Exorcist Servant: Demon Hunter
Chapter 18
Caleb slowed down as they approached the safe house.
They ran all the way here.Caleb's heart was beating wildly in his chest, and his muscles were burning with gray and violent energy. The way they ran scared a car of tourists sitting in the carriage to death.Even if he didn't address Starkweather's voicemail, agents should be able to track them down based on the traffic chaos he caused.
The safe house Melanie was referring to appeared to be a stately old mansion, with a side facing the street and a walled garden directly in front of the house. It has a double-height porch in line with the overall architectural style of the house, and an iron spiral staircase connects the upper and lower floors.A fountain sang quietly in the garden, and birds chirped in the leafy hedges.
The demonic miasma, mingled with the smell of dirty fur and stale blood, stretched from the sidewalk to the garden gate. They came too late.
Caleb walked through the unlocked gate into the garden. The fine oak door stood wide open before him.
Caleb went up the steps, not knowing what else to do.The wooden floorboards creaked under his feet as he walked across the porch and into the house.
Oncoming is the high ceiling of the foyer, which is designed to allow the sea breeze to enter the room and play a role in cooling and removing heat. The foyer leads to the dining room and the living room on either side, both long abandoned.Directly opposite him was a staircase leading to the second floor.
The stench of demons stuffed the air.Caleb wanted to throw up, but the hunger from Ash made him salivate.
He swallowed hard. "Melanie?" His voice disappeared into the heavy silence of the room.
A floorboard above his head creaked, and a moment later Melanie appeared on the steps of the stairs above him.
Caleb's sense of relief at seeing her alive poured into him like seawater pouring down a breach into a seawall. He yelled to Melanie, "Hurry up! We're going to get you out of here!"
"Come here," she called to Caleb, her voice trembling. "I'm going to show you something."
Has she killed the demon?
"No," the vampire inside him flinched, "it's right here." Caleb's teeth sharpened and his body shuddered at the hunger the ashes brought him.
No - stop.Damn, we can't scare Melanie!
Caleb hurried up the stairs and asked, "Are you all right?"
When he walked towards her step by step, she stepped back step by step. The flicker of fear in her eyes made him stop a few steps away from her."Melanie?" he asked.
There are two sliding doors on the second floor connected by the stairs, both of which are closed. As Caleb looked at the two doors, the one on the left slowly opened, and a man came out and stopped behind Melanie.
It was an elderly man with well-manicured gray hair and an expensive suit. The corners of his mouth slowly curved into a smile as his eyes locked on Caleb.
Hold.He knows this man.He couldn't remember what happened after he was near death and possessed that day.But he did remember the man standing in the shadows of the abandoned house.
"He is the food!" Hui was eager to move under his skin, trying to gain control of his body. But Caleb still hesitated in Hui's impatient state, even though he had already realized what Hui's words were referring to.
They found the demon.
"Melanie, get--get out of here!" Caleb yelled at Melanie as he and Hui fought desperately for control of the body.
"Do you understand seeing this, Melanie?" the demon asked her. "He has been possessed by evil. Caleb's spirit is gone."
She nodded, tears wet her cheeks. "You're right, Leyland. I should never have doubted your words."
"Get away from him!" Caleb yelled.God, how should he explain her to understand the current situation? "Melanie, run, he is that demon! He killed Ben!"
She shook her head. "You can't lie to me no matter how much you lie." Her voice trembled, and she slowly raised the gun she had been keeping at her side and pointed it at Caleb.
Facing Melanie's muzzle, Caleb's whole body froze, and the black muzzle pointed straight at him, locking him in place. No, none of this is true. It's just a nightmare! "Melanie, no. Don't do it. I'm still me, I swear."
She gripped the gun with both hands, tears running down her face, "No, you're not. You're just a monster to be killed."
She then put the bullet into his chest.A full clip of six rounds went into Caleb's body.
***
Hui had had enough of the current situation.
Every cell in their body can feel the sharp pain of being hit by six bullets, and this living body perceives everything very clearly. The bullet shattered the body's lungs, and the blood rushed to their throats, giving them a taste of blood.Their bones were broken, their skin was bruised, and the impact of the bullets knocked them down the stairs to sprawl on the floor below.Their hearts were beating irregularly, and the pain was excruciating, overshadowing the pain in other parts.
And yet, somehow, the betrayal of a human woman was more painful than all the physical pain combined.Caleb's shock and terror melted into a shrill, mournful howl in their heads.
so.enough.
The woman was crying: softly, with occasional sobs of grief, as if she regretted doing it.Maybe she's just mourning the old Caleb, the man she'd brought into that abandoned house. When Hui straightened up suddenly and supported her body with her knees, she screamed and fell back down, raising the gun in her hand again, but this time there was no bullet in the clip, only the crisp sound of pulling the trigger echoed.
