Harry Potter: Who cares about belated motherly love?

Chapter 3 How Good It Would Have Been If I Hadn’t Given Birth to You

We were heading to my father's warehouse, a place I had never been to before and which didn't look like it was locked.

"Is it really okay to just go in like this? There shouldn't be any anti-theft traps or anything like that, right?" I asked.

"No problem. Father seems to be only interested in collecting things. He is satisfied after collecting them. Although there are some things he particularly likes, as long as we don't touch them, it's fine. Maybe he has discovered that we secretly took things away, but he has never told Mom. He doesn't care about the things deep in the warehouse, so they are basically not discovered."

Fred said as he walked deeper into the warehouse.

"There are a lot of things here that I don't know the purpose of. They're around here, right?"

He said and handed me a bag.

I searched through the contents of the bag and it felt like I had picked them up straight from a garbage dump. Some of the bags looked like they were thrown away directly after a trip, others looked like they were picked up from merchants, or were discarded items from an office. In short, it was just a bunch of junk.

The two of us began to check the contents of the box.

Fred and George had already looked through the pens that were there when they came over, so we started opening boxes that had never been opened.

It took more than two hours to finally find a cardboard box full of office supplies deep in the warehouse.

"Found it! Great! Now I can write a letter asking for help!"

I opened the box and found it filled with new pencils, pens, and notebooks.

Before we found this box, we also found some old things.

"But isn't it a bad idea to leave these things in the room?"

I asked, but Fred waved his hand:

"It's okay. You can leave it in George and I's secret base. Put everything you can use into this bag and take it away."

We planned to take the cardboard box away directly, and also put all the notebooks, drawing paper, pencils, erasers, ballpoint pens, fountain pens, dictionaries, paper clips, folders, etc. we found earlier into the bag.

Next, we temporarily stopped our homework, went back home, and secretly took some flour to make pancakes to fill our stomachs. While eating, we discussed how to organize these things.

Percy seemed to be in better shape, eating his pancakes quietly, and I breathed a sigh of relief.

"Pencils don't work well on parchment, do they? I've tried it before, but it wasn't easy to write on. It's not that I couldn't write at all, but I just felt the effect wasn't good. Some pens aren't easy to use either, right?" said Fred.

I nodded and said, "Yes, this kind of fountain pen that needs to be refilled with ink works well on parchment, but pencils are more suitable for use on Muggle paper, which is made of plant fibers. Also, there are two types of ink: water-based and oil-based. Water-based ink will dissolve when it comes into contact with water, but oil-based ink is more resistant to water. However, most of the pens here are unusable because they have run out of ink."

Although the pens were a bit rough when tested on drawing paper while eating, we still started to select pens that could be used.

Because these pens have been left unused for so long, many of them are no longer usable.

"Oil-based ink can be written on a variety of materials, such as metal and Muggle synthetic resin. However, it tends to seep through to the back when written on thin paper. You see, like this."

"Wow, that sounds quite convenient. The ink used in the magic world should be water-based, right?"

“It should be water-based.”

“But it’s actually pretty water-resistant, right?”

"Wait a minute! The ink used in the wizarding world is not still gallic acid ink, right? No wonder they are still using quill pens! I have always wondered why they don't use dip pens or fountain pens. Quill pens are cheap and wallet-friendly. They may still consider the financial situation of students and parents..."

“What are you talking about?

"In the Muggle world, there are several kinds of ink. The ink used in fountain pens is all water-based, but it is divided into three types: dye ink, pigment ink, and gallic acid ink. Although they are all water-based, except for dye ink, the other two are more resistant to water. Pigment ink is also commonly used in fountain pens, but it is easy to clog the nib. However, for those who use fountain pens frequently and take good care of them, pigment ink is a good choice.

But if they are still using quill pens, the ink is probably gallic acid ink. This ink corrodes metals, and only pens made of expensive materials such as gold and platinum can be used for a long time. Of course, in the future, gallic acid ink that is less reactive may be developed, but this means that people without money cannot prepare this ink.

However, gallic acid ink has the highest durability and is indeed suitable for use in magic. I still need to check the material of the fountain pen to see if it can be used, but fountain pens are generally more expensive, so it should be fine."

""I didn't know there were so many types of ink. I really want to go to a Muggle stationery store and take a look. ""

"Although I also use pencils, it is troublesome to sharpen pencils. It is also very troublesome to use a knife to sharpen them. You also have to be very careful when using magic to sharpen the pencil, otherwise it is easy to break the pencil. It is very troublesome. If you concentrate too much on writing, you will have to sharpen it again soon. It is really troublesome..." Fred sighed.

