[Pride and Prejudice] Liz's Little Vest

Chapter 83 Mary & Little Jenner

Mary is not an ordinary girl in this era.

She herself understood very well.

Of course, this is by no means commendatory.

Because since she was a child, almost everyone said she was dull, and almost everyone laughed at her for holding the magnificent tome all day long.

But that was the truth, and she didn't want to deny it.

Suppose she were a very hungry lad, With a few pennies of brown bread to feed her stomach. But suddenly passed by a beautiful bookstore - she would definitely stop, stop and read, and then use the money bought for bread to buy books.

Because of such a strange character, Mrs. Bennet did not like her.She is very clear.

There are no young people in the small town who like her, and she knows it very well. But don't care.

Mary thought she would die alone until she met Mr. Jenner Jr.

When he gave her his copy of Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, she fell for it.

"If any young men come to propose to Mary, or Kitty, or Lydia, let them be brought in."

Mr. Bennet's casual remark came true very quickly.

One morning at the end of June, when Elizabeth got up, she saw Mary reading a letter in the living room intently.

This is something that has happened frequently recently, and she didn't pay attention to it.

But then Mary's flushed face made her slightly puzzled.

Elizabeth approached quietly and asked curiously, "Whose letter is it, Mary?"

Mary was startled when she heard her sister's voice, and subconsciously covered the letter, and then a deeper red flooded her neck.

"Yes—" she paused, as if hesitating whether to say it, "Mr. Edward Jenner."

"Edward...well, Mr. Jenner?!" Elizabeth asked in surprise, "How is he doing?"

"He's been--he's been fine recently." Mary's voice was getting softer, but her face was getting redder and redder.

Elizabeth could not restrain her curiosity, and secretly glanced at the letter.

There are only a few words on the letter paper, and a picture next to it.

A gentleman stood under what looked to be a tree full of apples. The gentleman's expression and movements all indicated that it was Mr. Jenner Jr.

An apple fell and hit the gentleman on the head.

The gentleman smiled.

The inscription reads: You are the apple that fell on my head.

Elizabeth looked at it, and couldn't hold back a "poof" laugh: "Little Mr. Jenner, what a little Mr. Jenner."

Mary's face turned even redder amidst Elizabeth's laughter.

However, before Elizabeth asked about the development of their relationship in London, the housekeeper's wife said that two gentlemen had come to visit.

Mary stood up from the chair with a flushed face, fiddling with the letter helplessly, and Elizabeth couldn't help laughing.

It was Mr. Jenner and Mr. Jenner Jr. who entered.

Unlike usual, they put on their tuxedos very solemnly for the first time.Mr. Jenner also wore a collar flower and a top hat, looking very formal.

"Good morning, Miss Elizabeth," said Mr. Jenner.

"Good morning, when did you visit Longbourn?"

"Just yesterday."

"You came so early and didn't take a break, Mr. Jenner."

Mr. Jenner smiled and pointed to his son: "This gentleman is more eager."

Elizabeth looked around at Mr. Jenner and Mary for a while, and said with a smile: "My father is in the study, if you want to talk to him."
