Fantasy Game: Infinite City

Chapter 15 Mutation (Page 13)

"World loading completed"

"Number of players: 5"

"Difficulty: Difficult"

Before the system prompt finished telling the basic information about the copy, problems suddenly occurred on the system panel, as if it had been strongly interfered with. Amid the noisy sound of electricity, the system panel flashed red and issued a warning.

"System abnormality, forcibly ending the game..."

"Failed to end the game, forcing the player to quit..."

"Exit failed, number of players remaining: 2, trying..."

"Warning????Warning????System crash, system..."

The system was forced offline. After more than ten minutes, the system restarted accompanied by the official background music of Infinite City. However, the electronic sound that came again sounded very stiff.

"Number of players: 2"

"Difficulty: Instant Death"

"Welcome to Despair Town"

There is no extraneous information.

From Han Zu's perspective, he was locked in a huge iron cage. Strangely, he seemed to be looking at his body from a third-person perspective, as if his soul had left his body and he had no control over it. He seemed to have fallen into a deep sleep in the cage.

A dozen people were carrying a huge iron cage and walking towards a church. There were crowds of people surrounding them. Their faces were filled with smiles and they were singing songs that sounded like they were related to some religion. Without exception, everyone was wearing simple linen robes, straw sandals on their feet, and nothing under the robes. A ceremonial dagger and a scripture were hung around their waists. If Han Zu hadn't seen some cars parked outside the church, he would have thought he had come to the Middle Ages. However, judging from the shape of those cars, the timeline of this copy should be around 2000.

The crowd carried the iron cage into the church. Right in front of the bulletin board, in the center of the church, was a huge ramp that led down to the walls on both sides. Incandescent lamps were hung on the walls, and the bulbs were covered with dirt, making the light look strange.

At the end of the ramp is a mine. The mine is very large, as if it was dug by a tunnel boring machine. The crowd continued to walk, carrying an iron cage, and the singing in their mouths echoed in the empty cave, sounding a bit creepy.

At the deepest part of the mine, there was a huge pool filled with emerald green liquid. The liquid was very smooth and not as sticky as it looked. The crowd opened the cage, lifted Han Zu's body out, took off his clothes, and put him into the pool. The pool was very deep, and Han Zu knelt in the center of the pool. The emerald green liquid reached his collarbone.

Someone in the crowd took out a strong and thick chain, locked Han Zu's wrists, and hung his arms up, and then used an even stronger chain to lock Han Zu's neck to the anchor point under the pool. The few people who entered the pool to complete this task came into contact with the emerald green liquid and their bodies began to slowly decompose, revealing their flesh and blood. However, these people still had smiles on their faces and sang songs loudly until their bodies were completely decomposed and became part of the pool. The strange thing was that their linen robes, ceremonial daggers, straw sandals, and scriptures were not damaged at all, except that they were wet.

Someone in the crowd on the shore brought a scoop net and fished up the remains of those people. After that, the crowd took off their clothes, knelt naked in front of Han Zu, who was chained in the pool, and kowtowed nine times. The religious songs in their mouths never stopped, but became louder and louder.

After the worship, a few people walked out from the naked crowd, both men and women, but they all looked like they had just reached adulthood. They knelt on the shore, opened their arms, and waited for something.

Behind each of them, two people holding ritual daggers appeared and carved strange blasphemous symbols on their naked bodies. Blood flowed out of the wounds. After carving the symbols, they bit the ritual daggers in their mouths and jumped into the pool without hesitation, swimming towards Han Zu's body in the center of the pool. It was strange that although their bodies were not decomposed, the blood flowing from them was eaten up by the emerald green liquid in the pool. They successfully swam to Han Zu's side and tried to carve the same strange blasphemous symbols on Han Zu's arms and forehead that were exposed to the liquid. Of course, they all failed.

After the last person's attempt failed, the singing of the crowd on the shore stopped abruptly. Several people temporarily left the mine, and a few minutes later, they came back carrying several old wooden boxes.

When the wooden box was opened, it was filled with some handmade crossbows and some crossbow arrows that seemed to be made from the bones of some animals. After the crossbow arrows were loaded, several people holding the crossbows aimed them at the young people in the pool.

The young people threw their daggers onto the shore and continued to sing with smiles on their faces. Suddenly, crossbows were fired from the shore, piercing their heads accurately. One by one, they lost their lives and their bodies floated in the pool. The emerald green liquid slowly dragged their bodies down and decomposed them.

One or two young men seemed to still have consciousness. They dodged the crossbow attacks in the pool. In order to survive, they swam behind Han Zu. Sure enough, the people on the shore stopped shooting.

Just when the survivors thought they could survive, many bubbles appeared from various locations under the pool, the liquid was fluctuating, and something was swimming quickly underneath.

They were creatures that were similar in size to spotted hyenas.

They are no different from ordinary spotted hyenas except that they are slightly larger in size, but for some reason, they seem to be able to breathe freely in this strange emerald green liquid and swim quickly in it. They will not be decomposed by this liquid.