The shattered ribs flew back into place piece by piece, providing room for both lungs to work normally again. The blood gushing out of the lungs is also absorbed back little by little. The holes in their hearts closed, and their heartbeats returned to normal at the same time.Fragments of bullets fell out of the holes in the shirts they were wearing. He coughed and spat the remaining shrapnel on the ground.
He stood up.The woman scrambled back quickly, her eyes wide open. But she is not a threat.
The demon stood in the hallway behind her, shocked.Maybe it didn't realize what kind of a hunter his enemy was; maybe it thought the frail human body couldn't approach it at all.Destroying this physical body might kill him, or at least force him to find the next body, so that it could buy time to escape.
It will no longer have unrealistic ideas. Its eyes turned yellow. "Fuck you!"
The bones and tendons that kept it humanoid snapped apart with such a loud snap that it let out a howl of pain. The flesh it had stolen was deforming: the mandible elongated to resemble a canine snout, the arms began to lengthen, the proportions of toes and feet began to change. The shoes it was wearing were ripped in two, and together with the rest of the clothing they were wearing were rags on the floor. The once-human nails were now claws, and the teeth had become a row of jagged fangs. The smell of demons on it has grown stronger. It's so tempting.
The human woman screamed again. She threw the empty gun in her hand at the werewolf. It growled and bared its fangs at her.Its moment of distraction could not have been better timed to strike.
Hui rushed towards it, his sharp teeth were already extremely sharp, just waiting for the thrill of tearing flesh. But at the last moment, the wolf-changer turned around and tore his shirt with one of his claws, opening a gash in his chest, bone deep.Hui retreated, and a burst of spiritual energy gushed out, repairing and closing the wound without leaving any scars. They looked at each other vigilantly, turning in a circle, looking for an opportunity to attack.
The battle is imminent.
***
At this moment, John burst open the front door and rushed in, gun and dagger at the ready.Sean followed suit.Outside, they heard a woman's scream resounding through the street. It was too late to lay out a more comprehensive plan. All they could do was to act quickly and hope that they were not too late.
What he saw were two wrestling and entangled bodies, like two cats fighting. They wrestled from the stairs to the first floor, and with them came the splinters of wood, which hit the first-floor floor like a torrential rain.
Ashes were pressed down when they rolled to the first floor. The werewolf straightened up, saliva and blood splashing from between his teeth.John didn't even think about it, and immediately dropped the dagger and raised the Glock pistol, shooting a whole clip of silver bullets into the wolf-changer's huge upper body.
The wolf-changer let out a howl of pain after being shot--Hui took the opportunity to throw it straight out, and the wolf-changer passed through the room and embedded itself in the wall on the other side. The massive impact left a deep crater in the wall. After a few seconds, Ash stood up and rushed towards it, faster than any human - or faster than those demons who seemed human but not human.
The psionic energy in the air filled the room like a storm, making it hard for John to breathe.Hui's entire eyes are as black as oil, and his hair seems to be blown by an invisible wind, twisting and twisting in the wind like Medusa.A dark mist evaporated from his body, the smell of ozone filled the air, and the air pressure in the room dropped.
The wolf-changer crawled out from the deep hole in the wall, roaring and rushed towards Ash.Its claws tore through the gray flesh, and blood splattered everywhere. But each wound healed faster.John cursed wildly, trying to find a good angle to fire, but they were too close.
"Shit!" Sean yelled, raising his gun.
"Don't shoot! You'll be shot!" John's voice drowned out the lycanthropist's angry howls.
"Damn it, John, it's not human! Caleb's gone!"
"No." He risked distracting himself from the fight for a moment, grabbing Sean's arm and forcing him to put the gun down. "Trust me, Sean."
Sean's eyes widened. He grabbed John and roughly pushed him aside, and the next second Ash flew past where they had just stood. The vampire hit a mirror and slid to the ground along with numerous shards of glass, and fell on the spot without moving.
John's heart skipped a beat.He tried to turn around and shoot the werewolf - but the wolf was moving so fast that it was on top of him in a split second, knocking him flying with the force.John knocked over a chair and smashed it into a sideboard. His gun fell to the ground and slid far away.
John blinked, trying to get his dazed mind back to work. But the werewolf was ready to tear him to shreds, and it crushed John, spraying his fetid breath in his face.He tried to get up, even just to move, but he was so exhausted that he was on the verge of losing consciousness. He can't do anything, he can only watch death approaching step by step——
"Let - let - him go." Suddenly a low growl sounded like thunder.
