Marvel crosses Star Wars, and everyone attacks the galaxy
Chapter 190: Weird Rebellion
Inside the room, Ahsoka tossed and turned in her bed. She tried to fall asleep, but it was proving difficult. As she tossed and turned again, she saw Barris lying motionless in his bed. Spider-Man was hanging from his makeshift hammock, dozing lazily.
She stared at the Mirialan Jedi, who had his eyes closed, until...
"What? What's wrong?" Barris began, knowing her friend was staring at her.
"It's so quiet," Ahsoka lamented. "After all those explosions and blasting, this quiet is just too much.
"You should enjoy this hard-earned moment of peace."
"Why are you two awake?"
Both girls looked up and saw Spider-Man was still laying in the hammock, though he wasn't moving that much.
"Is it because of the movie just now?"
"no."
"Maybe."
"Maybe?"
Barris could only look away. "That movie was... something.
"I know. When I first saw it a few years ago, I couldn't sleep at all that night. Spider-Man sat up and jumped out of the hammock. "Well, since you two obviously didn't sleep."
"We didn't mean to bother you, Peter," Barris said apologetically.
"Yeah, go back to sleep if you want." Ahsoka said.
"No." Spider-Man waved his hand, "Besides, I need to make some webs."
"Want a midnight snack?" Ahsoka suggested.
"Sure," Spider-Man said lightly, rubbing his eyes as he grabbed a small bag containing vials and ingredients he would use to make more web fluid.
The three walked out and chatted for a while. They passed through a separate corridor leading to the clone barracks. Scythe spotted them, but he was not seen. Scythe looked back in the direction he came from, opened the clone barracks and walked in.
……
Ahsoka, Barris, and Spider-Man sat in the cafeteria, the table they sat at had the only light in the room.
The two girls sat at opposite ends of the Spider-Man.
As the girls ate, Spider-Man stirred a mixture in a vial, and the liquid inside slowly solidified.
"I was thinking about what you said before, about enjoying the peace while it lasts." Ahsoka said after taking a bite of her food. "As a Jedi, I'm not sure I know how to do that.
"Probably because you entered your Padawan phase at the worst possible time." Spider-Man said. "If this war wasn't happening then you probably would have enjoyed more 'peaceful' times with the occasional mission and skirmish to resolve."
"Maybe." Barris muttered. "Master Windu said that we are guardians of peace, not warriors. Once the war is over, it will be our job to maintain peace again.
Spider-Man tilted his head and turned away. "But if you're peacekeepers, doesn't that also make you fighters in some way?"
"We're trained and know how to fight in all kinds of combat," Ahsoka muttered.
"Once the war is over, our job is to keep the peace," Barris said firmly.
"Yes, but are we protectors of the peace or warriors?" Ahsoka asked. "What's the difference?"
"I don't have a good answer, Ahsoka," Barriss said. "Like you, I am a learner. What did your master tell you?
"Anakin? Oh, well, you might find some of his ideas for the future, uh, a little radical.
"Really? Why?
“All we can say is that my Master always does what needs to be done. I’m not even sure how I would agree with him in peacetime.
"Well, peace can only last so long." Spider-Man said. "Like our Earth, there's always something going on."
"Why?" Barris asked.
Spider-Man shrugged. "Oh, you know. Crime everywhere, maybe a war somewhere in the world, maybe not. The occasional Doomsday-type threat. Spider-Man paused. "Though… when I really think about it, we've been getting a lot of that lately.
Ahsoka blinked, and found herself unexpectedly laughing a moment later. "Sounds like a nightmare."
Spider-Man grinned for a moment. "It seems to me... I don't really know, but maybe it will never end.
Barriss and Ahsoka exchanged a look. This was completely different.
"What do you mean?" Barris asked and Spider-Man raised his arms.
"Well, to be honest, I don't know either," he said matter-of-factly. "A few weeks ago, I should have been worrying about my next exam in high school. Now I'm somewhere else in the universe, far away from home.
“…That wouldn’t be too bad, would it?
After a pause, Spider-Man showed a wry smile on his face.
“No, it’s not that bad,” he said. “Admittedly, it’s always been a dream of mine to go to space and see other planets and worlds.
Then he gave the two girls a pleasant smile. "Maybe you'll make some great new friends, too."
At this the two Padavas smiled slightly. Then, momentarily distracted by a strange sound, they glanced at the beaker and saw that it was filled with webbing.
