The Witcher: Darkness Falls

Chapter 60 Weather Tower

Stregobor's location is easy to find. You can find him by asking someone, because there is only one wizard like him.

He was on top of a tall black tower not far from the port of Bakara.

This tower is called the Weather Tower by the locals. At critical moments, the wizards on it will cast magic to influence the weather.

The tower is nearly fifty meters high and has a lamp on the top. It lights up when night falls and guides ships on the sea.

They had seen the tower before entering the port of Barakha, but they had not thought much about it.

"I always thought it was just a lighthouse, but I didn't expect Stregobor to live in it." Lyon said.

He knew this lighthouse before and had seen it from a distance.

However, he had never been to Bakara Port during his mission, so naturally he didn't know that there was a high-level wizard living in that tower.

"What's so strange about this? Today's wizards are basically descended from elves, and even their habits are inherited as well." Zivar said as a matter of course.

"Oh? What do you mean?" Leon asked in confusion.

Most of the wizards' heritage came from the elves. He had seen this in history books, because wizards almost always used the Elvish language when they chanted spells.

Runes and magic circles are also composed of elven runes.

“Elves are good at air and water magic, so the higher their magic station is, the better.

The elves in ancient times liked to build tall towers, or simply live on a big tree, and with them were tree spirits.

We dwarves are different. We are good at earth magic and fire magic. Gnomes are also good at this.

So we don’t have the habit of building tall towers.” Zivar explained.

Leon looked at Zival in disbelief and asked, "Do dwarves also have wizards? I remember that you were mostly warriors and craftsmen?"

Zival rolled his eyes and said in a condescending manner, "Young man, if the dwarves didn't have wizards, where would our world-class enchanting technology come from? Do we rely on the charity of the elves?

You think of wizards holding staffs, wearing robes, chanting spells and stirring up the wind and clouds, right?"

Leon nodded, this is what is recorded in history.

Powerful wizards usually have several large-scale spells. Although the casting time is relatively long, the power is terrifying.

The best way to deal with these wizards is to cut their throats with a sword before they finish their chant.

"Tsk!" Zival said disdainfully, "Because we dwarves don't live on trees, we need to mine and forge weapons, so our wizards mainly study earth magic and fire magic.

Nowadays, wizards have a powerful "earth-shattering" magic, which we call mining magic, and it was invented by us dwarf wizards.

This magic was originally used to break the rocks in the mountains, making it easier for us dwarves to dig out the ores deep in the mountains.

Later it developed into the 'Ground Rift', which was usually cast by several wizards.

Once this magic is cast, the earth will crack and mountains will collapse. You can imagine what an earthquake looks like. This magic can achieve such an effect."

When Zival talks about things related to dwarves, he always has a sense of superior pride.

In his eyes, the dwarves are the best and most powerful!

"Our great elder is a wizard and a warrior. He is good at both fighting and earth magic.

We dwarves are not to be trifled with. Before humans arrived, this continent was inhabited by dwarves and elves, but dwarves generally had the upper hand until humans showed up.

I won’t talk about this anymore, it’s a thing of the past.

All you need to know is that elves are good at fighting, but not as good as dwarves.

As for magic, we are all good at it, but the dwarves are very good at it. Our wizards don't say they are wizards, so you can't even tell they are wizards when they stand in front of you.

In this land, you can see our dwarven buildings everywhere. Even all the prosperous cities you are familiar with were built on our dwarven cities.

The elves' cities were almost all in ruins.

Do you know why most of the magic of human wizards is passed down to elves?"

Leon thought about it and began to understand.

Zival chuckled and said, "Because you humans can take away the elves', but you can't take away the dwarves'!

That's the truth.

There are only two possibilities for a race's secrets to no longer be secrets.

Either this race is strong enough, so strong that they are not afraid of others knowing their secrets.

Either this race will be completely defeated and everyone will know their secrets.

Can you guess what kind of elf it is?"

Lyon naturally wouldn't guess.

He was skeptical about Zivar's words.

After all, this came from the mouth of the dwarves, and as everyone knows, dwarves and elves don't get along, and both sides are slandering each other.

The difference is that the elves like to slander the dwarves in more obscure ways, like calling the dwarves "mounds of dirt" and calling the dwarves who are on good terms with them "goblins."

But it’s different for the dwarves. They can just point at the elves’ noses and curse them in the most vulgar way possible.

The former can subtly change people's perception of dwarves, while the latter, which is just insulting, has an immediate effect.

The two chatted like this and soon arrived in front of the tower.

However, there was a stone wall between them and the tower, and the iron gate on the wall was tightly locked.

Leon put his hand on his chest to stop the medal from beating.

He felt the scent of magic.

But even without the Demon Hunter Medal, he still had a strange feeling in his heart as he approached the tower.

As if attracted by some mysterious force, he couldn't help but look towards the tower.

"Is it the work of the wizard's meditation method?" Leon thought to himself.

This was one of the ancient inheritances he had obtained in the cave, the wizard's meditation method.

According to Stregobor, even if he did not intend to become a wizard, there would be no harm in practicing wizard meditation.

On the contrary, it can make his mental will stronger, and his resistance to mental magic attacks will be stronger than that of ordinary people.

"It seems to have given me a certain perception of magic." Leon thought to himself.

In addition to enhancing resistance to mental magic, it can also enhance magical perception, which is quite good.

"It seems that the wizard is not in the tower. What should we do?" Looking at the locked iron door, Zival asked with a complaint.

Leon walked forward and stretched out his hand to push open the iron gate, but his hand was unable to move forward when it was less than five centimeters away from the gate.

Blocked by a transparent magic barrier.

"Strigobor!" Leon looked up and shouted, "Are you in the tower? I'm Leon, I need your help!"

However, there was no response from within the tower, as if Stregobor was truly absent.

Leon frowned. It seemed that the other party had really left and he didn't know when he would come back.

They could wait, but the problem was that the dwarf in the carriage couldn't wait any longer. After a long journey of four days and three nights, his condition had begun to worsen.

I definitely can’t last the month that old Phil said, at most half a month!

"I have another idea." The dwarf suddenly said at this time, he smiled slyly, "Since this wizard has set up a magic barrier, it means he doesn't want anyone to enter his tower.

But if his tower was attacked, he might sense it and come back."

Leon thought about it, turned around, pulled out the special steel sword on the horse's back, then swung it violently and slashed at the iron gate in front of him.
