On the Seven Towers

Chapter 8: Violent Heart

Xiao Chen held Zhou He.

He felt like he held the sun.

His right hand tightly clasped Zhou He's ankle, immersed in the scorching light. The white light was like a needle, piercing every pore on his arm sharply and hotly, causing him to raise his head and scream in pain. The white light was like a torch, burning on his face, as if boiling water flowed from his eyes, his nose, into his head.

Xiao Chen was unable to pull Zhou He down a bit, and only felt that he seemed to be rising higher and higher in his daze, like a kite without thoughts, facing the sun and dancing with the wind.

He felt that this vast white light connected himself, Zhou He, and some great and lofty power. His soul seemed to be able to only look up at this moment, and could only humbly pay attention from a distance. All disrespect, unwillingness, and disdain were almost swept away, and it seemed that only respectful prostration was left.

The power was high above, without saying a word, but it clearly expressed a will: accept, obey, inherit, grow, and be reborn! This will did not come from any individual or soul, but from the pure power itself.

Zhou He surrendered. Xiao Chen could not see it, but he knew that he could feel that Zhou He was wrapped in that power. Her will seemed to have given up resistance and merged with that power.

She had obeyed. Do you obey?

Oh, obey? What a familiar word. In the dim light, Xiao Chen felt that his father in his memory was standing in front of him, scolding him in a stern tone:

"I am your father, I tell you to do something, just obey it!"

"You don't understand now, but you will understand in the future. Adults naturally have their own reasons for doing things!"

"Obey my arrangements and do this job well. Many people want to come but can't. Don't be ungrateful!"

"Society is like this. If you don't adapt to it, it will make you feel uncomfortable! Power is like this. If you don't obey it, it will show you your color!"

"All this is for your own good!"

"But... why? Why should I, Xiao Chen, obey you? Why should I listen to you? In the past... I surrendered and regretted it..., so this time..." He let out a faint roar from his soul: "I don't obey, get out!"

He didn't know how long he had silently endured the pain and how long he struggled, until the white light suddenly burst out, the huge impact gave him relief, the kite broke the line, he flew out, and then he knew nothing.

It seemed like a long time before Xiao Chen found himself again. He was dragged and moved. There was no more heat around him, only the coldness of the ground. He struggled to open his eyes and saw Luo Ling's face and the black hair hanging on both sides of her pretty face. She grabbed the collar of his clothes with both hands, frowning, her big eyes occasionally glancing into the distance, and pulled him back with force.

Just as Xiao Chen was about to speak, he heard a violent roar from not far away, followed by a loud sound of rocks hitting each other. He was startled and saw a piece of rubble brushing past the end of his hair, hitting the wall on one side heavily, and scattering in all directions. Two of them hit Xiao Chen's legs, causing him to grit his teeth in pain. Another piece scratched a bloody mark on Luo Ling's white arm. Luo Ling screamed in pain, but quickly suppressed the sound.

Roar! Crash! Roar! Crash! The crazy sound hit the eardrums and atria of the two people like a heavy hammer. Not far away, it seemed that there were several elephants, no, several dinosaurs going crazy. However, Xiao Chen could not see it. All he could see was the dim ceiling of the hall and Luo Ling's cheek. He could not use any strength and could only let Luo Ling drag him step by step. And she tried her best and finally pulled Xiao Chen behind the warrior statue at the fastest speed. Then she slumped on the ground and gasped.

Xiao Chen turned his head and the first thing he saw was her tightly pursed lips. She looked a little embarrassed. The sweat on her forehead was stained with dust, stuck to her bangs, and melted the blood on the bandage. Her eyes seemed to pass through the statue and jumped nervously in the direction of the sound. She could not see the scene outside the statue, but he saw fear in her eyes.

She was afraid too. For some reason, this was Xiao Chen's only thought at this time.

Xiao Chen felt as if his whole body was falling apart, and he had to stretch out a hand. Luo Ling came back to her senses, supported his back with one hand, held his arm with the other, and helped him lean against the base of the statue. Xiao Chen ignored the pain in his body, and carefully poked half of his head out from behind the stone statue, secretly looking out.

Amid the flying sand and rocks, there was a figure emitting white light. She jumped and moved at the speed of a leopard, and a casual punch could leave a deep pit on the stone wall, and a casual grab could leave deep claw marks on the pillar.

Xiao Chen was sweating coldly, what kind of monster is this!

However, when the monster turned around, Xiao Chen saw her face clearly. It was Zhou He! Her appearance was almost the same as before, the only difference was that her pretty little face was full of madness and pain. She was grinning, and her veins were bulging, like a wounded beast roaring in a trap! It seemed that only the most violent destruction could alleviate this pain a little.

