Legacy of the Dark Sage

As to what kind of heaven-defying capability the other Ancient Magic users could do, Dusk believed the answer to that could only be given by the limit of one's imagination. If he had to pitch his idea, he felt the most heaven-defying of all could be the Soul Emperor.

After all, she dealt with souls, which were considered the core of one's life.

Dusk could not help but look at Kyran and wondered what he thought. The latter possessed the known most powerful Ancient magic. But what did he really feel about it?

If Dusk posed that question before Kyran's second meeting with Caelan's remnant soul, he would have received a startling answer. Because Kyran never considered Void magic to be the most powerful. If anything, it was Time magic that he regarded as such. He was even convinced it was the most fearsome among the four Ancient Magic.

After meeting Caelan again, Kyran's view changed. He still believed Time magic was fearsome, but the repercussions it would inflict on its user were also something to be fearful of. Just by this, he no longer believed that Time was the most fearsome Ancient magic.

Frankly, each of the Ancient Magic complemented and contradicted one another. Because of this, none of them could be considered superior to the other. Not even when one possessed two Ancient magic, could make one model over the rest.

However, there was one theory that Caelan taught Kyran, which made the latter view the Void magic and Ancient magic in general differently. That point was connected to a comment the Shaiha offhandedly said to Kyran during one of their internal conversations.

But Dusk was unaware of all these things. Thus, with his limited knowledge and understanding of Ancient Magic, he was convinced that Soul magic could do far more heaven-defying magic than create a world.

Kyran's complexion paled after he completed the temporary world. Without bothering to admire his handiwork, he asked Dusk to contact his subject and tell Chrysanthemum that the route was now available.

More than an hour had passed since Chrysanthemum and Kyran talked, and the former had already finished gathering the fastest among her brethren. Although moving from one place to another using their route did not require speed, it was still required after exiting the route. Since Kyran only needed them to scout the location, Chrysanthemum did not bother to gather the most powerful among her brethren. Still, these groups would need someone powerful enough to defend them when needed. Thus, she planned to go with them.

Once the Spirits gathered around Chrysanthemum, Kyran authorized them to enter the temporary world.

Dusk was dumbfounded at what Kyran had just done. He could not understand the logic behind the latter simply authorizing Chrysanthemum and her people to enter, and poof, they were gone.

As if Kyran had suddenly developed the ability to read minds, he explained, "The temporary world is basically in the same plane as Somuli. However, entering it requires a pass of some sort. Since I am the one who created that temporary world, my words alone are enough to allow them access inside."

"The way you say that... are you trying to be a god or something," Dusk could not help but snort.

Kyran did not reply. However, Dusk noticed how his expression mellowed slightly. As if what he said made Kyran remember something unpleasant.

No.

Rather than Kyran showing an unpleasant look, it was better to say he looked reserved.

Why would Kyran suddenly show such a look? Dusk had no idea. And at the moment, it was unimportant.

"What will you do now?" he asked when Kyran moved.

Kyran looked at him with a slight shrug, "I don't plan on staying idle while waiting for their update. I'm heading down. Are you coming with me?"

"What else can I do? You don't want me disrupting your plan, right?"

"True," Kyran replied with a slight nod. "My people had yet to report back. But since I'm done with this place, I'm heading to meet them."

Dusk snorted, "You let them go first just to go after them. Tsk."

Kyran did not reply and instead chose to move on. He did not want to argue with Dusk over every little thing. Besides, he let Armak, Breira, and the Automatons go first to save him the trouble of dealing with every obstacle on the way himself. While he did not mind doing that, he wanted to ensure Armak and Breira had the opportunity to hone their abilities by fighting automatons.

"This..." Dusk muttered when they moved to the next room.

This room was where Kyran and his Sigils met the first group of automatons. Thus, remnants of their clash earlier were seen everywhere.

"We cleared this room before you arrived back there," Kyran explained while pointing his thumb toward the room they just left.

"So, if I came just earlier, I would have witnessed you guys."

Kyran shook his head, "If you came early, you would have been dead."

"You—."

"We're busy clearing this room. If you had arrived back there a few minutes early, then you would have triggered the array formation. You'd be dead before we could even save you."

"Tsk," Dusk clicked his tongue. He had only noticed it now but seemed to develop a habit of clicking his tongue whenever he was around Kyran. In the end, he did not refute the latter's words since he had a point.

"Is the array formation in that room that powerful?" Dusk asked instead. His Array knowledge was only so-so, and honestly, he needed help to recognize most of the formulas on the formation when Kyran was deciphering them.

"Yes, it was full of offensive formulas," Kyran answered. Since there was nothing much to do while they journeyed forth and waited for updates from Chrysanthemum and his Sigils, he reckoned it was acceptable to talk with Dusk to pass the time. "And the defensive and supportive formulas are equally annoying."

"Then how were you able to go past the formation?"

As soon as Dusk asked this question, he slapped his head as if recalling something and said, "Right. You can warp."

"I didn't."

"What?"

"To be precise, that formation had an anti-transmission formula, which prevented anyone from using any type of transmission-type moves."

"But you warped behind me."

"You're outside the formation's range," Kyran replied with a shrug. He might have downplayed it, but the truth was that the main array formation also had an anti-transmission formula. However, the formula only targeted specific areas around the castle and the underground section. If not, Kyran would genuinely be unable to use warp.

However, while warping around the areas not targeted by the anti-transmission formula was possible, Kyran could still not warp outside the castle.

Dusk let out an exaggerated sigh, "Too complicated. No wonder you could become friends with Loar; you two can speak the same language."

"You plan to let Loar control the automatons, right?" Kyran asked, intentionally bringing up the subject for them to discuss it.

Dusk realized what he was trying to do and cautiously replied, "Yes. But I am warning you. I don't have a say in the matter of acquiring the automatons. So, if you plan on convincing me to give up on them, stop. Because I don't plan on doing anything like that."

"I won't stop you."

Kyran's reply surprised Dusk. Nevertheless, he remained unconvinced as he looked at the younger man skeptically.

"But like I said, if something happens, I will make my move."

"When you say you will make your move... you're not planning to destroy them, are you?"

"No."

"You—!" Dusk had to stop himself from cursing at him before continuing, "Look. I get that you have really good Array Knowledge. But we are talking about automatons here. While I don't doubt your Array Knowledge, do you really think that is enough for you to activate an automaton?"

Kyran could not help but look at Dusk incredulously after hearing his response. Was he truly talking to Kyran about that, or was he talking about himself?

Unfortunately, Dusk mistook Kyran's look as confusion as he added while nodding his head, "That's right. Activating an automaton is a task on its own. Thus far, Loar is probably the only one out there who could do this. You may not know this, but Automatons are considered a legendary creation.

"In Loar's plane, they believed that if they succeeded in creating an Automaton, they would be closer to that person they considered a god. From this, it is already obvious how hard it is to create an Automaton, even more so activating one."

By the time Dusk finished talking, Kyran already zoned him out. He did not bother to explain nor wish to argue and chose to stay silent.

Dusk took Kyran's silence as the latter finally saw some sense. He even thought Kyran might feel a little embarrassed after learning about this. Thus, he only said, "That's right. It is best to stop while you are ahead. Let me deal with the automatons, alright?"
