smiled, and he picked up the little girl, "Just a reminder, don't put your arms around my neck, okay, I promise I won't throw you off."
Margaret agreed.
When Dean made it to the downstairs of the hospital without incident, Sam was already waiting there.
Dean put Margaret down and introduced Sam to her: "This is my brother, as I said earlier."
Sam bent down to look at her and said softly, "You're Margaret Jones, right? I know you."
"Will you help my grandmother?"
"of course."
Imlala stopped not far away, and Sam asked her, "Would you like to sit in the impala for a while?"
After Margaret nodded, she followed Sam and Dean to the Impala.
Dean nodded at her, and she followed Sam into the car, sitting in the passenger seat, Dean didn't go in, he leaned against the car and listened to their conversation, the door was left open.
Sam turned to look at Margaret, swallowed, looked her in the eyes and said, "Now, do you have anything to tell us?"
The little girl lowered her head and twisted her fingers together, as if hesitating.
Sam continued: "On May 5th, you and your family were traveling in Missouri, and then you were involved in a car accident. Because you and your parents were wearing seat belts, it was just a minor car impact. So you're all safe and sound, but..."
Margaret continued his words: "But grandma wasn't like me and my parents. She was hurt. She was in the passenger seat and she was bruised by broken glass."
Hearing that she was willing to speak, Sam was relieved: "But can you tell me why the grandmother who was dying in the hospital recovered intact the next day?"
Margaret shook her head slightly: "I don't know."
Sam looked up and met Dean's eyes.
Dean leaned his head on the roof of the car and said to Margaret, "We will help you, and you have to trust us."
"But I really don't know anything, I just keep praying and my grandmother will be fine."
There would be no progress in asking any more questions, and Margaret didn't look like she was lying, so Dean had to pat her on the head, let her sit in the car for a while, and gave Sam a wink to get him out of the car .
The two of them stopped a little further away, and Dean said, "What did Margaret's parents tell you?"
"As I told you on the phone, the family traveled to Missouri and on the way back they got into a car accident and only the oldest grandmother was injured and they took her to the local hospital and she died the next day. When I visited the doctor, I found that she was cured."
"So the parents were taken aback, only the little granddaughter was willing to get close to the grandmother, is that right?"
Sam shrugged: "I don't think it's Margaret's parents to blame, after all, it's too mysterious."
"Let me guess, the devil's deal?" Dean glanced at Impala intentionally or unintentionally.
Sam was silent for a while, not knowing how to make a conclusion for a moment, and then said: "She said that the only thing she did was to pray, whether something bad would be summoned."
Dean sighed: "It depends on whether she is willing to say it. Her grandmother's situation is very bad now. I don't know if she can survive tomorrow night."
When Dean and Sam took Margaret back, they met Adolphus, who was surprised to see Dean in civilian clothes, and even more surprised to find Sam standing beside him.
Dean went ahead and explained, "I went shopping, I don't want to escape."
He added: "I think I'm cured. You'd never guess what I saw in the mirror in the shower this morning—my wings. It's gone. I can't find it."
Adolphus was stunned: "Really?"
"Yes," Dean stepped forward and patted him on the shoulder vigorously, "You are the best doctor I have ever seen. I will go through the discharge procedures later."
After speaking, he led Margaret away immediately, and when Adolphus shouted behind him that he should take a final test, he also disappeared around the corner in a hurry without hearing it.
Seeing that he couldn't catch up with Dean, Adolphus had to turn to Sam for help: "Your brother..."
Sam said: "You are a very good doctor, Dean is back to normal, I will go and discharge him in a while."
"...I still suggest that he do a psychological test at the end. You know, many patients will falsely claim that the disease will not reappear because they don't want to receive treatment."
Sam said sincerely: "You may not believe Dean, but you can believe me. He must be discharged from the hospital as soon as possible. In order to celebrate his return to normal, we specially prepared a trip to Missouri for him, just this afternoon."
In the end, all the Winchesters left Adolphus and left. The bewildered doctor stopped where he was, and after a long while, he said to himself: "Is my medical skill really that good?"
Neither of the two brothers who were good at fooling people heard this sentence, and they had already brought Margaret back to the corridor of the isolation ward. The little girl sat in the waiting chair without saying a word, Sam sat down with her, and Dean talked to the doctor.
"We have contacted her family members, and they said they will come over as soon as possible." The doctor looked embarrassed, "It's just..."
Dean turned around and looked at Margaret, who was empty-hearted, and pulled the doctor aside before asking, "How many days are left?"
"It's hard to say, I don't know if I can survive tomorrow night."
Dean's expression changed. He returned to the waiting chair, took a deep breath, called Margaret's name and asked, "Have you ever met a strange person? He said that it only takes a small price to pay for it." If you can save your grandmother."
Margaret raised her head when she heard the second half, and her reaction after listening was completely beyond Dean's expectations. The little girl cheered up a little and asked hopefully, "Is there really such a person? How can I meet him?"
It looks like she didn't make a deal with the devil.
"You better not meet a guy like that, he won't give you what you want." Dean sighed.
Margaret lowered her head again in disappointment, and after a while she said, "If I pray like last time, grandma will get better."
Sam asked curiously, "How do you pray?"
Margaret took out the cross hanging around her neck from inside her collar and said, "I pray to God."
But God isn't there anymore, Dean thought sarcastically, looking away from a wall.
After a while, Sam stood up and went to discharge Dean from the hospital. He asked Dean if there was anything in the ward that he needed to take away, and Dean reminded him to remember to put away the paintings on the wall for himself. As for the rose, Dean was too embarrassed to say it, he always felt that Sam would stare at him with creepy eyes, but his intuition told him that Sam Super Nosy Winchester would definitely take that rose with him.
