God's Gift

Chapter 261 Evil Spirits

The days that followed passed quickly. Yu Youyou went to Huachunfang to find Lu Keming every day, sat beside him and listened to him play the piano, or took him to the street to buy various things.

Soon, the Waking of Insects passed, and then the Spring Equinox, and after the Qingming Festival with drizzling rain, it was the Dragon Boat Festival.

Early in the morning of the Dragon Boat Festival, Ning Jin cooked the rice dumplings that he had wrapped last night. He caught Ning Yue who was about to sneak out of the house, and forced Ning Yue and Yu Youyou to sit together and eat the rice dumplings.

Yu Youyou was eating a zongzi while stuffing it into her sleeves. Ning Yue saw her like this and immediately complained to Ning Jin who had just come from the kitchen: "Ajin, Yu Youyou stuffed zongzi into her sleeves!"

Ning Jin heard the voice and quickly walked into the front hall. Seeing Yu Youyou's bulging sleeves, he chuckled and asked, "Did you bring this to your friend?"

"Yeah." Yu Youyou glared at Ning Yue, then nodded obediently to Ning Jin and said, "I told him yesterday that the rice dumplings made by Ajin are delicious. I will definitely bring them to him today."

Ning Yue, who was glared at by Yu Youyou, was still smiling playfully, but after hearing this, he stopped and looked at Yu Youyou.

After a while, Ning Yue laughed again and asked casually:

"The friend who was painting the Spring Boat?"

"Yes." Yu Youyou nodded and said as a matter of course: "Ajin will definitely bring rice dumplings for Fang Ling, I will just bring some for Ke Ming."

"Hmm..." At this point, Yu Youyou thought about it and changed her words: "I'd better bring two more."

Although she seldom sees Ali and Brother Minghua in Gusu City, she can share it with them if she meets them.

"Is there anyone else?" Ning Yue asked casually.

"Yes." Yu Youyou nodded, "It's Sister A-li, and Taoist Minghua."

Hearing these two names, Ning Yue quickly grasped the key point and jokingly asked, "Do you also know Taoist Priest Minghua?"

"I know him." Yu Youyou nodded without hesitation. Although she had not spoken to Taoist Master Minghua here, they knew each other after meeting him a few times.

Ning Yue immediately became interested when he heard this, "I heard that Taoist Minghua comes from a famous family and has great magical powers. He has caught many ghosts in the city in the past few months."

Speaking of monsters, Ning Yue propped up his head and sighed, "How come there are so many monsters in Gusu that a general like me can't do anything about it?"

Hearing Ning Yue's complaint, Ning Jin laughed and responded, "Brother is so unruly. Even if it's not a ghost, I'm afraid there's nothing we can do about it, right?"

"You are so good, Ajin. In your heart, I am your brother like this!" Ning Yue widened his eyes, his eyes full of disbelief.

Ning Jin was not afraid of Ning Yue at all, and continued: "Then ask Youyou, are you like this?"

Ning Yue immediately turned his head and looked at Yu Youyou expectantly with his beautiful peach blossom eyes. Yu Youyou was stared at by him for a long time, tilted her head and thought for a while, then asked seriously:

"But Ning Yue, don't you know how to tell fortunes? Taoist Minghua can tell fortunes too, and he can even catch ghosts, so you should be able to do it, right?"

When Ning Jin heard Yu Youyou's serious question, he immediately covered his mouth and laughed, "He doesn't know how to tell fortunes at all. He just makes up stories and fools people. How can he be compared with a real Taoist priest?"

Yu Youyou gradually opened her eyes wider, looked Ning Yue up and down, and nodded: "It really doesn't seem like it."

When Ning Yue heard Yu Youyou's doubtful voice, he immediately shouted, "Youyou, you don't believe me either!"

After saying that, he looked at Ajin again and shouted in the same tone: "Ajin, you actually said that to me, you have changed! You are no longer my good sister!"

But after hearing this, Ning Jin's smile faded, and he said to Ning Yue in a nonchalant tone, "People always change."

Seeing Ning Jin like this, the smile on Ning Yue's face slowly froze, and there was a hint of chill in the air.

Yu Youyou's eyes flickered between the two of them, she lowered her head, grabbed a few more dumplings and stuffed them into her sleeves, then ran out quickly, "I'm leaving!"

Ning Jin heard the sound of Yu Youyou leaving, then he withdrew his gaze indifferently, picked up the food box on the table, and walked out.

Ning Yue sat on the rattan chair, watching Yu Youyou leaving briskly, and then saw Ning Jin carrying the lunch box, and opened his lips slightly:

"Now you and Fang Ling have a deep affection for each other."

When Ning Jin heard this, he glanced at Ning Yue, his expression still gentle, but his voice was not very enthusiastic: "It's okay."

After hearing Ning Jin's answer, Ning Yue looked towards the dead peach tree in the yard. His voice was a little soft and he remained silent for a long time.

Seeing that he didn't say anything, Ning Jin picked up the food box and walked out, but was stopped by Ning Yue again.

"I'm afraid it's going to rain. You should go home early."

"Yeah." Ning Jin looked up at the sunny sky and nodded to Ning Yue.

After Ning Jin left, Ning Yue stood up. Thinking of what Yu Youyou said, he chuckled and said to himself, "The actors and actresses of Huachunfang are indeed well-known, but I don't know how they compare to me."

At this time in Gusu City, Minghua was staying in the residence of a foreign official.

Children in the city have been falling ill frequently in recent days, most of them suffering from high fever that lasts for a long time. Many children have died as a result, and everyone is in danger for a while.

Li Qiongxiu, the six-year-old youngest son of Mr. Li, has been having strange dreams recently. After waking up, he talks nonsense and says he wants to go find his playmates.

But his playmate had died of fever a few days ago. Mr. Li thought that his son was possessed by an evil spirit, so he invited Taoist Master Minghua to exorcise the evil spirit.

"Thank goodness Taoist Minghua is still here, otherwise I really don't know what to do!" Mr. Li stood by his young son's bed, looking at Minghua who was taking his child's pulse, and kept complimenting him.

Normally, a Taoist who went down the mountain to gain experience would not stay in one place for a long time, but Minghua went against his usual practice and lived in Gusu City for more than three months.

"Many children have died in the city recently. I'm afraid there is an evil spirit causing trouble. Now it has come to haunt my Qiong Xiu. Taoist priest, you must help us get rid of that monster!"

Minghua did not respond until he had finished taking Li Qiongxiu's pulse. Then he looked at Mr. Li and asked:

"Sir, your son has been ill for more than three days. Why haven't you found a doctor yet?"

"That doctor can't exorcise ghosts. My daughter Qiongxiu has been harmed by an evil spirit. What's the use of calling him?" Seeing Minghua's unhappy expression, Mr. Li spoke cautiously.

"There are indeed evil spirits in the city, but you should not blindly blame everything on the ghosts. I have examined your son's illness and found that there is no ghost in him. It should be that he heard that his friend had died and was frightened. The evil spirits entered his body and he got a fever."

Minghua took out a piece of straw paper, wrote down a few medicinal herbs on it, and handed it to Mr. Li.

"Please go to the pharmacy and get the medicine according to the prescription. The young master will be cured after taking the medicine in three days."

Mr. Li quickly took the prescription. Minghua nodded to Mr. Li, but his eyes looked up at the beam without leaving a trace.

A-Li, who was wearing a red dress, was half lying on the beam. Seeing Minghua looking at him, A-Li blinked at him and mouthed:

"Master Minghua."