"There's a handy tool called a pencil sharpener. Look, this."

As I said this, I found a small pencil sharpener from the pile of miscellaneous items and started sharpening the pencil with it.

Next, I pulled out a larger pencil sharpener, the kind that you turn with a handle.

"'Wow! This is so convenient!'"

"Yes, and it's small and doesn't take up much space."

"But with this big sharpener, the pencil shavings won't fly around and your hands won't get dirty."

““Ballpoint pens are also very convenient, but what if the ink runs out? Some pens can no longer be used after a period of use. In fact, many pens are not easy to use. Is this pen oil-based or water-based? "”

"There are both types. The ink cartridge inside can be replaced with a new one, or thrown away after use. Sometimes, the ink dries up before it is used up, and the pen becomes unusable. You see, there is still ink, but it can no longer write.

In this case, you can only throw it away. The same goes for markers like this. If you can't use them anymore, just throw them away. This pen is no longer usable and can only be considered garbage."

"Isn't that a waste? It would cost a lot of money," Fred questioned.

“Like I said before, these things are very cheap in the Muggle world, cheaper than a piece of frog chocolate, so they are basically thrown away after use.

Pens are expensive, but other stationery is basically cheap. Otherwise, it would be more difficult for poor children to go to school. "

"What is this light-colored pen? I can't see clearly when I write. I don't have any other pens now, so I have to use this." George picked up a slender pen.

"That's a highlighter pen. It's not for writing. For example, if you want to write the explanation of the spell 'Rumos' like this, you can draw a line through the word 'Rumos' to make it easier to remember the spell. Adding a fluorescent mark will make it more conspicuous. Students often use this when studying, and of course adults use it too."

““So that’s it, mystery solved.””

Amidst the lively conversation with my twin brothers, I carefully wrote a serious letter.

- After the two older brothers Bill and Charlie left, no one dissuaded their parents, which led to the deterioration of family relations. Although Percy tried to mediate, the situation did not improve at all.

- Although they bought everything for Ginny, her younger brothers did not receive the same treatment. Even though the younger brothers cherished and used old things, as long as Ginny wanted them, their things would be taken away. Even if Ronald raised objections, they were not accepted. Because Fred and George were dissatisfied with this, the number of pranks increased. As a punishment, the younger brothers were often deprived of food.

- Birthdays were ignored, no presents, not even a cake, not even a birthday wish, and when George pointed this out we were told "If only you had never been born.

- Only the parents and Ginny went to Diagon Alley, the brothers all stayed at home, and during this time, even lunch and dinner were not prepared, usually Ronald cooked.

- Ever since they began to be frequently deprived of food, Percy's condition became abnormal, he was listless all day, stopped studying, his reactions were slow, some days he couldn't even have a normal conversation, and he didn't eat at all, his weight was also decreasing, although the three of us would get some ingredients ourselves and cook secretly outside, so we didn't have to worry too much about us going hungry.

- Although Percy's condition is very bad, his parents and sister don't seem to be worried at all. Therefore, we urgently need to ask our uncle to take Percy in as soon as possible, even if it is only temporarily. As for our three younger brothers, they are still full of energy and there is no need to worry.

- Percy would have a complete meltdown if he waited until Bill and Charlie came home for the next holiday, so it was important to act quickly.

- I used to use old things in my daily life, and now I don’t have any new clothes. I can only wear worn-out patched clothes.

- My mother and sister often rummage through my things, so it’s best not to reply. If you must reply, please be very careful.

After I wrote this down, I went over it with Fred and George.

"When we wrote it down objectively, it was really terrible that the parents had no idea what they were doing. If they had only had Ginny as their child, maybe it wouldn't have been like this..."

"'They just want a daughter, right?'"

"……yes."

Fred and George read over what I wrote and confirmed it was correct.

"I really didn't know they said those things to you on your birthday." Fred scratched his head.

George explained: "Ronald was ignored on his birthday and he didn't really care? But I think mother was a little unhappy about it."

"why?"

"She probably wants Ronald to beg them to celebrate his birthday?"

"She seemed a little angry that Ronald didn't care at all."

"Ha, it's hard to understand. They really think I care about these things." I smiled disdainfully and then looked at the twins.

"Anything else you want to add?"

The twins shook their heads at the same time.

"Then let's mail the letter as soon as possible. George, you go and mail the letter. I'm going to take these things to our secret base with Ronald now."

We started packing usable items from the table into bags and putting garbage into paper bags and sending them back to my father's warehouse.