Xiao Chen was stunned for a long time before he managed to utter, "Is this a monster possessing me?" He felt his whole body and found that he had not changed, so he breathed a sigh of relief.

"After the white light burst out, she...she suddenly became like this. No matter how I called her, she didn't respond. She didn't care about anything and just went crazy. But she didn't seem to attack us, so I was able to drag you back." Luo Ling said in a very soft voice.

"Thanks to you!" Xiao Chen nodded gratefully at Luo Ling, thinking that this girl was really brave. Braving the flying stones, snatching people from a superhero martial arts madman, this is definitely not something that ordinary people can do. If it were his roommate Li Jia, the coward, he might just hide in the corner and pee his pants.

"What do you think Zhou He is going to do?" Luo Ling suddenly stood up and said.

After Zhou He vented on the spot, she suddenly noticed the armored warrior stuck in the crack of the wall. She roared at the tin can several times, like a lioness demonstrating to the enemy.

Maybe the armored warrior's lack of reaction angered her. She picked up a piece of gravel on the ground and threw it at the warrior. The fist-sized stone was wrapped in a layer of white light, making a sharp whistle, and hit the armored warrior's chest with a loud bang. The warrior was hit by a cannonball and was instantly smashed out.

"Human cannon..." Xiao Chen murmured.

Soon, another armored warrior rushed over and squeezed into the crevice, and was immediately killed in the same way. Zhou He seemed to feel that this was not enough. After knocking away three or four warriors in succession, she jumped out through the crevice, and the sound of "ping ping pong" of fighting suddenly came from outside.

"Damn! Dangerous!" Xiao Chen stood up and wanted to walk towards the crevice, but was stopped by Luo Ling. She shook her head and said, "I know you are worried about Zhou He, and so am I, but we can't go out now. Zhou He is no longer the little girl you can protect. Those tin cans are too slow and will not be her opponents. If we are hit, we may die."

"But..."

"At least wait until the noise is quiet. You really can't help her now!"

Xiao Chen saw Luo Ling's firm eyes and knew that she was talking about a safe strategy, so he sat down again unwillingly. For a while, there was no other sound in the hall, only the sound of metal and rock hitting.

After a series of continuous blows and a loud crash, it suddenly became quiet outside.

"Thirty-two." Luo Ling said.

"What?"

"I mean the huge crash, which should be the sound of the tin cans being thrown by her and hitting the wall. From the time she rushed out to the final blow, there were a total of thirty-two times, which is close to the number of tin cans chasing us. It seems that she has cleared the way."

"You are so calm." Xiao Chen said in surprise.

"You should understand the meaning of calmness better than me. You have been doing well before." Luo Ling smiled gently, which made Xiao Chen feel some warmth in his heart. He scratched his head and smiled bitterly, "The mess in this damn place makes me a little confused now. Alas... Let's think about how to save Zhou He. What do you think of her now?"

Luo Ling shook her head and said, "When everything happened, you were closer to her. What did you find?"

"That white light looked very evil. So I wanted to grab Zhou He's legs just now to drag her out." Xiao Chen circled around the statue, observing and pointing to a position in front of the statue, "When the time cocoon was at this position, I felt there was danger, so I instinctively grabbed her. At that time, the white light also shone on me, as if there was a force forcing me to surrender. But I didn't do it, and I just took the pressure and pushed forward. But Zhou He seemed to be suppressed by 'that'. No, it shouldn't be suppressed, it's more like a combination."

"White light with will? Is it a kind of energy? Is it a set 'program'? Or his 'ghost'?" Luo Ling muttered to herself as she looked at the tall Berserker statue. She glanced at the crack in the stone leading to the outside and asked Xiao Chen, "Do you think she is still Zhou He?"

"I don't know, I really don't know. I can't even be sure if I have changed. What happened today seems to have happened in a dream, and I still feel like I am sleepwalking." Xiao Chen walked back and forth for two steps and said, "We must figure this out, we can't just ignore her!"

"I have a question." Luo Ling looked at Xiao Chen, "What made you rush out so resolutely in that situation?"

"Resolute? I don't think so." Xiao Chen smiled, "I just like to make myself have no chance to regret it."

"Not no regrets, but no chance?" Luo Ling nodded slowly. Xiao Chen saw her right hand covering her left arm, and then he remembered that there was a bloody mark on her arm. He rummaged through his bag, trying to find something to bandage her, but was stopped by Luo Ling, "It's just a minor injury, don't worry about it, get down to business! We must find a way before she runs away."

"There is only one way." Xiao Chen stretched out a finger, "Try to communicate with her!"
