Marvel crosses Star Wars, and everyone attacks the galaxy
Chapter 309 The idea of retreating
Back at the Vault base, everyone is trying to recover from what happened, counting their losses and trying to prepare for the inevitable.
A sense of impending dread permeated the base, and everyone was on edge.
At this moment, the two men stood alone on the landing platform of the shelter base, and neither of them cared much about the rain.
Their battle suits protected them from the rain to a great extent, except for one whose mouth was exposed.
"I admit, T'Challa, I'm surprised you helped us so quickly," Matt admitted, and the two of them rested for a while.
"I would say the same thing to you, my friend," T'Challa said. "You are not the type to go to war."
Daredevil didn't react at first, silently feeling the raindrops falling on him and off of him at the same time.
"I don't think I've done much since becoming a member of the Avengers." Matt said after a few seconds of silence. "Although I admit, I didn't expect you to be so eager to join us, and in the middle of a war."
T'Challa spoke out loud, rubbing his chin in thought. "My time away from Wakanda, America, Kashyyyek, and now here has shown me that my people are too isolated. When one has the power to save lives and help others and keeps it for themselves... I find nothing more selfish than that.
Matt found himself smirking. "Did you get that from Peter?"
"What do you mean?" asked the prince.
"Peter told me something like that once," Matt said, shrugging. "Why did he do what he did?"
"What did he tell you?"
Matt stared ahead and saw Peter standing in front of several clones from the 501st and 104th Legions, handing out web grenades and giving instructions on how to use them.
"With great power comes great responsibility." Matt said after a few seconds as he watched the teenager help the clone fix his shoulder. "If you have the ability to help those who can't help themselves, you should do so."
“Wise words from someone so young," T'Challa said. "But it does raise another question.
"what?"
"Is getting involved in a war a responsibility or something else?"
……
In another part of the base, most of the top Republic officials, including Captain America, Black Widow, Falcon, and War Machine, stood around a large holographic table that was projecting a map of the surrounding area.
"We've lost ground on multiple fronts." Kenobi said, frowning. "At this point, it's primarily Ultron's forces that have driven us out of Jabiim's northern hemisphere. Eighteen Jedi Knights and nine thousand clone troopers have died in the battle.
"The Force..." Dai muttered in amazement.
“Reports are circulating that the Nationalists are in complete disarray,” Leska said. “It appears that Stratus has disappeared, and he is likely dead.”
"Where was he last seen?" War Machine asked.
"Jor City," Anakin said.
"Well, then he's dead," Falcon muttered.
"So what now?" Black Widow asked. "Look at it...we are all that's left of the Republic.
"We need to start preparing for our own evacuation." War Machine said, tapping his fist on the table. "We don't have a lot of supplies here, and if we don't get out now, Ultron will swoop in on this place and wipe us off the map."
"How long can we hold out?" Anakin asked.
"As soon as we can," Steve said. "We need to start preparing to pack up and get out of here. The fleet in orbit is taking a beating, and we can't stay here any longer."
"Give the order," Ayla said very seriously. "Begin preparations for evacuation. All soldiers, pack up everything. We are leaving."
No one argued with her as they quickly dispersed through the base.
Anakin walked down the hallway with Steve and Black Widow.
"Where's Ahsoka?" Steve asked as they walked quickly down the hallway.
"She's with Barriss and the other Padawans," Anakin said.
"Padawan? How did they get that name?" Black Widow asked.
"All of their Masters are dead." Anakin said in a somber tone. "Apparently the Council thought it would be a better idea to keep them together rather than re-scatter them to other Masters. They can learn from each other.
Speaking of Padawan…
A female Falleen rested against a crate, her gaze far away. Nearby were some of her companions, who had been stationed on the planet before Ultron's arrival.
Honestly, she was glad it was raining right now, as it helped to hide the tears streaming down her face. The news of her master's death had recently reached her, and it was hard to keep things together. Her hands, both organic and synthetic, were clenched together rather fiercely, and the owner of both hands seemed to feel no pain.
Master Glaive was the only one who could teach her properly, as no one else could get through to her. Now that Glaive is dead, there may not be another person who can teach her like he did.
"Mai is the only one of us who has been considered for knighthood, and this is his first war."
"None of us are knights, Zuler." A dark-skinned human male said to the female Faline. "My uncle Nico, he was a true Jedi Master. All of us combined can barely match his strength, wisdom, and will.
"If we don't leave this planet, we may not live to become knights," said Elora Sand.
"Given the presence of our new allies, we may have a chance," said a male Padawan named Vindo Nand.
Hope was becoming increasingly slim as their masters had died one after another.
In another part of the Sanctuary base, Mark Lotor - a human male Padawan - was working on a long-range scanner with his girlfriend, Cass Todd.
"Is there anything on the scanner, Mark?"
“Nothing. It’s disturbing.
“For all we know, the system could be overwhelmed.
"No, I've been trying to keep it as dry as possible, there's nothing wrong with the system."
"Perhaps the enemy is just on a routine patrol out of scanner range." Cas simply exhaled tiredly. "How I wish we could be sure of that."
The two looked at each other, gazing into each other's eyes. They were tired, scared, and ultimately worried.
“Mark…” Cas’s voice was barely audible. “If we don’t—”
She fell silent as Mark grabbed her hand and pulled her close to him.
"Nothing is certain..." Mark said softly. "Except the Force."
“And death,” Cas whispered.
The two moved closer, almost touching each other's faces.
"And my feelings for you."
With that said, Mark pulled Cass in and kissed her like this could be their last day.
Cas held him close, moaning softly and kissing him, neither of them feeling anything but this moment.
Which was a shame, because they didn't notice another Jedi approaching them.
"Mark, Cas, you—"
The two Padavas immediately pulled away, eyes widening as they saw Barriss Offee standing there, mouths agape in shock.
The two were stunned by her sudden appearance.
"You—you two—"
Cas tried to calmly talk to the newcomer in a calm manner. "Barris, please—"
"But you two, are..." Mirialan clenched his fists tightly. "You know the rules forbid this."
"We don't care." Cass was surprised at how quickly she fought back. "We've known each other since we were kids."
"Barris, I love her as much as she loves me," Mark admitted. "Not a day goes by when I don't worry about her safety. Would you feel the same way about someone you truly care about?"
Barriss didn't know how to react. She could feel it in the Force.
The undying affection they have for each other. It's so pure and real.
"But you all know that the Jedi would not allow such a relationship. Barriss whispered rather frustratedly.
Nothing was said between the three until Cass spoke in such a low voice the other two could barely hear her.
"Then let's leave."
Parris was stunned by this statement. She had never even thought that someone would say such a thing.
The seemingly tense atmosphere was broken when a nearby scanner sounded.
