Mount and Blade System: Start from Pioneer Lords
#67 - The Power of Spells
"Oh? Let me try." Hearing this, Li Wei rolled up his sleeves and walked in, wanting to see just how strong this spell was.
"Cough, how can we trouble you to do it yourself, my lord? Let the barbarians handle it."
Sam felt a cold sweat running down his back and quickly said obsequiously.
In reality, he had thoroughly witnessed this lord's monstrous strength these past few days, watching him practice swordsmanship with a giant sword the size of a door panel every morning on the flat ground.
When a giant sword the size of a man came down, forget stone skin, even iron skin wouldn't be effective.
Li Wei smiled as he looked at Sam, staring at him until he stiffened, before nodding, "You have a point. Muto, you try it."
Sam secretly breathed a sigh of relief, wiping the fine beads of sweat from his forehead. If he had really let this lord try, he would have been whipped for sure.
A few hundred lashes, even if he were strong, would have sent him to meet his ancestors.
Muto walked over with a curved knife. He didn't use his thirty-pound battle axe, as a goat wasn't worth using his best weapon.
The goat's skin, after being enchanted with stone skin, didn't change much, but it was faintly shrouded in a layer of gray light.
Muto, holding the knife, scared the goat into bleating, but it was tied to the stake and couldn't break free.
Without further ado, Muto brought the knife down squarely on the goat's neck.
Baa!
The poor goat only had time to let out a terrified scream before its body was knocked to the ground by gravity, its neck limply collapsing.
Although its neck wasn't cleanly severed as expected, the bones inside were definitely broken.
Muto looked at the cold gleam of the blade. He hadn't used his full strength, merely a casual swing.
But that was enough to chop off a goat's head, yet now it had only broken its neck. Of course, the goat clearly wouldn't survive such an impact.
"Your spell isn't that great." Looking at the dead goat, Muto curled his lip. He hadn't even used his full strength.
Sam, with a stiff neck, argued forcefully, "Did the skin break or not?"
Muto scratched his head. Although the goat had been killed by his axe, the skin hadn't broken.
"How many people can this spell be applied to? How long does it last?" Li Wei kicked the goat on the ground and asked.
He could see that this spell was like putting on a layer of armor, without the effect of absorbing all damage like in wizard novels. If it encountered a strongman using a warhammer, it would obviously be useless.
But even so, it was still valuable. Li Wei took out a small knife and tested it. The goat's skin was now like wearing leather armor.
"My lord, I can apply it to at most a hundred people, and it lasts for half an hour." Sam said proudly, then hesitated before saying, "But the more people, the weaker the effect, not nearly as good as applying it to one person."
"If you apply it to fifty people, how much does the power decrease?" Li Wei directly asked what was most useful to him at the moment.
Next, when the wilderness coalition arrives, the barbarians will definitely be the main force, facing this gathered bandit army head-on. If there is a spell buff, casualties will inevitably be reduced.
"It should be equivalent to a layer of cowhide?" Sam said uncertainly.
Li Wei nodded. It was a bit worse than he thought, but it was better than nothing.
Now the barbarians' equipment has been updated. Except for the ten or so wearing iron armor, the rest are all wearing chainmail undergarments with studded armor on top. If they also have stone skin.
Even if the enemy's attack can break through the studded armor, the remaining force will stop in front of skin comparable to cowhide, greatly increasing the barbarians' chances of survival.
After learning some more details, Li Wei left with his hands behind his back.
Sam also wiped the sweat from his forehead. He felt that talking to this lord was no different from facing a jungle tiger, as if he would devour someone at any moment.
"It's almost lunchtime now, let's go eat." Sam said familiarly, then headed towards the camp's cafeteria.
"You still want to eat? Do I need to tell you what to do next?"
Muto sneered, showing the three-finger-thick cowhide whip on his butt, which Zart had handed over to him.
Sam smiled awkwardly and tied himself up again with rope very skillfully.
He cursed inwardly. He had performed the spell earlier in order to integrate with them, but he didn't expect these orcs to be far from as stupid as they seemed.
The two orcs were still not satisfied and went over to tie him to the stake.
Zart nodded in satisfaction and left with his hands behind his back, leaving an orc to watch over him in shifts.
The lord circled around and came to the area where the Evil Tooth tribe warriors were held.
"My lord."
Guarding them were ten Fedde warriors wearing leather armor and single-handed swords at their waists. They respectfully saluted with their hands on their chests.
If Bai Ruisi Tina's sudden announcement that this Debe nobleman was their future lord had caused some second thoughts, then since personally witnessing this lord easily defeat more than three hundred enemies, only heartfelt admiration remained.
Li Wei nodded slightly and walked in.
The seventy-two prisoners lying on the ground sat up one by one after seeing someone enter, looking at Li Wei with different expressions.
There was hatred, fear, and even flattery, all in the same way.
Li Wei didn't mind, and just said calmly, "Are there any who want to join High Cliff Fortress? Joining will get you out of prisoner status, you can become my citizens, and enjoy the treatment that citizens should have."
Li Wei was too lazy to tell them any great principles. A group of savages probably wouldn't understand, so he just talked about the benefits.
A group of people looked at each other. Finally, one person hesitated for a while and cautiously asked, "My lord, what do we need to do to become your citizens?"
The reason for his question was that the fact that the Fedde remnants had discovered iron ore had been exposed, and the attacks would definitely not be limited to their Evil Tooth tribe.
Recruiting them at this time was mostly to use them as meat shields to fill the battlefield and reduce pressure.
This was also something that their Evil Tooth tribe often did. When they captured people from enemy tribes, they would let them go to the front to consume the strength of their own tribe.
"Just work for me." Li Wei told the truth.
Although these northern savages were all individually strong and quite burly, Li Wei didn't like them as soldiers.
Even if he expanded the soldiers of High Cliff Fortress in the future, Li Wei would basically only choose from the Fedde remnants.
Compared to physique, the Fedde remnants were not worse than these savages, and most of the Fedde remnants knew a few words.
The difference between the two, in ancient times, was the difference between good families and local ruffians.
It was obvious who to choose to join the army.
Li Wei would let these northern savages shine for High Cliff Fortress's military industry or animal husbandry.
