Chapter 296 The Triwizard Tournament

"Oh - this is probably not the right time to say this... not the right time..." Dumbledore blinked his blue eyes.

"Where was I? Ah, yes, the Triwizard Tournament... Some of you may not know what this tournament is all about, so I hope those who do know will forgive me for explaining it briefly and allow their minds to wander for a while."

Dumbledore then began to introduce this traditional activity that had been interrupted.

"The Triwizard Tournament was created about seven hundred years ago as a friendly competition between the three largest magic schools in Europe - Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang. Each school selects a champion, and then the three champions compete in three magical disciplines."

"The tournament was held every five years, with the three schools taking turns hosting it. Everyone agreed that it was a great way for young wizards from different countries to build friendships - but later, the death toll was too high, and the Triwizard Tournament was discontinued."

The young wizards didn't pay much attention to the dead people who lived more than a hundred years ago. They were chattering and whispering excitedly.

Of course, people are always confident that such a cruel fate will not happen to them.

"Over the centuries, people have tried many times to revive the Tournament, but none of them have been successful. However, the Department of International Magical Cooperation and the Department of Magical Games and Sports agree that the time is ripe for another attempt. In the past year, we have made many preparations to ensure that no warrior's life will be in danger."

"In October, the headmasters of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang will lead their carefully selected competitors, and the ceremony of selecting the champions will be held on Halloween. An impartial referee will decide which students are most qualified to compete for the Triwizard Cup, win honor for their own schools, and receive a prize of one thousand Galleons."

It was both an honor for the entire school and a huge prize - the purchasing power of one thousand Galleons was enough to buy a brand new flying broomstick in the wizarding world, but it couldn't be the most expensive one like the Firebolt.

If we have to make an analogy, it is probably equivalent to an ordinary luxury car of a Muggle, or something of equivalent value.

This is a huge sum of money for the little wizard and the family behind him.

Even among the Slytherins, whose family conditions were generally considered to be relatively good in the eyes of outsiders, many little snakes cast fanatical eyes on Dumbledore.

Their faces lit up at the prospect of such honor and fortune - and Alison was not alone in fantasizing about becoming a champion representing Hogwarts.

However, when Dumbledore spoke again, the whispered discussions quieted down properly.

"I know you all aspire to win the Triwizard Cup for Hogwarts, but the participating schools and the Ministry have agreed to impose an age limit on this year's competitors. Only students who are seventeen years of age - that is, seventeen and over - will be allowed to apply for consideration. We feel that ..."

Dumbledore raised his voice slightly, because some of the people in the audience, who were originally swept up in enthusiasm and expectation, found their dreams shattered after hearing his words, and could not help but protest angrily.

The Weasley twins protested angrily, but were hit by Alison with a soundproofing spell from a distance.

The old principal cunningly ignored the commotion below, adjusted his half-moon glasses, and pretended nothing had happened.

"This measure is necessary because the events in the competition are still very difficult and dangerous. No matter how many precautions we take, students below the sixth and seventh grades will not be able to handle it..."

He glanced at Alison, who had threatened to cut in line, and swallowed the words he was about to say, "I promise it's okay." However, when the old headmaster's eyes swept across Fred and George's rebellious faces, a meaningful and pleasant light flashed in his clear blue eyes.

"Our impartial judges will verify the age of applicants. Therefore, if you are under the age of seventeen, I ask that you do not waste your time applying."

"The Beauxbatons and Durmstrang delegations will arrive in October and spend most of the school year with us. I know that you will all be cordial and friendly to our foreign guests during their stay here, and that you will support the Hogwarts Champion wholeheartedly once he or she is chosen..."

The old principal thought about it and added a few points.

"Also, regarding the recent new regulations... For those who have learned summoning skills in the practical class, please do not let summoned creatures follow you in the castle - especially the vine summoning that some druids have learned now - that will seriously damage the castle's floor."

"Okay, it's getting late now, and it's very important that you walk into class tomorrow morning refreshed and clear-headed. Go to bed! Quick!"

Most of the animals accepted the proposal and went back with their companions in a lively manner.

However, there were still some Gryffindors who were full of injustice and stayed behind slowly, stubbornly and angrily glaring at Dumbledore who had just announced the age limit in the staff box.

"They can't do that! We'll be seventeen next April, why don't we give it a try?" - George.

"They can't stop me from participating! Once you become a warrior, you can do many things that you are not allowed to do normally, and there is also a bonus of one thousand Galleons!" - Fred.

The twins spoke like a round-robin.

People gradually left, and the few who fell behind stood out.

Alison walked against the flow of people towards the staff seats, obviously not intending to go back to bed just yet.

She glanced disdainfully at the twins who looked unwilling.

The twins also looked at Alison and stopped complaining warily, but their eyes were still defiant and unconvinced, and it was obvious that they were convinced in their hearts.

But faced with this little devil whose strength was suspected to be no less than that of the professors and whose personality was also very bad, the Weasley twins behaved very well and directly pulled the three little ones who were waiting for them nearby away.
