Cross Rose Requiem

Chapter 5: Snowing

Leaving the earl's castle, when Duke Victor returned to the manor, he happened to see Ram throwing a rag at his 20-year-old oil painting. The rag smashed squarely on the face of the person on the oil painting.

When the unlucky Ram saw the duke with a gloomy face, he couldn't help shivering. He hastily picked up the rag and lied, "I'm sorry, great duke. I didn't hold the rag steady for a while, so I accidentally dropped it on the oil painting."

Unconvincing rhetoric.

The bone-winged devil smiled strangely, expecting the owner of the manor to punish the lying thief.

Ram was apprehensive and angry.A full day's work had exhausted him.Up to now, he has not even had a cup of hot milk.He was like a mouse trapped in this manor, unable to escape.

Duke Victor stepped up to the three-way junction of the stairs with the word "person" upside down. Under the huge portrait, he raised his hand and slapped Ram.

Ram's face was knocked to one side.A fiery red glow appeared on his face.

The Duke told the coachman: "Anthony, lock him up in the basement. Starting tomorrow, if he dares to make a mistake again, all his food will be deducted."

The faithful coachman replied: "Yes, duke."

As a result, Ram was once again locked in the fate of the basement.

Flapping its bone wings, the demon smiled strangely, and said in Ram's ear: "Poor Ram, the deal between us can be carried out at any time."

Seeing the coachman dragging him away, Ram almost agreed. It wasn't until Anthony locked him back in the basement and squatted in a dark corner with his legs crossed that Ram said, "I refuse the deal."

"If you don't trade, you can't escape this manor."

In the darkness, Ram's green pupils seemed to glow.He said: "I will never sell my soul. If, I can't escape this damn cage, but I can live in this luxurious manor."

After speaking, Ram grinned, showing his white teeth.

Pointing at Ram with a dead branch-like finger, the demon said, "You are a thief and a slave."

Ram touched a stone and threw it on the devil's face: "In the future, I will also become a great person!"

The demon laughed "hahahaha", as if mocking Ram.It hurt Ram's ears. The devil gave him a gentlemanly salute: "Good luck." After saying that, he gradually disappeared.

Poor Ram, another night of hunger.

The next day, before he woke up, the coachman roughly dragged him out of the basement, handed him a rag and a bucket, and warned him: "If you don't finish your work today, you won't even Don't even try to get a piece of it. You should be grateful to the Duke for keeping you in the manor, otherwise, you will be a thief in prison and killed by rats."

Ram said timidly: "Yes, Mr. Anthony, I will never disobey the Duke of Montrose again."

Anthony put his finger on his head and said, "Mark your words!"

After speaking, he left to tidy up the garden.

Holding the wipe, Ram began to repeat yesterday's work.Unfortunately, hunger made his nose extremely sensitive.A scent wafting from a door lures his nose.Stuffing the rag into his pocket and smelling it, Ram quietly walked through the corridor of the west building on the first floor to a half-open door.He poked his head inside and saw one of the triplet maids cooking an elaborate breakfast inside.

"Gululu" Ram's stomach let out a cry of hunger.Swallowing his saliva and looking at the maid's back, he really couldn't tell the triplets apart. If it was the grumpy Katie inside, she would definitely grab his hair and hold on.

How can I get this delicious food?

When Ram was calculating, someone silently patted him on the shoulder from behind, and Ram was shocked. He turned around and said, "Butler Anderson!"

In the kitchen, the maid found two people at the door.

The kind old housekeeper smiled and said to Emily, "Emily, give Ram two breads and a glass of milk."

It turned out that inside was Emily, the kind maid.Ram blushed slightly, and he thanked the kind butler: "Thank you, Butler Anderson."

Then, the two entered the kitchen.Emily gave Ram two buns and a glass of milk. And poured a cup of tea for Mr. Butler. The maid smiled and said, "I wish you a pleasant meal." Then she continued to prepare breakfast for the Duke who was about to wake up.

Ram thanks. He grabbed the bread and devoured it.

Butler Anderson said: "At Montrose Manor, as long as you work hard, you can get paid accordingly."

Ram asked curiously: "Butler Anderson, why didn't the Duke send me to prison?"

Emily smiled and said, "Because the Duke is a kind person."

Butler Anderson smiled "hehe": "Could it be that Ram would rather stay in prison?"

Ram swallowed his last morsel and said, "No." Given the choice between Montrose Manor and London Prison, he preferred the former.

However, he wanted to be free more.

The old butler said calmly: "Stay with the Duke, and you will dig out unexpected treasures."

