Farewell Flower Festival

Chapter 58: Give up

At dawn the next day, Chao Yan left a note for Feicui and Amber and went out alone.

The morning mist on the street had not yet dissipated. Wisps of mist were like thin spider silk, entangled with tiny dewdrops and hung on Chaoyan's hair. She did not notice that the hair on her forehead had been soaked with dewdrops, nor did she notice that there were tiny water droplets on her eyelashes.

There was only one thought in her mind, to get clear.

When the first ray of morning light rose from the horizon, Chao Yan stood at the gate of Prince Ling's Mansion.

As soon as the two servants opened the door, they saw a figure standing at the door. When they saw that it was Chao Yan, they were a little surprised.

"Let His Highness come out to see me."

Seeing that she was about to start a war to hold someone accountable, a servant quickly went to inform Eunuch Wu. Then Eunuch Wu came over and asked Chaoyan to come in and talk, but she insisted on waiting for someone at the door.

After Mu Tianling came over, Eunuch Wu took everyone away and let the two talk alone.

"Why are you here so early? Is there something urgent?" Mu Tianling asked.

Chao Yan clenched her fists and decided to give up or go all the way. She asked bluntly, "Your Highness, will you marry me?"

Mu Tianling was stunned. He had never expected to hear such an opening remark. It was like being struck by a sudden lightning. His heart was trembling. An uncontrollable impulse surged from the bottom of his heart, mixed with revelry and joy...

Time passed minute by minute, Chao Yan waited patiently for his answer. Seeing his wooden look, it seemed that he was quite frightened. But now was not the time to back down. Since he asked, he had to get it clear. Either give up or go all the way to the end.

After a long while, Mu Tianling came back to his senses, turned his face to the side, restrained his emotions, and asked, "Do you really want to marry me?" When he asked this question, his eyes wandered elsewhere. He seemed afraid to look at Chao Yan's face, but wanted to see a positive answer from her eyes, but didn't dare to. This should be the first time he experienced such a helpless moment, like a novice who is just beginning to learn how to fall in love.

Chao Yan was also nervous. In fact, if there was a heart rate monitor right now, her heart rate would probably be 180. She tried hard to control her inner nervousness and excitement and asked the most crucial question, "Your Highness, can you only marry me?"

After asking this question, her heartbeat soared again and she felt like she was almost short of oxygen. There seemed to be a buzzing sound in her head and ears. She felt like she was about to faint, so she immediately took a few deep breaths to make herself stronger.

She looked at him expectantly, hoping for a positive answer for the first time, but he avoided her gaze.

The answer suddenly appeared clearly in front of her, and her heart suddenly turned cold.

God knows how much struggle she went through before deciding to take this risk, but in the end she lost the bet.

"I understand. I wish Your Highness will get married soon." Chao Yan turned around to leave, but was stopped by Mu Tianling. He asked, "If you are the only one in my heart, isn't that enough?" She replied, "Not enough." She shook off his hand and ran forward with all her strength. This time she finally gave up.

......

A figure suddenly rushed out from the intersection. The coachman was so frightened that his face changed drastically. He hurriedly pulled the reins, causing the carriage to shake and a frightened scream of a girl was heard from inside.

A woman's voice came from the carriage again, quiet and steady.

"What happened?"

The driver replied that a girl suddenly rushed out at the intersection and he almost hit her.

The curtain of the car was suddenly lifted open, and a young girl stuck her head out to look out with an angry look on her face. Seeing the culprit fall to the ground, she asked the guards to catch him so that she could teach him a lesson.

Chaoyan fell to the ground, looking distraught. The next moment, she was lifted up by a pair of hands, and Han Lie's voice sounded in her ears.

"This is the capital. Who gave you the guts to arrest people at will?"

The young girl got off the carriage with the help of her maid, walked over arrogantly and said, "I had you arrested by my order. Who are you to dare to go against me?" She glanced at Chao Yan's face. She was so beautiful that she found it very annoying. She pretended to look pitiful, which made her even more disgusted.

Han Lie smiled slightly and said, "Even if you are the princess, you can't just arrest people casually." At this point, his eyes suddenly became cold and his voice became cold, "Besides, he is my man."

Shen Xue was frightened by his eyes, but she was unwilling to let Chao Yan go easily, so she revealed her father's identity, "My father is King Xiaoyao, who just won a victory. If you dare to go against me, my father will never forgive you."

"Then Princess, please go back and complain to the prince."

Han Lie was about to leave with Chao Yan, but Shen Xue angrily asked him to stop and asked the guards to take both of them back for punishment. The woman in the carriage stopped her.

"Xue'er, don't make a fuss."

Shen Xue said something harsh, asking the two of them to be careful, and that if they ran into her again, they would be in big trouble. Then she returned to the carriage, and the coachman drove away.

"This little princess has a really bad temper. She's nothing like the late princess." Han Lie teased. He looked down and saw Chao Yan's eyes widened, as if she had seen or heard something terrifying. He took her to sit at the stall next to them and asked the boss to cook two bowls of wontons.

Chaoyan sat on the stool without saying a word, and Han Lie sat opposite her without asking anything.

The boss brought two bowls of wontons and placed them on the table. Han Lie asked her to eat something first, but she still said nothing.

"Have you had a showdown with His Majesty the Fourth Prince?"

Chaoyan finally reacted and glared at Han Lie.

"It's not like no one wants you, so why do you want to starve yourself to death?"

Han Lie picked up the spoon and handed it to her. Chao Yan snatched it away and ate one wonton at a time, seemingly trying to fill her inner grief with food. She asked the boss to cook another bowl before she finished the one. Han Lie told the boss that it was not necessary and put the bowl of wontons in front of her.

"That princess is the youngest daughter of King Xiaoyao. She disappeared before?" Chao Yan said the first sentence.

"I heard that the child was taken away by the former steward of the palace," Han Lie smiled, "Who knows if it's true or not? A steward of the palace is not short of money. What good can he get from taking the child away? Either he is a fool, or he is being used by someone."

Chao Yan continued to ask: "Didn't the late princess pass away? Then who was sitting in the carriage?

"Why is Xiao Lianzi so interested in King Xiaoyao's family affairs?" Han Lie asked with a smile.

Chao Yan stopped talking again.

Han Lie smiled helplessly and said, "Two years ago, King Xiaoyao married a new princess. The one sitting in the carriage should be this princess."

Chao Yan fell into deep thought. If she heard correctly, the princess' voice was very similar to the woman's voice in the dream. Was it a coincidence? But her intuition told her that it was not a coincidence. If the woman in the dream was really the new princess, then who was the other man? Was it the missing housekeeper? What about her life experience...

"I want to see the princess."

It was the first time that Han Lie saw Chao Yan with such a solemn and serious expression. He said that he could help her check the background of the princess first, and then find a chance to arrange a meeting for her.
