Fantasy Game: Infinite City
Chapter 25 Acting
15th floor, outside Mr. S’s room.
Miss A and Miss B opened the door with the key and walked in.
The furnishings inside were no different from those of an ordinary hotel room. At the entrance was a foyer and a shoe cabinet, a little further forward was the bathroom, and further in was a double bed. Opposite the bed was a sofa with an open suitcase on it. In the suitcase were some documents and some props that looked like they were used for magic.
There is a TV in front of the sofa, it is on and the news is being broadcasted. There are a few newspapers under the TV cabinet, the newspapers are very new, but the time on the TV does not match the time on the TV, the newspapers seem to be from last month.
A was checking the documents in the suitcase while B was searching the room. After a careful search, he did not find anything valuable, so he sat down on the sofa and started talking to A who was checking the documents.
"What did you find?"
"Most of these documents are about the principles and performance methods of magic and tricks. There's nothing special about them. However, there are some numbers in the lower right corner of each page. They have no order or rules. They should have some function, but I can't think of what they are for now."
"Where are the newspapers?"
"It's just an ordinary newspaper, nothing special. Would you like to take a look?"
After taking the newspapers, it was indeed as Miss A said, there was nothing special on them. However, one thing caught Miss B's attention. She found a crossword puzzle at the end of each newspaper. It looked normal because there were usually some educational games at the end of the newspaper, either Sudoku or crossword puzzles.
"I noticed that these newspapers are all from the same newspaper company, the layout of the newspapers is exactly the same, and there are crossword puzzles at the end, which may be a clue."
"But apart from the numbers at the footer, there is no connection between those documents and the crossword puzzles..."
Having no clue, the two sat on the sofa, looking at newspapers and documents, thinking about clues.
Soon, an idea flashed in her mind. Looking at the TV broadcasting the news, Miss A thought of a possibility.
"Hand me the TV remote."
"Give."
Taking the remote control, Miss A entered the number in the file footer on the remote control and changed the channel.
Without exception, the names of all channels contained one or two letters. By writing down these letters and comparing them with several crossword puzzles, A discovered the connection between these clues.
Using these letters, A and B completed most of the crossword puzzles. There was a blank word on the crossword puzzle in each newspaper. By reorganizing the words, the two got a sentence.
"Gold hide in my dream, gold hide in my dream? What does this mean?"
"It might be a code word used to record clues. Let me think about it...it might be related to the bed. Let's look for it."
I searched the bed in the room carefully, including the bedding and pillows on it, as well as the space under the bed, but found nothing. I took apart the pillows and quilt, but there was nothing inside either. It seemed that the clue was broken.
"No, why is there only one pillow on the bed?"
"Maybe it's because Mr. S is the only one living in the room?"
"No, the arrangement of the items here is consistent with that of a normal hotel room service staff. After the room service staff cleans the room, it is absolutely impossible for them to leave the TV on. When we entered the room just now, the room was locked, and although the suitcase on the sofa was open, the items inside were neatly arranged, which means that the owner of the suitcase was called away before he had time to close the suitcase. So I think that Mr. S had just returned to the room after the room was cleaned and was called away not long after."
"You mean to say that Mr. S hid the secret in one of the pillows and then left in a hurry?"
"That's possible, but I just searched the room and didn't find another pillow. Is it possible that he is hiding somewhere else?"
"It's unlikely. I'm more inclined to think that he's hiding in the room. Let's look for him again."
After searching the room again, Miss B lifted up the sofa cushion and saw something unusual. There seemed to be a small space under the sofa frame, and the board covering it collapsed a little, probably because two people had just sat on it.
"There's a secret compartment here!"
"open to take a look."
After prying open the sofa, I found a pillow tied with a rope inside. I took out the pillow and opened it. In an inconspicuous place on the inside of the pillowcase, I found a four-digit phone number. It should be a landline in the building.
I called the phone on the wall next to the entrance, and heard a repeating recording on the other end. The recording only had a few short sentences.
"Room Q33, the key is behind time."
After getting the information, A and B quickly went to room Q33, which was a storage room on the 17th floor. The door of the storage room was not locked. There were only some cleaning supplies inside. There was a clock that could be seen everywhere in the building hanging right above the door frame in the room, but the clock was stopped.
Take off the clock and open the battery casing. Where the battery should have been, there is a keychain with a key hanging on it, as well as a long metal access card the size of a gumball.
"It seems we have to find a place where the access card can be opened first."
