Mastering Lightning from Hogwarts
#243 - Design drawing (ask for monthly ticket recommendation)
This has led to Anduin feeling a bit troubled recently. Despite having considerable wealth, he still feels like he's short on money.
Faced with this situation, cutting expenses is out of the question. It seems he needs to think of other ways to increase his income. He had originally planned to consider starting a business after graduation, but now he has to start planning ahead.
A month after returning to his home at 277 Diagon Alley, Anduin routinely entered his alchemy lab, sat down at his workbench, and casually opened a large sheet of parchment. It contained a partially drawn diagram of an alchemical device, and he stared at the drawing, deep in thought.
He was seriously considering his next course of action.
Since he was going into business, his first choice was naturally the alchemical products he was most familiar with, and he couldn't waste the commercial location of Diagon Alley.
Just like the joke he had with Ms. Pernel, he planned to open a company here to sell alchemical products.
Since he was going to do business, he had to consider the relationship between supply and demand. Compared to retail sales of some lifestyle alchemical products, he preferred to deal directly with the Ministry of Magic.
If he could become a stable supplier to the Ministry of Magic, that would be much better than selling everyday items one by one.
Selling practical products with high consumption rates that could significantly improve work efficiency, he figured the Ministry of Magic wouldn't refuse.
Moreover, he had already laid the groundwork. After communicating with Aurors like Moody, he realized that his tactical equipment had a considerable market.
Furthermore, doing business with an institution like the Ministry of Magic also required considering relationships. Relying on others to come to you just because your product quality is good is unrealistic.
Anduin had previously done a great favor for the Minister of Magic, so Minister Bagnold would definitely be easy to talk to. The new Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement was Professor Bones' sister, so she was practically one of his own. Not to mention Moody in the Auror Command Office, the two of them were so close they were practically about to become sworn brothers.
With sales channels in place, he had a concrete idea. Now, the question to consider was the products.
First of all, the protective charms, flash charms, sonic boom charms, etc., that he had shown Moody before could all be used as regular flagship products. These standardized items were consumables that needed to be replenished frequently.
Moreover, after mass production, he could slightly cut corners and reduce their duration. This way, even if a single charm wasn't used, it would only last for three months, and it would have to be replaced after that time. Of course, replacing the original charm could come with a discount, which would guarantee continuous sales and cash flow.
Anyway, he was the one making them, and no one knew how long these items really lasted.
And some higher quality tactical equipment, such as anti-magic handcuffs, phase shoes, and tactical vests, would be of great help to those Aurors and Hit Wizards fighting on the front lines. Therefore, whether the Ministry of Magic equipped them uniformly or they came to buy them privately, it would bring him enough wealth.
At the same time, he planned to develop some attractive equipment for these Ministry of Magic field personnel.
On this point, he actually had ideas already. Anduin had previously had in-depth discussions with Moody about the problems frequently encountered by front-line troops, and he planned to start from these areas and create some targeted equipment.
However, what he was currently considering was not the product issue, but the production capacity issue.
He placed his hand on the parchment and carefully felt it, thinking about using the device he was developing to solve the production capacity problem.
To create a stable and usable alchemical item, three elements are needed: materials, runes, and magic power.
The material needs to consider magical conductivity and magical storage capacity. The stronger the magical conductivity of the material, the closer the engraved runes will be to the original strength of magic. Therefore, the same alchemical item will be stronger if the material is better.
The magic storage capacity determines the upper limit of the engraved runes and how long the runes can last. The so-called rune upper limit is similar to how casting the Fiendfyre Curse requires at least 30 units of magic power, but if the material can only bear a maximum of 20 units of magic power, then this material cannot be used to make an item that can cast Fiendfyre.
The runes need to consider the precision of the engraving. This is not as simple as imagined, because many finished alchemical items are not flat pieces. Engraving on curved and folded materials is a test of skill, and it also requires a continuous and stable input of magic power, otherwise it will be difficult to complete.
The last item, magic power, is naturally the energy that drives the entire magical item. However, unless extremely good materials are used, the magic power in many alchemical items will dissipate over time. And many alchemical items need to have magic power inputted into them to activate when used, such as the throwing charms that Anduin makes.
Of course, the alchemical items that Anduin uses himself will have a rechargeable function. If there is not enough magic power, just add more, which greatly extends the service life.
But if it is a mass-produced alchemical product, he will not be so considerate. After all, there must be consumption in order to have replenishment.
Therefore, making an alchemical item is not as simple as imagined. Cutting materials, shaping them, and maintaining magic power for engraving, even for a skilled person like Anduin, this process takes a lot of time.
If the products sold in business were all made by hand one by one like this, it would be too much of a waste of time. This is why the number of items produced by many alchemy workshops is not particularly large.
To solve this problem, either make high-end products, making one item to last a year, or hire people to help.
And the items that Anduin wants to sell are all consumable equipment commonly used by Aurors, so the quantity will definitely not be small, but hiring people will increase costs.
Selling too cheaply will reduce profits, and selling too expensively will reduce sales accordingly.
So, to solve the problem of production capacity, he decided to first get the instrument on the drawing in front of him.
And the drawing he is designing is a magical lathe that can independently process alchemical items.
In his vision, as long as materials are added to this magical lathe, it can automatically cut, shape, and accurately complete the engraving work.
It would be equivalent to directly setting up an automated production line in his underground laboratory, producing those standardized items seamlessly 24 hours a day.
Among them, the material part is very simple. Anyway, he will not use high-hardness materials such as Urim steel for this standardized equipment. The power of the machine is enough to divide and suppress the semi-finished products into fixed shapes.
Moreover, compared to handmade products, the finished products shaped by the machine may be more precise and have more consistent specifications.