Spider-Man grinned and began storing his newly created webs into boxes.
"Honestly, Peter, it's one thing to hear you talk about your scientific knowledge, but to see it..." Barris trailed off, impressed by his work.
"You should see Mr. Starks' work," Spider-Man said, patting the spider emblem on his chest. "He made this suit for me."
Ahsoka hummed in interest, though her thoughts went back to an earlier remark made by her Earthling friend.
"Peter."
"Ok?"
“Do you really believe what you just said? Is there more to do after the war?
Spider-Man paused in storing his webs, frowned slightly, and continued.
“We have to do this,” he said, quite solemnly. “It’s…it’s part of our responsibility. It’s what we have to do.
Ahsoka and Barriss exchanged confused looks. This was certainly not the usual banter.
"Peter," Barris said slowly. "Why do you think it's our responsibility?"
Spider-Man was about to respond when the cafeteria door opened and he looked back to see several clones.
Ahsoka looked up and smiled.
"Scythe, Evening, Edge." Ahsoka greeted. "Care to join us?"
As he watched them, Spider-Man suddenly felt a tingling sensation creeping up his head, as if something was wrong. Really wrong.
"Uh... guys?" Spider-Man said cautiously. "Everything- wooo!"
Two clones stepped forward and began firing at the trio, the teens leaping back, Barriss and Ahsoka igniting their lightsabers while Spider-Man leaped high into the air.
"Soldiers, stop!" Ahsoka ordered, backing out before turning the table.
"I don't think they volunteered!" Spider-Man shouted from the ceiling, firing two webs at the soldiers.
Spider-Man grabbed the soldiers' guns and ripped them out of their hands, giving Ahsoka and Barris the opportunity to force them against the wall, knocking them both unconscious.
As they got closer, Barriss swung her lightsaber, cleaving away the blaster fire in case the clones woke up too soon.
Suddenly, the door behind them opened again and two more clones came in with blasters pointed at them. Out of reflex, Spider-Man fired web shots at the clones' hands and the wall beside them as both struggled to free themselves.
"Peter, what are you doing?!" Havoc yelled, pulling futilely at his web restraints.
"You tell us." Spider-Man said, his eyes narrowed. "Your brother just attacked us for no reason?"
"What's going on?" Ahsoka asked.
Barris then continued the interrogation. "Trap, do you know what happened to those soldiers?"
"I don't know, Commander," Trap responded. "I'm just as confused as you are—"
"Did you organize those people?" Barris exclaimed. "Did you order them to kill us?"
"No, sir. I didn't!
“What happened? Why are they doing this?
“We don’t know. We heard gunshots,” Havoc told the three teenagers.
"Why should we trust you?"
"Look." Trap pointed to his stuck hand. "You disarmed us. We have no intention of harming any of you.
"My hand must be hurting right now though," Havoc muttered, causing Spider-Man to frown slightly.
"Why are they attacking us like this?" Spider-Man asked, walking over to the trapped clones and pulling them off with ease.
"Did you see the way they looked at us?" Ahsoka wondered. "That's really weird."
"Hmm." Spider-Man muttered, looking down at the unconscious clone. "Those are some killable looks."
"They don't attack us for no reason," Barris said.
Ahsoka gnashed her teeth quickly. "Before I first met them, my Master once had a clone that betrayed him and Obi-Wan. A traitor who was bought by Ventress.
"No, it can't be that simple. At least, it doesn't feel that way." Barris curled his lips.
“I’m sorry, sir.” Trap began. “We should make sure we still have control of this ship.
Barris nodded and raised the communicator on his wrist. "Bridge, this is Barris. Please respond.
No one speaks.
"Oh... this is nothing like the movie we just watched. Spider-Man said with a confused look on his face.
That earned him a flick from Ahsoka's forehead in annoyance.
"We need to go up there," Ahsoka announced. "See what's going on."
"But what about these two?" Barris gestured to the clone. "They could wake up any minute now."
"I'll take care of it." Spider-Man quickly fired a barrage of webs at the unconscious clones, as they were now in a cocoon with only their heads seeming to be able to move freely.
"Well done, Peter," Barris praised.
"That'll last an hour. Hopefully that's enough time to figure out what's going on.
"Havoc, stay here just in case." Trap warned. "Don't take any risks."
"Will not."
As the others left, Havoc stepped aside to stand guard.