After putting away the key chain, A and B prepared to leave the storage room, but they heard a sound outside. The two of them quietly closed the door of the storage room, hid on both sides of the door, and observed secretly.
"Ding~"
The elevator door on the 17th floor opened, and Han Zu walked out of the elevator. He looked up at the corner of the ceiling and was surprised to see no surveillance camera. He stretched out his hand to block the elevator door that was about to close, and looked out. There was no camera in the elevator either.
“It provides me with a lot of convenience.”
After looking at the sign next to the elevator, Han Zu walked towards the switchboard room and left.
After Han Zu left, A and B waited for a while and left the storage room. Since they did not see Han Zu, they went down the stairs and quickly returned to Mr. S's room and locked the door.
In front of the switchboard room on the 17th floor, Han Zu took off his mask, pinned it on his waist, reached into his suit pocket, took out a pistol with a suppressor, checked the status of the pistol, and after confirming that it was correct, he opened the safety, hid his hand holding the gun behind his waist, and knocked on the door of the switchboard room with his other hand.
"Knock knock knock."
"Hello, what can I do for you?"
"I'm looking for my room, Room N35. It's my first time here and I'm a little lost."
Another computer room worker with a rabbit head walked out of the room. He looked a little tired, but still politely told Han Zu the location of the room he had made up.
Han Zu chatted with him for a few words and took the opportunity to observe the switchboard room.
The main computer room was much smaller than expected, with several rows of servers inside. In addition to the rabbit head that was talking to Han Zu, there were two or three other people inside. The one thing they had in common was that they all had rabbit heads.
None of them had work cards hanging on their chests, so it seemed that Han Zu needed to find other employees.
"Thank you. By the way, do you know which floor the housekeeping office is on? There was a problem with my reservation information and I need to modify it."
"The housekeeping department's office is downstairs, in the same location as the switchboard room."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome sir."
After waiting for the rabbit head to go back, the door of the switchboard room was closed. Han Zu waited for a while and confirmed that there was no one around. Han Zu left and threw his mask into a trash can when passing by it.
Han Zu stroked the whiskers on his tiger head, put the pistol back into his suit pocket, and went to the 16th floor where the guest room department was located through the stairwell.
The 16th floor was much more lively than other floors. You could see some scattered people talking to each other. All of them had animal brains. Through their behaviors, Han Zu simply sorted out some rules.
People with rabbit heads should be the lowest-ranking employees in the building. They do the most basic work. People with bird heads are also employees in the building, but their status is much higher. People with herbivore heads seem to have a similar status to birds, but they don't seem to be employees. However, it is possible that the work they are responsible for is more special.
He had never seen anyone like Han Zu, who had a carnivore's head, but the people around him did not feel strange about his appearance, which showed that this kind of people were very common.
Han Zu stopped a Miss Rabbit and asked her about the location of the housekeeping department. Miss Rabbit politely told Han Zu the location of the housekeeping department office.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome sir."
Following the instructions, Han Zu came to the housekeeping department's office and behaved normally. He walked through the door and checked the corner of the ceiling. Similarly, there were no surveillance cameras here.
Han Zu walked to the public restroom on this floor, found a cubicle and hid in it, listening to the noise outside.
After a few hours, the sound of the crowd talking outside gradually died down. Han Zu walked out of the cubicle, went to the sink, turned on a faucet, and pretended to fix his hair in front of the mirror.
After it was quiet outside, Han Zu turned off the faucet and left the bathroom.
There was no one else in the corridor. To be on the safe side, Han Zu walked around the floor. After making sure that there was no one in the corridor, Han Zu came to the door of the housekeeping department office. Han Zu did not take out the pistol from his pocket. He straightened his suit and knocked on the door.
"Knock knock knock."
"Hello, what can I do for you?"
"There was something wrong with my reservation information. I booked a presidential suite, but the front desk told me that my room was changed to an ordinary deluxe suite. I need an explanation."
"I'm so sorry sir, please come in first, you can wait on the sofa for a while, I will take care of it for you right away."
Led by a woman who was the head of Raven, Han Zu walked into the office. There were not many people in the office. Including the woman, there were only three or four employees. They were at their workstations, packing up their things, and leaving the office one after another. Looking at the clock on the wall, it should be time to get off work. Soon, Miss Raven and Han Zu were the only ones left in the room.
Miss Raven picked up the phone. Judging from her reserved tone, the person on the other end of the line should be her boss, or a not-so-friendly guest.
