: ☆Chapter 25
Dolores' eyes widened in disbelief. "Are you flirting with me, Mr. Voldemort?"
"You can pretend it is."
"Then I have the right to question your professionalism as a teacher."
"Then I also have the right to report to the Headmaster that several Gryffindor students are privately teaching Animagus for some ulterior purpose." Voldemort showed a disgusting smile.
"I thought you were at least a gentleman who kept his word."
"Sorry, all my virtues will only be reserved for my wife."
Voldemort's words almost made her feel completely out of place. What was he implying? Does he want to find a stepmother for his son?
Thinking of this, she almost slapped the table in anger.
"Am I lucky enough to know her name?"
"Whose name?" he asked deliberately.
"Your wife." She squeezed the words between her teeth.
"Ah," he made an embarrassed look, "I don't think we're close enough to share this, Miss Rogers."
"Very well," Dolores calmed down a little. "Does that mean rejection? You're still unwilling to answer a student's curiosity in the end?"
"Who did you love?" He didn't answer directly. He paced to the window and focused his attention on the playful fourth-grade Hufflepuffs in the distance. "Really, who did you love?"
She stared at the wood grain on the lecture table, they were very old, maybe they had been placed here since the school was founded, she thought? The laughter of the Hufflepuffs was getting farther and farther, what was she doing at this age, probably trying to get his love. Maybe it was the wrong decision to come to England, she thought very clearly at first, found Voldemort, had a peaceful conversation with him, had a chat, and then negotiated well about Ellen. But she couldn't do it. When they met for the first time, when she saw his face, cowardice overwhelmed everything.
"I haven't been in love," she finally replied.
Voldemort turned around slowly, his expression unexpectedly calm, but his eyes stared coldly at Dolores, as if he was about to cast a 'Heartbreaker' in the next second.
"Now that you've answered my question, Miss Rogers, I'll do it for you."
"Voldemort is coming to teach us?! And he didn't try to tell Professor Dumbledore?!" James almost jumped at the news.
"I'm a little curious, what is the relationship between you two?" Sirius looked her up and down, as if she had changed into another person.
"What? Isn't your first reaction refusal?" Dolores also said in surprise, "I thought you would be unwilling to accept it!" Then this matter could be left to her liking.
"Who do you think we are, the old-fashioned bashing of Voldemort in the papers?"
"But Sirius, don't you hate him?" she asked again.
"As long as he can help us learn Animagus." The boy shrugged indifferently.
"It's pretty cool, I mean, as a professor," Lupin said.
"Not everything he did was cool," Dolores said gloomily.
"So how on earth did you convince him?" Sirius circled back to the question again.
She took a sip of the butterbeer the foursome brought back from Hogsmeade and threw out the words, "He's my ex-boyfriend."
But waiting for her were four boys who laughed and burst into tears—
James clutched his stomach: "I gotta say it's a great joke of the year!"
"Why would you rather believe my lies, when I tell the truth it always feels ridiculous!" she yelled angrily.
"But he's old enough to be your father." Lupin wiped the tears from his laugh.
Finally, Sirius sorted out his expression and thanked him solemnly: "Anyway, I will thank you this time, Dolores."
"Thank you for not telling Snotling about it. He even threatened me after class yesterday. He already knew what we were doing—" James said.
Then Sirius answered proudly, "But we don't believe that, if he really knew we would be in the principal's office now."
"It's the Invisibility Cloak," James handed it to her, smiling suggestively. "Use it well."
"Thanks." Dolores glared at the boys who winked at her, left the room of requests, and walked towards the library. She was beginning to realize that time was running out for her to prepare for O.W.Ls, and she didn't want to fail any exams in front of Voldemort.
When she was about to step into the library, she directly bumped into Angela.
"Hey, I was going to find you guys, why did it end so early?" She looked at Angela, Edwin and Lily who had just come out of the library.
Unexpectedly, Angela grabbed her hand tightly and asked in a low voice, "Will Mrs. Pince take care of this corridor?"
"I thought, no? It's outside the library, wait, you haven't answered my question—"
"Ah, ah!" Her words were interrupted by Angela excited scream, and then got a passionate hug, "I and Edwin be engaged!"
Dolores was almost at a loss. "First Snape had a big fight with me and never spoke to me again, and then suddenly you're getting engaged," she turned to Lily. "If you tell me now you're dropping out of school and going back to marijuana. I wouldn't be surprised if the melon world takes the university entrance exam."
"I proposed to her this morning," Edwin said cheerfully. "We're going to get married as soon as we graduate."
Angela raised her left hand, with a simple silver ring on her ring finger.
Something is wrong. Why did the only son of the Primule family propose with such a shabby ring?
"You haven't told your mother yet?" she asked.
"Vanessa?" Edwin said absently. "She'll find out eventually."
"She's not someone who can be sent off with a single notice," Dolores warned.
"Can I ask you a question?" Edwin said suddenly, "Why, as an American, do you know so much about the British wizarding world?"
She was stopped by the sudden question, "Just heard." Her voice became very weak, not convincing at all.
"Then don't ruin our engagement day with these hearsay."
Angela was still happily stroking her ring that seemed to be worth only five Galleons. Lily seemed to realize something, but she obviously gave up and turned her head to congratulate Angela.
"I'm sorry," Dolores said.
Edwin returned from a momentary gaffe to the friendly top student's face: "I'm sorry, it's just that my family is too sensitive, and I don't want anyone to judge it. Not even you, Dolores."
She knew why Edwin said that. Before she left the UK two years ago, there was a rumor circulating about Plimel: Edwin's father's untimely death was orchestrated by Lady Vanessa. Even a few old friends of his father wanted to appeal Wizengamore, but they had to let it go because they couldn't find any evidence.
Angela's happy smiling face is still in front of her eyes, maybe the reason Edwin loves Angela is so simple, because people always chase those things they don't have, such as sincerity, such as a kind heart.
"Angela," she called to the jolly girl who was bouncing in front of her, "happy engagement and happiness forever."
