Goodbye Midsummer 2

Chapter 2 The Return

In the dream, that person came towards him from a beam of white light.

Against the light, he couldn't see his face clearly, but he knew in his heart that it was the love of his life.

He went forward and reached out to caress the man's face, tenderly and patiently. Then gently, bowed her head and kissed him.

The man didn't struggle, accepted his kiss calmly, and slowly put his hands on his shoulders.

He heard himself panting slightly, and asked in a hoarse voice:

"Shen Yi, can I like you?"

Then, woke up.

As soon as he opened his eyes, he was blinded by the sunlight coming in from the car window. He subconsciously raised his left hand to block the sun, and turned his face sideways involuntarily.

"Are you awake?" A lazy male voice sounded from his right.

After slowly getting used to the sunlight, his eyesight gradually recovered. As soon as he looked up, he saw Andre sitting on his right with blond hair, looking at him with interest with his head tilted.

"Just now, you were dreaming." Andre smiled at him, speaking his not so proficient Chinese.

"Really." He replied lightly, thinking of the person in his dream just now, his heart still beat a little faster.

"You're calling, a name." The 20-year-old Andre moved closer to him, so close that Qin Yang could see the freckles on his face.

"You are calling, shenyi." Andre, who is not very fluent in Chinese, parroted the name, but the pronunciation was not very accurate.

Qin Yang responded with some embarrassment: "Oh."

He turned his head to look at the scenery outside the car window.

The bus was driving in the secluded mountains, the dirt road stretched ahead, the grass on the side of the road was faint, and the mountains in the distance were gentle and undulating, just like the scenery in a summer postcard. The speed of the car was not fast, and the trees along the road receded gradually. Occasionally, some small wild animals could be glimpsed in the gaps in the woods, but when they looked closely, they had long since disappeared.

"Back to the motherland, are you in a good mood? Not good?" Andre's question caught up.

He looked away from the window and sighed: "Nothing special."

There was a noise from the driver's seat, and after a while, an old professor with a big belly stood up, picked up the small speaker on the car and began to speak in fluent English.

Most of the young people with European and American faces on the bus were discussing enthusiastically while looking at the scenery outside the window. They had blond hair, brown hair, red hair, blue eyes, green eyes and gray pupils; a few Asian faces were also scattered on the bus. Compared with their excited American classmates, they looked much calmer.

The gray-haired old professor reiterated the original intention and precautions of this social survey with a small speaker, and reminded the students not to walk casually in the survey site, pay attention to being polite to the locals, etc., which have been emphasized many times before departure information, so the students present did not listen very carefully.

Only when the car turned a corner and the first Chinese village appeared in front of it, the European and American faces on the car exclaimed.

"WOW, CHINA!"

Facing his classmates who were keen to make a fuss, Qin Yang couldn't help but smile.

It seems that when they got off the plane, what they saw was not China.

Qin Yang is a sophomore in the United States this year.

In March, he saw on the school bulletin board that Project Horizon, a hands-on survey run by the sociology department, was recruiting participants. The destination is China, and the main purpose is to let American students go deep into the lives of local residents and experience the difference between the rapidly developing Chinese cities and rural life.To this end, they selected two completely different locations in China for the participants to experience together: a remote rural area and a modern city where the economy has taken off.

This is a voluntary social practice survey activity, no extra credits, and no direct benefit to further studies. So the number of participants is not too many.

Qin Yang had no interest in such activities. The reason why he stared at the bulletin board for so long was because he saw the name of that city.

After he left three years ago, he never returned to the city.

He remembered that event, but did not take any further action.

Until April, the professors in the department approached him and said that Professor Smith of the Department of Sociology hoped that he could participate in "Project Horizon" as an assistant. This activity requires several authentic Chinese to communicate with local residents.

Qin Yang hesitated for a moment and agreed.

At this time, he was sitting in a rented bus with other students from the same school who participated in the "Project Horizon" and went to a remote Chinese mountain village to experience another side of China.

Andre sitting next to him is an American boy who knows a little Chinese. For some reason, he entangled Qin Yang as soon as they met.No matter on the plane or in the bus, he insisted on sitting next to him. Although he was not fluent in Chinese, he insisted on talking to Qin Yang in Chinese.Sometimes I asked him about his life in China, and sometimes he talked about life in the United States.

Qin Yang was still indifferent, sometimes answering and sometimes not answering, the other party didn't seem to care, and still smiled cheerfully at him.

Ever since the plane landed, Qin Yang felt that a string in his heart suddenly became tense.

Many emotions and memories that he thought he had forgotten gradually revived in his body.

When the bus was passing through the countryside, his eyes would occasionally catch some Chinese notice boards standing in the fields, and those familiar characters seemed to awaken some emotion in him, which made his heart restless.

Just now, he dreamed of Shen Yi again.

This is the first time in half a year.

He turned his head and looked at the constantly receding scenery outside the window, the greenery spread out in his eyes, boundless.

He didn't tell Shen Yi that he had already returned to China.

He doesn't have the courage.

Once informed, the other party will definitely be overjoyed, and will inevitably face the scene of reunion after a long absence. But he wasn't confident enough to face that person as if nothing had happened.

He always had a premonition: Shen Yi could easily destroy all the lines of defense he had built in the past three years with just a smile.

It has always been like this, whether in reality or in dreams.

In the slight bump of the bus, he took out his mobile phone. There is a message on the screen: He has a new email.

From Shen Yi.

He opened it, and there were a few simple greetings inside.

Summer is here again, how are you doing in America?

The city is still so hot, I feel like I'm living in a big steamer, and I don't know when I will be steamed.

Because it was so hot, when I went out the other day, I put on that hat you gave me—you sent me a birthday present. As a result, I got a round of "really stinking" bombardment from the female students in the class.

Thanks, I love that hat.

Good luck.

Shen Yi.

Miss you.

His fingertips rested on the word "Shen Yi" and rubbed lightly, as if he could touch the body temperature of the writer through the screen.

"Missing you" - in the last few correspondences, Shen Yi would suddenly add these two words at the end.

When Qin Yang saw it for the first time, his heart almost skipped a beat.

It is always a light everyday tone, talking about trivial things unhurriedly. But at the last turn, it suddenly became intimate and private.

"Missing you" - do you miss me, Shen Yi?

When he saw it for the first time, Qin Yang almost couldn't restrain his urge to make a phone call.

But in the end it didn't.He was afraid that he couldn't help but say something, which would make the already awkward relationship between the two of them even more embarrassing and complicated.

He put down the phone and closed his eyes again.

In the darkness, the man's face slowly emerged, from blurry to clear.

In his mind, he drew the profile of the person, the corners of the eyes, the nose, and the lips over and over again. As devout as a saint.

Shen Yi, do you miss me?

I miss you.

Want it so so much.
