Marvel crosses Star Wars, and everyone attacks the galaxy
Chapter 356 Discussion on Magic and Magical Instruments
Stephen slowly wrapped the cloth around his scarred hands, slowly preparing for the upcoming training session.
"Are you ready?" Mordo asked, standing in front of the former neurosurgeon.
"Why do you do that?" Strange asked back. "I'm not a warrior, you know.
"Just as it was before I came here," Mordo said. "But just as Celeste and I taught you before. True mastery of the mystical arts takes the form of balance with body and spirit.
“You can tell people that if you work out more physically, your magic will be stronger.
"It's not just what you call health," Mordo muttered. "It's about discipline of body and mind."
Stephen shook his shoulders. “If you say so.”
His eyes began to wander to the other side of the training ground.
"So how old is she?" Stephen said, referring to the leader of the magical cult.
Mordo frowned, staring at the Ancient One who was fanning himself as he continued to watch Bucky and Celeste bicker with each other.
"No one knows the Sorcerer Supreme's age. Only that she is Celtic and never talks about her past.
"You followed her and even you didn't know?" Stephen questioned Modo.
“I know her as determined, but unpredictable. Ruthless, but kind. She made me who I am today,” Mordo said proudly.
With that said, Carl switches to a fighting stance, which Strange mimics with a variation of his own.
"Trust your teacher..." Mordo said as the two of them circled each other. "Don't lose yourself."
"Like Caecilius?" Strange asked, though his tone was rhetorical.
"Yes."
Mordo throws a kick, which Strange deftly avoids.
Both men then locked arms, but Strange maintained his slight height advantage and pressed his elbow into Mordo's neck.
"You know him," Strange said.
Modo immediately reversed the situation and was now behind Stephen, putting him in a chokehold.
“When he first came to us, he had lost everyone he loved. He was a sad, broken man searching for answers in the mystical arts.
Strange struggled to break free of Mordo's grasp, but paused at Carl's next words.
"A smart student, but he's proud and headstrong. He questioned Ancient One and rejected her teachings. Does he remind you of anyone?
Strange nudged Carls in the stomach with his elbow, and the man rolled over slightly as he let go of Stephen.
Mordo stood up straight and nodded his approval to Strange, who rubbed his neck.
"He left Kamar-Taj shortly before your arrival," Mordo continued. "His disciples followed him like sheep. Seduced by false teachings.
"He stole the forbidden ritual, didn't he?" the former surgeon asked. "I heard it from Mr. Huang. Saw it in the Book of Cagliostro. What does it do?"
Mordo did not respond to his inquiry, but turned and walked towards a shelf with a number of tools and weapons.
"Don't ask any more questions," he said, grasping a cane.
"what is that?"
Carl pointed at him. "That's a problem."
The two chuckled.
"This is a magical artifact, called the Living Tribunal Scepter," Mordo said, placing it horizontally in front of Strange. "Some magics are too powerful to sustain, so we infuse them into magical artifacts to allow them to withstand pressures that we cannot bear."
Mordo reached out his other hand and grasped the other end of the scepter.
He then continued to stretch it, and the staff broke into several sections, all held together by glowing magical energy.
Mordo threw his arms around, swinging his staff in all directions, hitting the ground with magical energy emanating from it as it impacted.
It quickly retracted into its dormant state.
"There are many magical instruments." Mordo then listed some of them. "Wand of Vatum. Valtor's boots...
"When can I get my magic weapon?"
"When you're ready."
"I think I'm ready."
Baron Mordo simply gave him an expectant look. "When the weapon determines you are ready, you will be ready. For now... call upon the weapon.
Stephen put his hands together and concentrated his magic to form something. Slowly, glowing ethereal strings formed between his hands.
However, he doesn't have much time to fully form it due to Mordo's rapid attack on him.
“Fight!” Modo shouted, and Stephen hurriedly blocked a series of attacks. “Fight like your life is worth it!”
The final blow hit the strange whip he had conjured, but as soon as he pulled his magical weapon, the whip disappeared.
Mordo then proceeds to jump around Strange, his boots creating magical platforms for him.
Just as he walked behind the doctor, Doctor Strange was knocked to the ground by him as expected.
