Coruscant.

In the Supreme Chancellor's private office, Sheev Palpatine sat at his desk, his hands clasped together, his expression dark and deep. In the past few weeks since the confrontation with Ultron, he had gradually found himself in a state of tension and anxiety. He could not stand the gloating expression of the despicable robot who dared to gloat in front of him, the Dark Lord of the Sith.

Darth Sidious, the last of the Sith for a thousand years, survives under the Rule of Two of Darth Bane. He has set out a thousand-year-long plan of revenge against the Jedi and the Republic. However, now, all plans have been ruined by this walking piece of scrap metal.

The Avengers' existence was irritating and infuriating enough, and now they were bringing one of their enemies into some uncharted territory. This wasn't the "game" he was familiar with. It was getting more intense in increasingly unfamiliar territory. The Force offered him no comfort, only angered the secret Sith Lord even more.

Not long ago, he performed a ritual with his old master, Darth Bane, to direct the will of the Force more firmly toward the dark side. They succeeded, and they believed the downfall of the Jedi Order was inevitable, as the Force was against them. However, now it all seemed likely to fall apart. From the arrival of the Avengers about a year ago, to the subsequent additions and now Ultron... Sidious had never felt so nervous, and the anger inside threatened to burst out.

But right now, he needed to focus. In order to get things back on track and make sure all his efforts weren't sabotaged by some freak from a backwater planet, Sheff got word from his apprentice about a proposal he'd actually been planning for a while - one that the Confederacy was about to follow. He just didn't expect it to come so soon. This meant at least some movement in the next few months. But given the drastic turn of events, many parts of his entire grand plan had to be changed and adjusted to an unpleasant degree.

After a period of deep deliberation and discussing with Dooku what needed to be done, Palpatine put forth due effort to get things done accordingly. It was at this point that he made some calls and arranged some meetings.

Later that day, elsewhere on Coruscant, something was happening with the Republic's Avengers. While many of their members were busy dealing with their own problems or helping others, one member was watching over Mara Jade on her own. The Black Widow found it to be a great escape from the life she had known for years. Playing with little Jade brought her great pleasure as it stirred something within her. She didn't know if she could give it up so easily. At this moment, she was lying in bed, contentedly watching Mara climb into her lap and reach for the toy she held out to her.

However, a sound suddenly came from her belt, pulling her out of this peace. Black Widow looked down and found that her handheld holographic projector was beeping. She took the projector from her belt, raised it up, turned it on and checked...

"Padmé?" Black Widow said in an uncertain voice. She froze slightly when she saw the senator from Naboo had a firm and stern face.

"Hey, Natasha," Padmé said, her serious expression softening slightly as she gave her friend a small smile. "You'll probably hear this soon, but I wanted to tell you now."

"...Okay...what's going on?" Black Widow asked. "Do you remember those senators we discussed?" Amidala asked.

"You mean Mothma and Organa?" Black Widow said. When her friend nodded she said, "Not just them, but others as well."

Black Widow frowned, thinking about the special details implied in this. She subconsciously raised the holographic projector a little higher from Mara Jade's little hand that was trying to reach for the toy. "You mean... about the clones? Where do they come from?"

Padmé nodded emphatically. "Apparently, this may soon become a significant opportunity for you and the others."

Natasha took a deep breath and tried to calm herself. "Shouldn't I join in?" she asked.

"I received word a while ago that Kamino was about to be attacked."

Years of training and experience allowed her to filter out most of the surprise in his expression. She nodded in understanding, but her curiosity only grew. "Don't Jedi usually get notified before they act? And what about my team and you?"

Padmé shook her head. "There's a reason I keep track of everything... classified... I want to stay up to date on all the crazy stuff going on in the galaxy."

Black Widow couldn't help but grin. "So what you're saying is..." She further confirmed: "How can we understand the origin of this mysterious and important clone army?"

Amidala nodded again. "You are indeed very smart.

After a while, Black Widow's face turned cold, like an agent. "So Shen Ye." She said, to confirm further. "Where did the magical power of that clone army come from?"

Amidala nodded again in understanding.

"It would look suspicious if I were to collect that highly classified data in the heat of battle," Black Widow said, adding, "Steve probably wouldn't like it."

"I hate doing this either," Padmé said, clutching the fabric on her sleeve, "but we have no other chance to use intelligence like this. There are so many questions and so few answers. We just want to know how this could have happened without us knowing for so long."

Black Widow grinned and soothed, "Don't worry, Padmé. This is a rare opportunity and I won't act rashly. Mara, this is not a toy." Mara Jade let out a soft whimper and wanted the holoprojector.

Padmé chuckled, the serious atmosphere between the two of them almost disappearing.

"What do you mean you're too busy?" Black Widow asked back, as he held the projector above Mara, who was trying to reach for it. "Come on, let's work together and you can have it as easy as it is for me."
