Nightmare Apostle

Chapter 2: Invitation

The address was unfamiliar. Yang Xiao had never even heard of this place. With doubt, he opened the box, and two leather bags, one large and one small, lay quietly inside.

When he opened the larger pocket, a small booklet similar to a memorial fell out, which immediately attracted Yang Xiao's attention.

On the cover of the booklet was an old mansion door painted dark red. There were white lanterns hanging on the left and right of the mansion door. The hazy words "bury" on the lanterns revealed an indescribable strange feeling, as if pushing open this door would lead to another world.

When he opened the booklet, there were several paragraphs written with a fine brush in classical Chinese. However, Yang Xiao's Chinese language skills were not bad. He understood the general idea by half reading and half guessing. It turned out to be an invitation.

The host of the invitation was named Feng. The family was going to hold a blessing ceremony and invited the person who received the invitation to go. The specific event was not mentioned, but it was promised that there would be another reward after the event was completed.

Turning another page, a card the size of a bookmark fell out, with a human figure drawn on it with rough strokes.

Yang Xiao knew that this should be a character card representing the player's identity in the game, but this one was just a prototype, and it would definitely need to be redrawn and refined before it was officially released.

The card felt a little strange when I got it. It was not the usual hard paper, but more like some kind of processed leather, with a certain toughness. There was also a strange triangle-shaped pattern on the upper right corner of the back of the card.

On the last page of the invitation, six human figures were drawn abruptly in the blank space. The figures were as rough as the character cards, and it was impossible to distinguish between men and women. Yang Xiao could probably guess that this implied that in addition to the person who received the invitation, there were another six players in the entire script-killing game, which meant that this was a 7-person copy.

"Huh?"

After reaching his hand into the larger pocket with great expectation, Yang Xiao was surprised to find that the pocket was empty.

What's going on? Did the other party only send this little thing?

Yang Xiao was a little unhappy. In the box, there was only a character card and an invitation with vague words, not even the most basic story outline and character introduction album, and the other party didn't say hello before sending it. This was a bit too disrespectful.

Judging from the exquisite composition of the box and the production of the invitation, the other party does not seem to be a small workshop. This may be a good opportunity for cooperation, but Yang Xiao likes to cooperate with people who are sincere. This is not about money.

There was a small envelope left in the box, only half the size of a palm. Yang Xiao thought about it and took it up. The next second after opening the envelope, Yang Xiao was shocked.

There was a stack of money folded in half inside.

Red!

Yang Xiao took out the money tremblingly, took a breath, counted it carefully, and it was exactly three thousand yuan.

Taking a deep breath and calming down for a moment, Yang Xiao lowered his head and counted it again, and took a breath again. Yes, it was really three thousand yuan.

Three thousand yuan, three thousand yuan!

Holding the money, Yang Xiao's eyes became gentle when he looked at the script box. What kind of fairy drama club is this? It is too sincere. They paid money without saying a word. Who can resist this?

At this moment, his mind was opened, and countless novel and interesting ideas flowed into Yang Xiao's brain like a torrent. It is no exaggeration to say that within a few seconds, he had conceived at least 3 scenes and 7 story lines for this script.

What's the problem with not having a story outline and basic character settings? I can just write one and it's done. If the boss is not satisfied with the box, I can redraw it. In this regard, Yang Xiao has always been known as the conscience of the industry and has a good reputation.

This money solved his urgent needs, and his rent and living expenses for next month were settled.

In the end, in addition to the boss's sincerity and respect, the remaining cards in the envelope were a few cards. These cards were different from the previous role cards. They were made with exquisite workmanship and tied into a stack with fine hemp rope. Only the top one could be seen, and there was a bell tied to the fine hemp rope.

Yang Xiao noticed the knot on the fine hemp rope. There was red on the knot. When he touched it with his hand, it turned out to be cinnabar powder, and the bell was sealed with wax.

This script has some tricks. This detail design surprised Yang Xiao a little. Cinnabar wards off evil spirits, while wax seal bells are said to suppress ghosts. What's more amazing is the way the knot is tied. If I'm not mistaken, it's a funeral knot used to tie coffins.

The exquisite design helps players to quickly get into the role and integrate into the plot. This script is pretty good in this regard.

After untying the rope, the first card shows an ancient old street with a dim background. The whole street is empty. Not far away is a big house with a familiar door, the same as the one on the cover of the invitation. It should be the main family Feng family mentioned in the invitation.

The second card shows a few scattered houses, the background is darker than the first card, and in the dark yard in front of the houses, a full moon is suspended.

The moon can't fall into the yard. Yang Xiao guessed that if this doesn't represent a certain image, then there is water in the yard, a pond or a small lake, and this full moon is the reflection of the moon in the sky.

Compared to the full moon, Yang Xiao was more curious about the houses. The houses were quite ancient, and against this background, they presented a strange gray-white texture. What was even more creepy was that there were two big red lanterns hanging outside each door. The red lanterns contrasted sharply with the silent and gloomy atmosphere, like two blood-red eyes, staring at him through the card in another world.

Unconsciously, Yang Xiao was surprised by his rich imagination. With anticipation, he turned over the last card.

Darkness, darkness, this is an almost pure black card. Yang Xiao was a little surprised. Even with his imagination, he couldn't judge what the scriptwriter wanted to express.

Was it a blank? Or was it just a clumsy gimmick? Yang Xiao felt that it was neither. This black card must represent some special meaning.

Staring at this card, Yang Xiao slowly calmed down. Little by little, he seemed to see something. The black on this card was a little special. It was a layered black. To be precise, it was more turbid, and there was something hidden in the shadow behind the turbidity.

"Bang!"

Yang Xiao shuddered. The sudden sound instantly interrupted his thoughts. He followed the sound to the bathroom and opened the door. The shampoo that was originally placed on the shelf fell to the ground for some reason.

Yang Xiao came to his senses and felt hungry. It was time to eat. He put on his coat, took his umbrella and walked out. He had been eating instant noodles for several days recently. He wanted to improve it tonight.

The lights were not turned off. If they were, the landlord would know that he was at home. He did not open the door just now to avoid her.

Arriving at a small restaurant on the roadside, Yang Xiao ordered a chicken drumstick rice. Seeing the boss first pick up a big chicken drumstick, and then scooped a spoonful of thick soup and poured it on the white rice, Yang Xiao suddenly felt that life had hope, "Boss, please add another chicken drumstick!"

Holding an umbrella, Yang Xiao walked back slowly after a full meal. The room he rented was relatively remote even in this old community. The facilities were very old, and there were not many residents. The street lights in the community emitted a half-dead light.

The distance was not far, so he stopped and looked at the old residential building dozens of meters away through the rain. After a long time, he sighed softly. Behind the window on the right side of the second floor with the light on, he had spent the most difficult time.

Before he could sigh, the light behind the window slowly dimmed at a speed visible to the naked eye, and finally went out.

What's going on?

It couldn't be a power outage, after all, the lights on the 5th floor were still on. Was it because the wiring was old and the contact was bad?

Yang Xiao didn't understand much about this, but he had to work overtime to perfect the script at night, and he couldn't do without lights. He hurried back, and just as he stepped on the steps at the corner of the second floor, he heard a "gurgling" sound of water.

The sound of water came from his room, and it sounded like the shower head in the bathroom was turned on. What made Yang Xiao more alert was that his door was not locked. At this moment, it was half-closed, leaving a shallow gap.

Through the gap, you can see that the room is dark. Suddenly, the sound of water in the bathroom stopped abruptly. Before Yang Xiao could react, accompanied by the sound of stepping on water, a vague black figure suddenly flashed out of the bathroom.
