Martin Variety in American Comics

Chapter 17 Penguin: I am the boss!

Although his vision and hearing were temporarily taken away by the blindfold and earplugs, Martin was not panicked.

His nose twitched, and he smelled a strong mixture of leather and high-end perfume. With both hands on the seat, he could judge the speed of the vehicle from the degree of vibration.

What's more, Martin was alone and only needed one chance.

The safety measures that Penguin had worked so hard to take were of no use to him.

He leaned back on the seat and relaxed his body.

Hearing Candy, who was driving in front, let out a long sigh of relief, Martin smiled and began to rest.

What the secretary didn't know was that as she drove out of the garage, a blue robin quietly followed her under the cover of night and silently fired a tracker at her car.

"Oracle, I have locked on Candy, the secretary of Penguin, and there is a young man with red hair in her car."

Nightwing rode a motorcycle, slowly shuttled through the traffic, and asked the girl in the Bat Cave for help.

"The young man's name is Martin, a world-class martial artist. He has never failed since his debut... Wait, he seems to have appeared near the antenna that uploaded the encrypted file."

Oracle is very efficient. Not only did he find the information on the surface, but he also dug up some clues that ordinary people could hardly find.

Nightwing's face under the mask showed a surprised expression: "Could he be the one who tipped us off?"

"There is insufficient evidence now, so you have to judge for yourself."

"Damn it!"

Nightwing, who hurried back to Gotham from Brühlhaven, muttered in a low voice, and then asked: "What on earth did Batman go to do? This is his city. He called me here, but he just left it alone?"

Oracle listened to the complaints in the headset and reminded: "Focus, Nightwing. Now is not the time for you to have a quarrel with Batman."

"I don't care about that old guy."

Nightwing said something with a double meaning, and then turned his attention to the vehicle in front of him, holding its tail tightly.

...

"Mr. Martin, we're here!"

After an unknown amount of time, Martin heard Candy's gentle voice, took off his eye mask and headphones, squinted his eyes, and adjusted to the strong light coming from outside the car.

After his vision became clear, he got out of the car and looked around, and found himself in a tunnel-like place. The long corridor was all wrapped in steel plates, and there was a headlight every few meters above his head, illuminating every corner of the corridor.

Fully armed people were carrying piles of crates, most of which were weapons, and a small number were handled with care, and no one knew what they were loaded with.

There were even pickup trucks and off-road vehicles running in the corridor.

Martin silently remembered all this in his heart, and waved his hand expressionlessly: "Let's go, I'm beginning to lose interest in this overly mysterious meeting."

Canti didn't dare to speak, smiled a few words, and made a gesture of invitation to Martin.

The corridor was very long, and it was unknown where the other end led to, but the end Martin was going to led to a huge vault door that almost supported the entire tunnel.

Candy stepped forward and said a few words to the camera. The steel pillars on the huge steel door retracted from the depression one by one, and slowly opened outwards under the action of the electric push structure.

"Welcome, welcome, my friend, please forgive my impoliteness!"

The Penguin held his umbrella, which he never left, opened his arms, and made a gesture of hugging.

Martin did not move, and his eyes were instantly locked on the burly man in black armor behind the Penguin.

He sneered, "I was wondering today, I just arrived in Gotham, where did a group of lunatics come from to kill me. It turned out to be your people."

Martin's eyes moved down and fell on the Penguin.

This big man who killed his way up from the bottom of Gotham felt a chill on his back, and he became more vigilant against Martin.

But the Penguin's face was filled with a sunny smile, as if Martin was his brother whom he had never met:

"Mr. Martin, everything that happened during the day was a misunderstanding. Let me introduce you, this is the Arkham Knight..."

"What happened during the day today was not a misunderstanding either."

The Arkham Knight did not give the Penguin any face at all, interrupted him directly and even demolished his plan.

Martin shook his head and said, "Mr. Cobblepot's treatment here is really good, and subordinates can directly kiss their superiors. It seems that I didn't find the wrong person."

After being ridiculed by two people, the Penguin still had a smile on his face: "I don't have the honor of being the boss of the Arkham Knight. He is the support given to me by my allies, and he is considered a collaborator."

Martin certainly knew that the Penguin's ally was the Assassin's League, and this cold Arkham Knight was the former second-generation Robin - Jason Todd.

But he did not go into the topic, instead he pointed at Arkham Knight and said: "This guy is a collaborator? Then what am I? Today I killed all his men in one go."

"You are looking for death!"

When the witch warriors were mentioned, Arkham Knight was instantly furious, like an angry beast.

"It's not certain who will die!"

Martin narrowed his eyes, clenched his fists, and confronted him.

The Penguin was overwhelmed by this scene, and stretched out his two short hands to try to separate Martin and Arkham Knight.

Candy and another secretary, Tracy, also grabbed Martin and Arkham Knight's arms respectively, trying to pull the two apart.

But the three of them together, that little strength is no different from a feather on Martin and Arkham Knight's shoulders.

"Enough!"

The Penguin finally couldn't stand it anymore. He was a gangster boss, not a street patrolman.

Today should have been a meeting between two strong men, not a farce like a child's fight.

"You leave now?"

The Penguin waved his umbrella, pointed at Arkham Knight, and ordered him to leave.

"Are you sure?" Arkham Knight broke free from Tracy and lowered his head to question the Penguin.

The Penguin was enraged: "This is my territory. I am entertaining my own guests. You leave now."

"Hmph, then you can do whatever you want!" Arkham Knight sneered and left the vault directly.

Martin also pushed away Candy who was holding his shoulder, and asked the Penguin with dissatisfaction: "Where did you find this young man? He has no manners at all."

The Penguin seemed to be afraid of something and didn't want to mention it again. Instead, he asked Martin to sit down at the banquet that had been prepared long ago.

The door of the vault was locked.

The two people at the banquet were just talking about business, and they put the feast into their stomachs while talking.

After the main meal, while waiting for dessert, Martin shook the red wine glass and sighed: "It turns out that such a delicious meal can be prepared in such a closed environment. It seems that Mr. Cobblepot has put a lot of thought into it."

Although the Arkham Knight left, he found that there were other gunmen hiding in the vault. Although they did not show up, they pointed their guns at him.

He could only endure and look for an opportunity to launch a fatal attack.

"Mr. Martin is a world-class martial artist. It is not too much for me to make more preparations to meet a friend like you."

The Penguin raised his glass, and so did Martin.

The two were about to clink glasses when an alarm suddenly sounded in the vault.

"We were attacked. It was Nightwing...ah!"

The alarm stopped abruptly.

"Nightwing is nothing."

Martin slapped the table and stood up, patting his chest and said: "I will catch him now, as a way to repay Mr. Cobblepot for the banquet."

"There is no need for Mr. Martin to do anything, I have already made preparations."

The Penguin waved his hand and said regretfully: "I originally prepared these for Batman, but I didn't expect that only Nightwing came. It's a waste of talent!"
