Chapter 339 God King Odin
The man did not answer, but turned toward the cliff and continued walking toward it. He turned around and motioned for them to follow him.
Bucky and Celeste were very reluctant about this request, but they had something else to do at this moment. Once they were standing next to the one-eyed man, they heard him speak.
"I have been known by many names, titles, and nicknames, a list too long to name in front of you two," the man said slowly. "So I'll give you the simplest. All-Father, Wise One, Lord of the Hangings. I have as many names as the wind. I have as many ways to die as I have titles.
Celeste was mesmerized by it all.
But Bucky...
“I am or was… the former King of Asgard.
Bucky's eyes widened as he heard the last piece of information. After 2012, the world became aware of the group of heroes known as the Avengers.
Among their team is a figure from Norse mythology, known to many as Thor.
During that time, the ancient pantheon became very popular around the world and many people were reading the myths.
“You…” Bucky muttered in sudden realization. “You are—”
"Odin," the one-eyed man revealed. "You two are my guests now."
Celeste noticed Bucky's reaction and quickly asked him the obvious question.
“Do you know who this is?
“He’s a god,” Bucky responded immediately, and Celeste’s eyes widened considerably.
"god?!"
"Most people revere me and my fellow Asgardians as deities. Others know us as a highly advanced society and are mistaken for gods. It is understandable to see the confusion and misunderstanding; especially with our long lifespans.
"Still sounds like God to me. If you know magic and shit next to science, that makes you a God in my book." Bucky said, making Odin laugh.
"Well, I have never denied the title," Odin said humorously. "The title of gods and goddesses seems to fit, as my people all possess many specialties and abilities."
"So are you really a god?" Celeste asked in disbelief.
Odin just shrugged. "I am what you need me to be."
“That doesn’t really answer anything,” Bucky said flatly.
The Norse God simply didn't consider the Winter Soldier in his response, choosing instead to focus on something else.
"Oh." Odin stared at the amulet clasped securely around Celeste's neck. "Perhaps... that's why you came to me.
Bucky and Celeste looked down at the Maul Amulet, and Odin stood before the Jedi with his hand raised.
It hovered before him, and he closed one eye in concentration.
"This is an object of great darkness," the All-Father began slowly. "An ancient corruption, an affront to life itself."
Celeste's eyes widened as she watched Odin continue.
"Ah, yes, it has been centuries since I last encountered such a creature." The Old God hummed loudly. "Terrible people, they do not know the path they are destined to take. The Sith never learn from their mistakes, do they?
"You seem to know a lot about the Sith," Celeste said, eyeing Odin suspiciously.
"Just as I know the Jedi," Odin said. "There is much more I know, but that knowledge can be found elsewhere on this planet.
"Why can't you tell us now?" the Winter Soldier asked.
"Because it is not my duty," Odin replied simply. "There are others in this world who can explain in more detail, who can teach you more than you already know. The Force is only the beginning.
"What does this mean?" Celeste asked.
"You will learn in time, my child," Odin said kindly. "But before you go..."
With just a touch, the Sith relic around the Jedi Knight's neck began to glow. On its surface, ancient Norse runes began to appear in an intricate pattern along with other glyphs and symbols. It wasn't long before the light went out and everything seemed to return to normal.
"What did you do?" Celeste asked, eyes wide, one hand on the amulet.
"I helped you, if only for a moment," he told them. "If I had more power, the seal I placed on this horrible thing would last longer.
“So what?” Bucky asked, trying to get more clarity.
"The soul inside that object began to stir." Odin elaborated. "While there are many explanations of how it works, I can tell you in the simplest terms that I have placed a binding spell on this amulet. Whoever lives inside will not be getting out anytime soon.
Celeste lowered her head slightly and saw the tip of the amulet. "I see..."
"But I can do the next best thing for you, Celeste."
"What is it?"
"direction--"
“Please don’t tell us any philosophical bullshit, Odin,” Buggy said with a slight groan.
Odin smiled at the veteran's demeanor. "Nothing much, but a step in the right direction to a place that will aid in your current endeavors."
"So where is this place?" Celeste asked.
“Nepal, more specifically the city of Kathmandu.”
“Are you sure you want to send us to this place…will it help Celeste?
“People can only hope.”
“Can…can we know who we are looking for? she asked.
Odin shook his head. "Once you're there, they'll be well aware of your presence. My power combined with the contents of the amulet will be enough to act as a beacon and lead them straight to you."
"That's reassuring," Celeste breathed out, giving Odin a grateful look.
"In order to have a future, it's important that the past helps the present," the All-Father said, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "You both need to believe in your abilities and each other, and you will succeed where many have failed."
For Bucky, he wasn't quite sure what Odin was talking about, but for Celeste…
It felt like an old Jedi Master was speaking to her, only this one was wiser and possessed a greater degree of power that she could only understand.
"But why help us?" Morn asked. "We are strangers to you."
Odin didn't respond for a moment, staring at the troubled 'young' Jedi.
"When my son came into this world, I sent him here to teach him a lesson of restraint, control, and humility," he said. "But in that time, Thor has returned with something more. Over the past few years, I have come to realize my mistakes, and while I wish I could correct them, I can at least do what I can here and now to help correct what is about to happen. There is something powerful about faith and hope. Both make us strong. That's why so many of us are here. It's what we fight with when we lose everything else..."
