Hogwarts: I am the White Lord
Chapter 443 Wizengamot Meeting
When Sebastian stepped into the spacious conference room on the second floor of the Ministry of Magic, he was greeted by a group of wizards in purple robes.
They sat scattered around the oval conference room, the silver "W" badge on their left chest gleaming in the light.
Everyone had different movements and expressions. Some were buried in the documents on the table with frowns; some were talking in low voices, occasionally glancing at the door; others seemed absent-minded, tapping the armrests of their chairs with their fingers out of boredom.
Sebastian's eyes quickly swept across the wizards and paused for a moment on the half-moon lenses of Dumbledore's glasses.
Dumbledore was standing on the podium, and right in front of him sat Fudge, whose face was as dark as a gloomy cloud. There were two topics today, and one of them was about Voldemort. Fudge was certainly not happy.
Sebastian gave Dumbledore a slight nod, then walked over to the empty seat next to Amelia Burns and sat down there.
"Sebastian," Amelia tilted her head slightly and whispered, "Fudge has been refusing to acknowledge the return of the You-Know-Who. Do you want to take this opportunity to attack him and drive him away?"
"No need," Sebastian chuckled, his tone relaxed, "Let him jump around again."
"Besides, there are too many people in the wizarding world who like to pretend to sleep just like Fudge, and even many of our friends here are the same," he said with a smile, "Forcibly waking them up will only result in half the effort and twice the result, so let's wait a little longer."
After seeing Sebastian sit down, Dumbledore opened a document on the table and tapped it lightly, attracting the attention of all wizards.
"I, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, as Chief Wizard of the Wizengamot, formally open this meeting of the Wizengamot."
The conference room suddenly became quiet, with only the occasional rustling sound of the conference stenographer's feather pen scratching across the paper.
"The first topic," Dumbledore glanced at the participants, and finally his eyes fell on Sebastian, "to discuss whether to accept Mr. Sebastian Swann as a formal member of the Wizengamot."
His voice was neither hurried nor slow, and there was an unquestionable majesty in his calmness.
"Everyone has a detailed document in front of them, which lists Sebastian Swann's outstanding contributions in many fields. Please read it and have a free discussion."
As Dumbledore finished speaking, low voices of discussion gradually rose in the conference room.
"Do we still need to discuss this matter? Look at this brilliant resume. As the richest man in the wizarding world, he has made donations to the Ministry of Magic many times. After becoming a professor at Hogwarts, he also donated a large amount of gold Galleons to support the education of the wizarding world."
"The development of the new city of Hogsmeade will boost the economy of the wizarding world and create a large number of jobs."
"The reform of Azkaban was also his suggestion. After the labor reform, the prisoners changed their ways and stopped stealing. Instead, they found decent jobs."
"That's right!" Scrimge, the head of the Auror Office, said in support, "There is data provided by our Aurors. After the reform of Azkaban, the number of dark wizards in Knockturn Alley has dropped dramatically, and the frequency of criminal incidents has also dropped significantly."
"Huh?" There was an interested voice from the crowd, "Is this true? The method to improve the success rate of the Patronus Charm was also invented by him?"
"I can prove that this is indeed the work of Professor Swann," Dumbledore explained on the podium. "There is nothing false about this. If you remember, you should still remember that the Ministry of Magic once sent Dementors to guard Hogwarts."
"During a match against Durmstrang in the European Inter-School Quidditch Cup, the Dementors rioted and rushed into the school. Students summoned their Patronuses to drive the Dementors away."
"Ahem..." Fudge's face turned even darker when he heard about the Dementor riot. He coughed and muttered, "It was just an accident."
Unfortunately, with the exception of a few wizards, most of the wizards ignored Fudge's mumbling and instead talked excitedly.
"I remember watching the live broadcast of the game. I was stunned when all kinds of guardian gods soared into the sky."
"Don't be afraid of being laughed at by everyone, but I still haven't mastered the Patronus. To be honest, Hogwarts should offer a summer class for adults so that we can go back and study the Patronus Charm."
"Let me add one more thing," said Dean Bolton of St. Mungo's Hospital, standing up. "Sebastian has developed an advanced application of the Patronus Charm - healing souls damaged by dark magic."
"Frank and Alice Longbottom, these two heroes were tortured by the Death Eaters at the end of the last wizarding war, and eventually became soul-broken and completely insane."
"Sebastian personally taught Neville Longbottom and used the advanced techniques of the Patronus to heal both of them. Now they have recovered and the family is reunited again."
Everyone remembers this incident. The news reported it crazily at the time to celebrate the two heroes' recovery and return.
Sebastian leaned back in his chair, listening to people's discussions with a smile on his face.
To be honest, this Wizengamot seat did not have much appeal to him.
After all, in this system, any decision requires repeated meetings and discussions, and even some complex proposals may take one to two years to be finalized.
Sebastian is quite disgusted with this inefficient working mode. Deep down, he prefers dictatorship.
Of course, the dictator has to be himself.
What's more, even if he is not a member of the Wizengamot, it will not prevent him from influencing the trend of the wizarding world. After all, he has quite a lot of friends in the Wizengamot.
This proposal was actually made by Amelia. In her words, she was tired of helping Sebastian relay the content of the meeting every time. It would be more efficient and convenient for Sebastian to become a member of the Wizengamot and participate in the meetings in person.
"Sebastian also resolved the riot at the Quidditch World Cup so that the Ministry of Magic would not be embarrassed in front of the whole world."
Amelia raised the documents in her hand and said loudly to everyone, "These materials are enough to prove Sebastian's excellence. There is no reason for the Wizengamot to reject such an excellent person."
There were loud voices of agreement all around, and even Fudge didn't think there was anything wrong with it.
Seeing this, Dumbledore said loudly: "Now let's vote by raising our hands. Those who agree that Sebastian Swann should become a member of the Wizengamot, please raise your hands."
As he spoke, he was the first to raise his hand and looked around the audience with a smile on his face.
"Unanimous approval," Dumbledore led the applause, "Sebastian Swann is welcomed to join the Wizengamot."
After the applause died down and the conference room became quiet again, he put on a serious expression.
"Let's start discussing the second topic, which is about Voldemort and how to deal with the upcoming wizard war."
