Mysteries: Arcana Wars

Chapter 199 A Small Request

Most of St. Julie's offices are underground, and this one is no exception.

People's imagination of underground spaces being damp and cold has completely disappeared in the information revolution. The excellent high technology of the 14th century of the Sixth Epoch has provided this underground office with sufficient comfort, which is no worse than the rooms above ground.

The complete indoor environment system provides a good air environment and temperature for the room. The bright top light source provides soft light for the room and will be slowly turned off when Gloria takes a nap. Simple metal supports black leather and wood, which constitute the few furniture in this space.

In order to alleviate the depression and psychological discomfort that may occur in the underground confined space for a long time, the designer also installed a fake floor-to-ceiling window on the wall. Under the gray curtains, the high-definition display screen continuously projects the real-time street view outside the church, as if this is actually a shop facing the street.

Simple black and white style, high-quality and delicate user experience, regularly maintained and updated mechanical system, everything is just right, one more point would be redundant, one less point would be a defect.

Gloria's current office was actually renovated later and is not what it looked like when St. Julie's Church was first built. In fact, St. Julie's Church has undergone tremendous changes in the past three hundred years.

The original St. Julie's Church was first built before the millennium, when Gloria was still an underage choir girl. In the subsequent Skyward War, St. Julie's Church was a frequent battlefield and suffered serious damage. After Gloria officially took up the position of bishop after the war, her first major task was to preside over the reconstruction of the church.

In the reconstruction plan, the above-ground chapel of the church still maintains its original appearance. However, for the underground part of the church, the church has made a comprehensive optimization design after absorbing a lot of combat experience in the Sky War.

Now Gloria recalls the intensity of work at that time, it was simply a disaster. At that time, she had almost no chance to close her eyes every day, and even the pitiful sleep needs could not be met. She felt embarrassed by the dark circles under her eyes, so she wore sunglasses to and from get off work every day. As a result, the subordinates who were too caring about their new boss interpreted it as "the new bishop unfortunately became blind in the Sky Curtain War"...

As the current bishop of St. Julie's Church, Gloria was undoubtedly respected and loved by everyone in the church when she first took office. Her performance in the Sky War has proved that she is qualified for this position and has lived up to everyone's expectations.

So when she first took office, her colleagues and subordinates showed great enthusiasm and interest in the reconstruction of St. Julie's Church, and spontaneously asked the new young bishop to leave some details to them with confidence, such as the decoration of their own offices.

So the busy Gloria didn't pay much attention to these things until she finally moved in.

It’s not that Gloria doesn’t like it here. On the contrary, she likes it very much and is even very grateful for everyone’s care and help during that difficult time. This office is really very comfortable.

But she felt that compared to her eldest grandson Osborne's nest filled with dolls and pillows, this cold design covered in black, white and gray might, perhaps, seem, or... lacked a little bit of vitality.

Perhaps because of her work attitude, the designers didn't even buy Gloria a sofa bed for a nap. The young designer, who was too young to lose face and full of expectations, came up with such a lazy idea, and ended up bringing her own folding bed to work.

But this seemed to have the opposite effect, so much so that during subsequent equipment maintenance, the logistics staff would diligently prepare the latest...folding bed for Gloria.

You guys don't want me to get off work anymore?

After that, Gloria never dared to raise any requests to the logistics department about office issues. Just like when she was young, when her colleagues began to have a stereotype about Gloria's formal work uniform, she never thought of buying some bright clothes to take home when she just became a night shift worker, for fear of meeting colleagues who were shopping on the road.

And then the days went on like this. Having only simple black, white and gray in the closet was not a big deal. It did not affect my work, nor did it affect my ability to kill or set fire to something, nor did it affect my ability to punish some foul-mouthed bastard.

As she was thinking, Gloria's wandering gaze fell on the "floor-to-ceiling window" in the distance.

I should put a pot of red roses on my desk, or pink roses, or a row of succulents under the display. It's at least a little life.

Yes, that's what I should have done. I should have done it three hundred years ago.

Gloria, you are the boss here now, you can ask your subordinates to put a fresh rose on your table every day! And you can put a different color every day of the week!

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

Buckle.

The knock on the door was like a button that made Gloria jump up from the folding bed immediately. She put the bed back to its original state in the blink of an eye. All her wandering thoughts were extinguished in an instant, and Gloria completely entered the working state at this moment.

"Please come in."

The new assistant walked quickly forward with a stack of documents and arrived at Gloria's office on time. He reported his work clearly and concisely, and then stood there quietly, waiting for Gloria's instructions.

"Thanks for your hard work."

The young assistant seemed relieved. After saying goodbye, he turned around and prepared to leave. Even his steps seemed to become lighter.

"and many more."

Gloria looked up and met the assistant's gaze.

The assistant who was called was stunned for a moment, as if he was frightened. Then he turned around and looked at Gloria nervously, pursed his lips uncomfortably and smiled briefly. Finally, he lowered his head slightly and looked at the bishop behind the desk awkwardly and nervously, feeling awkward and frightened, full of expectation and awe.

Gloria looked at the assistant in front of her, was silent for a moment, and finally spoke.

"Remember to have lunch."

After giving a brief response, the assistant immediately fled Gloria's office, with even the collar of his shirt slightly wet.

An invisible gap delayed this request from more than three hundred years ago for another day.

Gloria sighed silently, but the next second, there was another rapid knock on the door that had just been closed.

She recognized that the person who came in this time was Toby Tapea, a faceless man of Sequence 6, who belonged to the Comet team that was directly responsible to Gloria. Today it was his turn to be stationed at St. Julie's Church as a communicator.

"Madam! The Comet has encountered the Exile!"