Those hyena-like creatures quickly surrounded the few survivors, rushed forward, tore them into pieces, and swallowed them into their stomachs. I don’t know if it was an illusion, but after devouring those survivors, their fur became more oily.

They acted differently from when they devoured their prey. After smelling Han Zu's scent, they acted coquettishly and affectionately, rubbing their heads against Han Zu's body and gathering around him. Judging from their number, there were about a dozen of them.

After the survivors died, the people on the shore put on their clothes, smiled again on their faces, sang songs, and left.

Not long after they left, Han Zu felt a strong suction force and had to close his eyes. When he opened his eyes again, his consciousness returned to his body and he was able to move.

"Strange metal chains that cannot be broken"

"Mission objective: Help your companions survive"

Looking at the prompt from the system, Han Zu tried to break the chains on his arms, but failed because the chains were very strong.

He then tried to break the chain around his neck, but failed.

Han Zu's legs were powerless, apparently because of this special emerald green liquid. The only part of Han Zu that could move freely now was his head, but he couldn't lift his head, he could only look straight ahead or turn and lower his head.

"It seems that our locations are scattered and the distance should be very far. I must find a way to leave."

Turning his head, Han Zu observed the limited range and thought about countermeasures. It seemed that he was unable to move at the moment.

"Death Hound: This is a creature that looks similar to a spotted hyena. They are extremely dangerous to any living being, but they seem to be unusually close to you, even though this is the first time you have met."

"Ok?"

Looking at the prompts on the system panel, Han Zu lowered his head and looked at the creatures floating around him. Just as the system said, they were very close to Han Zu. When they saw Han Zu wake up, they surrounded him and licked his face gently with their tongues, expressing their closeness and obedience. Of course, if their tongues did not have sharp barbs, this would not hurt Han Zu.

"Well, good dog, my back is a little itchy. If you can understand me... hm?"

Before Han Zu could finish his words, two Death Realm Hounds swam behind him and stretched out their claws to scratch his back. After relieving Han Zu's itch, they swam back in front of him, sticking out their tongues and acting coquettishly, as if they were asking for credit.

"Can you understand what I'm saying? Well, if you can, just put away your tongue and nod your head."

All the Deathhounds put away their tongues and nodded.

It seems that they are quite intelligent.

"Can you help me break the chain around my neck? Or find me some tools."

As soon as he finished speaking, a dozen Death Hounds sank to the bottom of the pool one after another, opened their bloody mouths and bit the chains frantically. Their teeth were so unimaginably strong that they made a harsh friction sound with the chains, and bubbles rose in the liquid.

But they also failed. The chains were extremely strong and could not be broken at all. Han Zu thought it might be the rules of the copy.

The hounds were in low spirits and a little listless, floating quietly around Han Zu.

"Okay, okay, dear dogs, this is not your fault, don't be unhappy"

"Ugh..."

The hounds whimpered pitifully and surrounded Han Zu, turning him into a huge ball of fur.

"Alright, alright! Come here and line up!"

"Ouch?"

Han Zu kissed each of them on the head, which made the depressed hounds lively again and rubbed Han Zu's cheek affectionately.

"It would be nice if I could keep you. You're so quiet and so human. If I could find a way out, I'd try to find a chance to get you out."

Han Zu really likes these cute "little guys", but the most urgent task now is to leave here and find his teammate Lu An.

But now my legs are completely powerless.

"Death Realm Solution: This liquid is being slowly absorbed by you. It can increase the concentration of the Death Realm Gift in your body. The total absorption is expected to reach a concentration of 15%."

The system popped up a prompt.

"It seems that I can't leave here for the time being. I have to think of a way..."

On the other side of Despair Town, in an abandoned hospital.

Lu An locked himself in a room which used to be a VIP ward, and observed the situation outside through the dusty curtains.

Unlike Han Zu, Lu An clearly heard the information about the system abnormality. After her system was restarted, only some basic information was left.

Just like an electronic dictionary downloaded offline.

"Difficulty: Instant Death"

"Mission objective: find a way to survive"

"Special rules: Rebirth times are not effective"

Of course, there is no other information.

When I opened the system interface of Infinite City, it was like it was attacked by Emp. The interface kept fluctuating. I tried to restore the link, but the error message I got was a bunch of different garbled characters.

Her equipment, skills, and props were completely unusable, she couldn't open the map, and she couldn't exit. Only the lonely 3D image of Han Zu told her that Han Zu was the other remaining player, but she couldn't contact him.

"Instant death... It's difficult..."

As far as Lu An knows, there have been three copies of the Infinite City since its appearance. Without exception, no one has survived this difficulty, including some top players who are now on the list. However, because there is a chance of rebirth, it is not that scary.

But this time it’s different, dead is dead.

Lu An tried hard to calm his inner fear and anxiety and thought about countermeasures, but so far he had no idea.

"I have to find a way to survive first, and then find Han Zu. With him, our chances of survival will be much greater."