Mordo pulled him to his feet and walked away, leaving behind a slightly disoriented magic user who shook his head slightly.
"Looks like he got you."
Strange turned and saw Bucky standing over him, leaning on the staff he and Celeste were holding together.
"That's one way of saying it," Strange said. "It feels like if I had some kind of magical weapon, I'd have a better chance."
"Oh? Then are you willing to try it with me?" Bucky asked with a smile. "Here, hand-to-hand combat is always more comfortable than using these secrets."
Stephen shook his head. “No, thank you. Being knocked once today is enough.
“You’ll get one eventually,” Celeste promised. “It just has to choose you.”
"So you're saying that some of these artifacts have sentience?"
Celeste shrugged, the blue cape she wore fluttering slightly despite the lack of wind.
"In a way," the Jedi Shadow said casually. "They are imbued with magic from other realities, so some of the artifacts can be sentient. The way the Ancient One described it is that some entity sees it as a contract, allowing part of its essence to exist in another reality.
Strange gave her a strange look. "But... wouldn't that attract some... more... malicious entities?
Morn hummed. "I'm fairly certain that the Master wouldn't be foolish enough to willingly allow a malevolent entity into this reality."
“Besides, she locked up the bad guys,” Bucky said.
"How did you know?" Strange asked.
"Robbie found them here," Barnes revealed.
"Robbie found them?" Doctor Strange expressed confusion. "Could he have done that?"
“It’s something inside him,” Bucky said, patting his chest. “It can find evil and dark type shit, so he knows there’s something locked up in here.
The weird thing was…well, he didn't know how to feel about that.
“Ouch~” Strange gasped. “You know, they really should have a booklet about these things you know. Is this like a recurring gag here? It’s bad enough that Huang threatens my life if I don’t return a book.”
Bucky and Celeste both laughed, the latter patting his arm.
“Don’t worry, Stephen,” Celeste assured. “The Ancient One has been keeping Kamar-Taj and the Three Sanctuaries safe for centuries. She knows what she’s doing.
"Yeah." Strange nodded, blinked, and a gleam flashed in his eyes.
He looked down toward its source and saw Morn's lightsaber catching the light of the setting sun.
"What is that?" Strange asked, pointing to a cylindrical metal device attached to her hip. "Some laser demigod that powers that thing?"
Celeste smiled at the suggestion.
"No, no, there isn't one of those," she said, patting her lightsaber. "It's something that all Jedi forge themselves through the knowledge they've accumulated through the Force, and let it guide them in crafting their own lightsabers."
“This is so pretty,” Bucky said. “It can cut through damn anything.”
Stephen stared at the lightsaber inquiringly.
“So, if it can be done… can I make one myself?
Celeste hummed loudly, thoughtfully. "Hmm...if I had ever heard that question in my home galaxy, the answer would be a clear and concise no. One needs the Force to make a lightsaber.
"I sense there's a 'but' here..."
Moon smiled. "But now that we are here, it may not be impossible. What I want to say is that to realize its creation, Kyber crystals are needed, but in terms of the use of mystical arts, Kyber crystals may not be needed.
"Then I can do it," Strange said with increasing curiosity.
“Maybe,” Celeste admitted. “But training to make the most of it…that’s another story.
“I can use it well,” Bucky said, raising his metal arm brazenly. “No broken limbs here.”
Celeste snorted and patted his cheek affectionately. "That's because you're a natural fighter, dear."
Strange uttered a sound of dissatisfaction at the couple in front of him.
"So... about that lightsaber..."
"I doubt you'll accidentally chop off a limb by mishandling it," Moen pointed out.
Strange couldn't help but look at the Winter Soldier's metal arm.
“That’s not how I lost it, in case you’re wondering,” Bucky said dryly. “Gee, does anyone read history these days?”
"Now you sound like an old man," Strange retorted. "Think about it, how old are you?
"At his age, he still knows how to take a beating without sweating, which is amazing."
"I won't let you go."
"Ouch! Buck!"
The three turned and saw Robbie Reyes running towards them.
“Robbie,” Bucky greeted warmly.
"We have to leave now," Reyes said almost frantically.
"What's going on?" Celeste asked in horror.
"It's not good, that's all," Robbie said. "That Sith freak. Saratos found him.