Ram was puzzled: "Treasure?" Is it the treasure in the manor?

Emily put the prepared breakfast on the tray, which she picked up and left the kitchen to go upstairs. In the kitchen, only the old butler and the thief who was caught were left.

The old butler said: "It needs Ram to dig."

Ram didn't understand.

The old butler continued to tell Ram about the situation in the manor. When he learned that the servants in the manor were the Emily triplets, the coachman Anthony, and the old housekeeper Anderson, Ram asked why there were so few servants in the manor.

The old butler replied: Because the Duke doesn't like excitement.

but--

If the duke doesn't like excitement, why does he have a lavish banquet every month?

The old butler said: Perhaps, this banquet will soon be unnecessary.

Ram was even more confused.

Before the old butler left, Ram asked one last question. He asked, "Butler Anderson, am I a slave in the manor?"

The old butler replied, "Montrose Manor doesn't need slaves."

Therefore, he is not a slave in the manor.Like Emily and the others, they are servants.

After getting the answer, Ram couldn't help but think of what happened in the manor these days.

Also a servant, why is he always starved?

The old housekeeper smiled and left the kitchen.

All day long, Ram was full of doubts. There seems to be a huge secret in this manor.Standing in the center of the wide hall, Ram looked at the young and noble man in the oil painting.Although this well-known nobleman is 42 years old, he looks like a great nobleman in his 30s.He is a gentleman, full of luxury, and countless possessions. He is the object of the imagination of all London women.Every month at the banquet, countless ladies and ladies flock here just to see him.

While Ram was staring at the oil painting in a daze, a surprised voice came: "It's snowing."

Ram turned and looked out the large window on the first floor.

Outside, there are snowflakes falling. In London in 1890, it finally snowed on this day.

I don't know what happened to that coward Bernie? Will the streets freeze to death?Or being pushed down the dirty Thames?

On the third floor of the manor, in the room of Duke Victor Montrose.

Under the window, there is a cup of hot tea in front of the table of the duke who sits on a chair and reads the newspaper.Outside the window, there is snow falling. The Duke looked up out the window.

There was no wind, only snow falling in large flakes. After a while, the whole manor turned silvery white.

The devil squatted on Duke Victor's table, and said to the nobleman in front of him: "Dear Duke of Montrose, 17 years ago, Dorothy died on the first snowy day."

Unfortunately, the Duke can neither hear nor see it.

"Good luck."

After finishing speaking, the demon spread its bone wings and flew out through the wall.

The first snow day was lucky for Ram.Because, today he finally had lunch and dinner. But I also discovered that as long as I obey the owner of the manor, I won't be punished.

As such...

Lowering his head, Ram curled up a triumphant smile.

In retaliation, he must obey the duke well, and then—— to light up the treasures of his duke's mansion!

The first snow, it is several days.In the past few days, the honest Ram has attracted the attention of the irascible Katie.

Yes, she doesn't trust Ram.Even if he is more honest than the horse raised by Mr. Anthony these days, Katie thinks that Ram, a thief who is good at lying, is not worthy of trust.

After several days of staring, Katie tried to find his flaws.Unfortunately, she couldn't find any trace of the thief's plot.

And Ram, after a few days, finally distinguished the triplet maids.Thought, next time, stay away from grumpy Katie.Ram wiped the glass window, and through the window, he saw the carriage entering the manor. When the carriage stopped at the gate of the manor, Anthony went out, and then a gentleman came down, and the gentleman said something. Then Anthony lifted a box from the carriage.

Then, the two walked in.

After the gentleman entered the door, he untied his scarf, and Butler Anderson took it and said, "Sir Salter, the Duke is in the game hall."

Sir Salter thanked: "Thank you, Steward Anderson." Then he saw Ram.When he saw Ram's green eyes, he paused, then headed towards the game hall.

Looking at Ram who had been stepped on after cleaning, Ram wanted to pour out the water in the bucket to wash it away.Fortunately, reason stopped him.He asked the old butler, "Butler Anderson, is that noble gentleman a friend of the Duke?"

The old butler smiled and nodded: "Yes, Sir Salter is a businessman who was conferred the title of baron. He is here today to deliver tea from the East to prepare for the upcoming banquet."

banquet?

Ram's green eyes lit up.

He had already heard about Montrose's lavish banquets from Bernie.I didn't expect to be there in person.

He decided that if he could escape from here in the future, he would definitely show Bernie that he had attended the banquet at the Duke's mansion.Make Bernie envious and jealous.