While Miss Raven was on the phone, Han Zu stood up and pretended to stretch, but in fact he was observing other people's workstations. Fortunately, a careless person left his work card on the table. While Miss Raven was not paying attention, Han Zu put the work card into his pocket and sat back on the sofa.
"I'm so sorry sir, another customer had some problems earlier."
"It's okay. I saw that it's time to get off work. I won't be a spoilsport. I'll come again tomorrow."
"Thank you for your understanding sir!"
Miss Raven looked very happy and returned to her workstation to pack her things. Han Zu left here, came to the elevator, pressed the button, and waited for the elevator.
However, the arrival of another elevator attracted his attention. He hid in the stairwell next to it, took out his pistol, hid behind the door, and observed out through the crack.
"Ding~"
The elevator door opened and a person walked out. Due to limited vision, Han Zu couldn't see her face clearly, but from the outline of her body, he could tell that she should be a woman.
Miss Raven from the housekeeping department just walked to the elevator with some documents and met this woman.
"Oh! Second Miss! Hello!"
Miss Raven bowed to the woman and the documents she was holding fell to the ground. Miss Raven hurriedly picked up the scattered documents. The woman squatted down and helped Miss Raven pack up her documents.
"Be careful next time."
"understood!"
"Go back and rest."
"Goodbye, Second Miss!"
Miss Raven got on the elevator, which closed and headed to other floors.
The woman didn't seem to be in a hurry. She took out a box of cigarettes from her pocket, took out a cigarette and started smoking, then walked somewhere in the corridor.
"It seems that this woman has a high status in this building. I should be able to get some useful information from her. I didn't expect this to be a family business."
After thinking for a while, Han Zu left the stairwell of the hiding place, holding a pistol, and quietly followed the woman.
The woman walked to the end of the corridor and stopped. Han Zu hid behind a wall, stuck his head out, and quietly observed the woman's movements.
The woman looked around and made sure that there was no one around. She took out a pair of gloves from her pocket, put them on her hands, and reached out to an oil painting hanging on the wall. She reached behind the frame and fumbled for something. When she found what she wanted, she turned around and walked towards Han Zu with the thing in her hand.
Han Zu hid behind the wall, holding the pistol tightly in front of his chest, aiming in advance at the position where the head might appear. If the woman found him and was about to do something, Han Zu would shoot without hesitation.
However, the woman's target was not Han Zu, but a room diagonally opposite Han Zu. The woman seemed a little nervous, and she did not notice Han Zu who was so close.
"Drip."
The woman swiped the identifier on the door with the thing she had just found and opened the door. There seemed to be no one inside, so she walked in. However, as if because she was nervous, she did not close the door completely, leaving a gap.
Han Zu lowered his footsteps and saw through the crack in the door that the room was dark and the curtains were drawn. The woman was searching for something in the dark room, and she was very focused. So Han Zu quietly opened the door, walked in, and closed the door from the inside. He pressed his finger on the door lock and locked the door without making any sound.
With his back against the locked door, Han Zu stood up straight, blocking the only exit of the room. He grasped the wrist of his left hand holding the gun with his right hand, placed his hands on his waist, and quietly observed the woman's movements in the dark.
"Damn it! Isn't it here?"
The woman was a little anxious, but in order to keep quiet, she quickly closed her mouth and continued to search in the dark.
Soon, she felt something in the gap between the sofa.
"Please, it must be the one I'm looking for!"
The woman took out her cell phone, slowly took out the thing she had touched from the gap in the sofa, turned on the light of her cell phone, and shone it on the thing she had found.
A severed hand.
"Yes! It's done!"
Putting the severed hand in her pocket, turning off her cell phone and putting it in her trouser pocket, the woman slowly put the sofa back to its original state. After she finished cleaning up, she turned around and prepared to leave the room. After taking only two steps, she discovered that in the darkness at the door, there was a man holding a pistol with a suppressor, just looking at her quietly. The woman then realized that she was being followed and she was completely unaware of it.
The man raised his gun, but instead of pointing it at himself, he pointed at the sofa next to him. The woman raised her hands, thinking of a countermeasure.
The man turned on the light in the room, and the woman saw his appearance clearly, a man with a tiger's head.
Han Zu also saw the face of the woman in front of him clearly, and there was actually a phoenix on her head.
"Do you have time to talk, Ms. Phoenix?"
"I do not..."
"Click."
Miss Phoenix heard the sound of the hammer being struck.
"I don't have...problems."
