Pirates: Beginning with the Patrolman
Chapter 4 Hallucination
Two days later, on a small island.
"Oh, you mean that pirate group? I saw it yesterday. It was chasing a merchant ship and heading northwest."
"Didn't the navy intercept it?"
"No."
"Ok, thanks."
Remos put away the notebook, smiled at the fisherman in front of him, turned and walked towards the town.
After replenishing some fresh water, Remos left the port and continued to move northwest.
In the past two days, he has landed on several small islands and asked many people, including sailors, islanders, and fishermen. The answers given by everyone were surprisingly consistent.
The Gun and Sword Pirates did pass by here, and did continue heading northwest.
But different people gave different answers as to the identity of the person being pursued.
Some said it was a merchant ship, some said it was a ship of the royal family of the Kingdom of Bars, and some said it was actually a small warship. There was also disagreement on the number of those being pursued. Some said it was two ships, and some said it was a small fleet.
But one thing everyone can be sure of is that in the day before and after they saw the Gun Sword Pirates, no navy ships were seen passing by.
This is outrageous. What on earth is the Navy doing?
If the Gun Sword Pirates really chased them for thousands of miles and acted so ostentatiously, it would be impossible for the navies of various branches along the way to have no reaction.
The pirates are so arrogant, isn't this a slap in the face of the navy?
So there are only two possibilities.
Either there was a problem with the navy and they just couldn't spare the manpower and warships to deal with the Gun and Sword Pirates.
Or, everyone is giving wrong information and someone is deliberately misleading me.
“Isn’t this ridiculous?”
Remus shook his head, dispelling the second thought.
He is just an unknown bounty hunter. Although he calls himself a sea patrol ranger, not many people know his name.
Even if someone wants to deal with me because of my pirate hunting over the past year, there is no need to make such a big fuss. He can just send out experts to eliminate me directly.
Of course, whether they can destroy themselves is another matter, but from the perspective of the pirates, they obviously have no reason to make things so complicated.
And how can they be sure that they will definitely ask these people?
If I didn't ask, or if I simply didn't come to this sea area, wouldn't the plan have failed?
Remos was more inclined to believe that there was something wrong with the navy. They were distracted by other things and had no choice but to allow the pirates to operate under their noses.
Of course there is a third possibility, that is, all the people he questioned were wrong, and it was not the Gunsword Pirates who were chasing the merchant ship from the beginning, but there was something else going on.
But this possibility is also very small. One person may admit his mistake, but not everyone will.
Especially the sailors, they are very sensitive to pirate ships and there is no possibility of mistaking them.
"So, what will happen to the Navy?"
Remos wanted to go to the naval base to find out the situation.
Unfortunately, the route he took seemed to be quite far from the naval base.
And when I think about it carefully, I don't seem to have remembered to ask the navy.
"How can you forget something so important? You still need to...someone in the future?!"
Just as he collected his thoughts, he caught a glimpse of a figure out of the corner of his eye. Remos' heart tightened and he immediately looked to the side.
All I saw was the endless sea.
"..."
Remos then remembered that he was still sailing on the sea. How could someone be standing on the sea?
"Maybe I'm a little tired these past two days, and I'm having hallucinations..."
He patted his forehead, adjusted the angle of the sail, and continued to move in the predetermined direction.
A day later, Remos saw a small island in the distance, and from a long distance away, he saw black smoke floating above the island.
"There is a situation!"
Remos immediately cheered up, adjusted the sails, and the boat headed straight for the island like a sharp sword.
An hour later, the pier was in sight and Remos finally saw the situation at the pier clearly.
There are traces of fighting everywhere!
There were craters on the ground left by artillery fire. A warehouse near the dock had collapsed for the most part. Black smoke was floating out of the warehouse, and there was obvious fire underneath.
Pirates attacked the town.
This was the only possibility Remus could think of.
But there was no trace of pirate ships near the port, only some ordinary ships, some sinking and some crooked.
The boat sailed into the harbor, and when the side of the boat touched the dock, Remos immediately jumped on and put the rope around the mooring column to prevent the boat from drifting away.
Then he drew his revolver and set off toward the town.
As he walked and observed the surrounding situation, Remos soon noticed something wrong.
There is no one in the town!
Not only in the town, but also at the dock, the pirates made such a big noise, but he didn't even see a dead body.
The pirates didn't kill anyone? Don't be ridiculous. These pirates are obviously not adventurers like Luffy. They are real pirates. Real pirates can't help but kill people.
The pirates collected the bodies? This idea was even more stupid. Pirates didn't care about that. They only killed and looted.
So, where did the bodies go?
Remos thought about this question in his mind and gradually came to the streets of the town.
The houses on both sides of the street were also in a mess, with signs of destruction everywhere, but he still didn't see anyone, no matter whether the other party was dead or alive.
Remos' heart became heavier and heavier, and his vigilance became higher and higher, guarding against possible attacks at any time, until he saw a certain object...
"This, this is a cell phone?!"
He looked at the black square object at his feet and froze in place.
The next second, the picture in front of his eyes seemed to flash, and the phone suddenly disappeared, as if it had never appeared.
However, he remembered very clearly that he had indeed seen a smart phone. With its square shape and huge glass screen, there was absolutely no way he could have mistaken it.
"Why is there a cell phone here? Was it left behind by another time traveler? No, that's not right, the cell phone is gone, this is not reality... Is this an illusion?!"
The more Remus thought about it, the more likely it seemed.
Considering the strange things he had experienced along the way and the inexplicable figure he had seen on the sea before, he became more and more certain that this might really be an illusion.
As his idea became clear, the air around him suddenly fluctuated slightly. At this moment, Remos suddenly noticed a fleeting shadow.
"Don't even think about running away!!"
Without even a second thought, he raised his hand and fired.
The bullet hit the air, and a figure staggered and appeared in front of him.
