[Pride and Prejudice] Liz's Little Vest
Chapter 90 Lydia & Lefroy
London is a rapidly developing city, like the smog that is constantly filling the city.
One of Tom Lefroy's favorite things to do is to observe which are Londoners and which are tourists or businessmen from the countryside on the streets of London.
For him, Londoners are special.
As Mr. Macaulay said in "History of England":
"When a manor from Lincolnshire appears in London, he is quickly distinguished from the inhabitants of the land, for he looks as conspicuous as a Turk or an Indian sailor."
Although the manor owner from the country may be richer than him, as a Londoner, he always has a sense of superiority.Because the manor owner can only get the allegiance of his tenants, and only sticks to his comfort zone.
And Londoners - Londoners are adventurous and take on new things without fear.
The carriage is driving on the street, the mayor's parade is so long that people stop and sigh, the street girls with heavy make-up, and the dazzling array of accessories in the store...[1]
All in all, Tom Lefroy is proud of being a city guy.Even though, he is still attached to his uncle and has no independent assets.
When he first met Lydia Bennett, he had the heart to laugh at her, because she was a country lady who couldn't read and was only noisy.
When she came to the underground boxing ring to watch him fight, he deliberately ignored her.
But watching a beautiful and nimble little sister follow behind him, Lefroy felt his vanity inflated.
When Lydia gradually ignored him, his inner thoughts arose, and he wanted to find her.Find her and turn around him again.
However, it was in the process of chasing back that he discovered Lydia's unique qualities.
She's a country girl, but she's--goodness--what a imagination!
Miss Lydia Bennet was quite a born artist.
He took her to the exhibition, and she didn't flatter the paintings for no reason, as country folk usually do, and they occasionally mistake London street girls for royalty.
Lydia first looked at it very carefully for a while, and then discussed with him how to choose the color of this painting to make it more beautiful.
Her comments are on point, Lefroy thought, and couldn't help wanting to communicate with her more and more.
From a month in London, to writing letters, and then dating in London.
After the two chatted about life and ideals, and encouraged each other to make progress, they were only one step away from clarifying their relationship.
However, Lefroy is very clear that his economy is very dependent on his uncle who is a judge, and will his uncle agree with his marriage to a country lady?
One day, he asked insincerely: "I met a lady from the country at the gate of the court today. Her name is Lydia Bennett..."
Uncle paused while flipping through the newspaper.
"Tell me again, what's the lady's name?"
"Miss Lydia Bennet."
"Are you sure it's...Miss Bennet?"
"Yes." Lefroy was a little confused.
"Where is her hometown from?"
"Longbourn, twenty miles from London."
"Oh my god! It's really that Bennet family!" Uncle said in surprise, "Do you know each other?"
Tom Lefroy was stunned. He didn't expect such a weird result.
I didn't know until I found out that Lydia Bennet's sister turned out to be Her Royal Highness Viscount Elizabeth Bennet!
With this relationship, his flattering uncle was naturally very satisfied with this marriage.
Really...God help!
The author has something to say:
[1] The beginning is inspired by Macaulay's "History of Britain".Slightly blurred the timeline.
I wanted to write the CP of Tom and Lydia, because I wanted to make up for the regret that the two were not together after watching Jane Austen. It was originally intended to be written in the main thread, but hey... I feel that the level is still not enough and needs to be improved~
