Sherlock Holmes at Hogwarts
#24 - Hermione stimulated by Sherlock
Seeing Sherlock and Harry, Ron and Thomas immediately stood up and waved at them enthusiastically.
"Sherlock, Harry, over here!"
When the two approached, Ron said triumphantly, "I saved you guys seats!"
"Thanks," Harry thanked Ron, and reminded him, "It would be great if you could be a little quieter."
Because of Ron's flamboyance, coupled with the name Harry, Sherlock and Harry became the center of attention in the hall at that moment.
"It's over there, look quickly."
"Where, where?"
"Over there! Next to the tall, hook-nosed boy."
"You mean the one wearing glasses?"
"Yeah, did you see his face?"
"Did you see the scar on his forehead?"
As Sherlock and Harry walked through the hall towards Ron, these whispers never stopped.
This made Harry extremely uncomfortable.
Ron also noticed the situation and touched his nose sheepishly, "Sorry."
It was all his fault for speaking too loudly.
Breakfast under normal circumstances was definitely not as lavish as the Welcoming Feast, but it was definitely not bad, and most importantly—there was plenty of it.
This was definitely a good thing for foodies like Ron and Harry, who hadn't been able to eat their fill at home.
As for Sherlock, he was multitasking, eating while focusing his attention on the Gryffindor first-year's schedule.
Monday morning: History of Magic; afternoon: Herbology
Tuesday morning: Herbology; afternoon: Charms, Transfiguration
Wednesday morning: Defense Against the Dark Arts; afternoon: Herbology; evening: Astronomy
Thursday morning: Transfiguration; afternoon: Charms
Friday morning: Potions (double period); afternoon: free
There was also a note: Once flying lessons started, they would be added after Charms on Thursday afternoons.
It could be seen that the first year's curriculum was generally quite tight—which was understandable, after all, it was necessary to reshape the worldview of the young wizards who had just entered the magical world.
After breakfast, the group hurried to the classrooms.
For Sherlock, the first week at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was both fulfilling and interesting.
Each course had different characteristics.
History of Magic was the only course taught by a ghost.
As the saying goes, a ghost's lecture is full of nonsense.
The course was purely theoretical, leaning towards rote memorization.
In addition, Professor Binns recited the textbook in a monotonous voice peculiar to ghosts, which made the course even more dull and boring.
Almost all the students were just drowsily jotting down names and dates.
Only two people were exceptions.
One was Hermione, who had already shown the characteristics of a top student in the first class.
Listening attentively, taking notes seriously, actively answering questions... well, not the last one, because Professor Binns didn't ask any questions.
The other was Sherlock.
He was full of interest in the magical world.
He had already read all the textbooks, and listening to this ghost professor's class was equivalent to opening the audio book function for people who didn't want to read.
But when a student took the initiative to ask questions, Professor Binns would still interact with you.
Sherlock was precisely that person.
This made him the most conspicuous one among the sleepy little lions.
Even Hermione, who was also listening attentively, couldn't help but cast curious glances at him frequently.
This person... is like me!
Compared to History of Magic, Herbology was much more interesting.
The three-times-a-week course schedule was enough to show that it was a basic course.
The professor of this course, Pomona Sprout, was a short, stout witch, and also the head of Hufflepuff House.
The learning location was the greenhouse behind the castle rather than indoors.
As for the content, it was to educate the new students on how to cultivate these strange plants and fungi, and to understand their uses.
This time, in addition to Sherlock, another student actively asked questions: Hermione.
Perhaps stimulated by Sherlock's performance in the History of Magic class in the morning, Hermione even stayed around Sprout after class.
Unfortunately, she had to teach other people, so these questions could only be left to be answered tomorrow.
The next morning, Hermione was still a good student who actively asked questions.
Her continuous excellent performance in the two classes even earned Gryffindor five points, winning applause.
But Sherlock was not as active as yesterday.
He simply completed Sprout's tasks step by step, without asking a single question.
Because Sherlock felt that it was no longer necessary.
Having read the textbook in advance, coupled with the inquiries in the first class, was enough for him to have his own unique understanding of this course.
That was enough.
Next, Sherlock treated every course with the same routine.
Ask questions in the first class, grasp the direction and overall situation of the course, and then filter.
For those courses that were not very useful to him, he only needed to ensure that he could pass the exam.
Then free up his energy to put on those courses that were more useful to him, and those that he was more interested in.
Soon, such a course came.
Charms.
"Hermione Granger!"
"Sherlock Holmes!"
"..."
"Harry Potter—Ah!"
The professor teaching Charms was Filius Flitwick, who was also the head of Ravenclaw House.
Professor Flitwick was of goblin descent, so he was extraordinarily small. Sherlock estimated that he was less than 4 feet tall, or just over one meter.
He had to stand on a stack of books to reach the lectern when teaching.
The first class was to call the roll as usual. It was okay when he called other people's names, but when he called the name Harry Potter, he screamed excitedly and fell to the ground.
This made Sherlock once again realize the lethality of the name Harry Potter in the magical world—even figures at the level of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry's headmaster could not avoid it.
At the same time, it once again proved that his choice to complete the pairing and assistance to Harry before the start of school was an incredibly correct one.
Before school started, Malfoy and his two Slytherin cronies took the initiative to come to his door.
After the start of school, these teachers and students who were paying attention to Harry naturally could not escape Sherlock's eyes, greatly facilitating his understanding of the magical world.
At the same time, Sherlock unexpectedly discovered that Harry had the potential to become an assistant.
This made him gradually abandon the idea of treating Harry as a tool person and begin to regard him as a friend he could make.
Of course, this is a story for later, so let's not dwell on it for now.
Professor Flitwick had a strong ability to self-regulate. It didn't take long for him to recover and start teaching.
The content of the first class was similar to other courses, still a general overview of the course.
At the same time, he also taught a basic charm—the mending charm.
It was the charm that Sherlock had used on Harry's glasses on the Hogwarts Express.
