Chapter 15 Dean Sinedu

Emlyn closed the door gently and placed the food on the table.

"Teacher, I'm back. Let me take over."

The old dean responded sullenly, but did not stop his work. Instead, he pointed to the computer and a large stack of reports next to him.

"Record the case."

The warm lunch had no appeal to the old dean. But the lunch break was almost over, Emlyn thought. He was so hungry just now, but now the old dean was still sitting here steadily, typing on the keyboard with a serious expression.

Emlyn had not seen the teacher have lunch today, nor had he even seen the teacher have breakfast. Before he arrived, the teacher had already been sitting in the dean's office, with a pair of bloodshot eyes struggling to squeeze open layers of loose eyelids, struggling and stubbornly catching up with the jumping cursor, just like before Emlyn left the night before, just like the multi-hospital consultation last week, and just like the old dean went to work every day in Emlyn's memory.

But the only thing the teacher had eaten and drunk today seemed to be the tea water that he had brewed. Emlyn opened his mouth to persuade the teacher to at least eat something, but finally gave up. The teacher wouldn't listen, so he might as well help the teacher make more.

The director of the Backlund Earth Church Hospital, Sinedu Williams, was the most important person in Emlyn's life for more than 20 years. Dean Sinedu picked up this bloodshot child on the way back to Feynetport and sent him back to the Earth Mother Church in Feynetport. At that time, the Loen Earth Mother Church was in decline and there were occasional frictions between the two countries. Dean Sinedu believed that even if little Emlyn had Loen blood, it would be safer to grow up in the church in Feynetport.

No one expected that the relationship between Feynaporte and Loen would inexplicably become increasingly tense. Dean Sinedu kept traveling between the two countries, trying to gain the last living space for the only remaining church hospital. In the end, he simply stayed in Loen and tried his best to run this half-remaining church hospital.

In Feynaport, Emlyn's Loen bloodline became more subtle. Even though he had a pair of red eyes that were favored by the Mother Goddess, some subtle voices were heard behind the little boy, which made Sinedu feel uncomfortable. So Dean Sinedu overcame all difficulties and brought Emlyn back to Loen, recommending the talented Emlyn to Backlund's medical school.

Emlyn didn't care about current affairs. He only cared about the wandering lives of himself and the dean. However, he felt that everything was so inexplicable. Any strange reasons could become the grounds for the politicians of the two countries to accuse each other. In the end, all the anger pushed Emlyn's unclear future further away.

The bonsai in the office was full of life, and the green leaves under the sun made the office more lively. Emlyn usually watered and cared for it, which was a piece of cake. The sandwich was getting colder, and the only sound in the small room was the clacking of typing.

At this moment, Dean Sinedu suddenly tapped the keyboard violently, deleting all the words he had just entered. Then he threw the keyboard away and slumped down weakly in the old chair.

"Emlyn, our hospital may be gone."

Dean Sinedu stared blankly at the ceiling with his hollow eyes.

"They said that next year, a large portion of the funding from the Loen government will be cut. But the problem is that the funding from our Church of the Mother Earth has not come in. This is like an unsolvable problem. The Feynaport government will say that we are maliciously transferring funds, and the Loen government will say that local medical institutions must obey unified management and impose a large amount of taxes on the funds given to us by the church..."

Emlyn was a little dazed as he listened to this. As a doctor who lived a pure life, he rarely cared about other financial issues except for his daily worries about his student loans. The financial problems of the Backlund Earth Mother Church Hospital had always been difficult due to political and religious restrictions. The support it received was really a bit shabby compared to the huge flow of people in the hospital. But Emlyn did not expect that the hospital had already reached such a precarious state.

"Doctors need to eat, and patients need to eat, but the price really can't go up any further..."

The exhausted old dean murmured to himself.

"This is too outrageous. Since when did the relationship between Loen and Feynaport become like this? What kind of outrageous reasons are these? Did it start with the explosion of that small island? No, that's not right. That was just a match that ignited everything. Those inexplicable fights had already piled up into a mountain before..."

Dean Sinedu, with a sad face, began to recall the past, trying to find the culprit who made everything go wrong in this chaotic vortex of history, but the more he recalled, the more painful the expression on his face became.

"From the church to the hospital, we have retreated again and again. We even lost half of the old Harvest Church. Goddess, are they really going to drive us out of Loen completely?"

With his blood boiling, Sinedu grabbed the teacup and smashed it to the ground.

"If it were the Fifth Epoch, we would have already reached the doorstep of those Augustus gangs!"

Welcome to the "Era of the Bright Moon".

Sinedu collapsed all of a sudden. He slowly walked to the wall, picked up the medical records that were soaked by the bland tea, and gently brushed off the rotten tea leaves on them.

But this is the Sixth Epoch, this is the great Backlund of mankind, this is Loen where the Church of the Earth is not allowed to preach. Invisible chains tied Dean Sinedu's hands.

Emlyn had never seen the gentle teacher lose his composure like this. After a brief pause, he hurriedly walked over to help the teacher remove the sharp debris.

"…But the patients are innocent. I can't vent my anger on them. It's not right for me to do that…"

The rough fingers carefully wiped every intact page of the case, and suddenly grabbed the student's pale wrist tightly. Emlyn raised his head unexpectedly, but met the helpless eyes of the old dean.

"Emlyn, am I unable to save the hospital?"

Young child, child full of hope, child growing tenaciously under the glory of the Mother Goddess, how can I dance with heavy shackles?

The teacher's emotional breakdown was so sudden that Emlyn could not think of any words to comfort him. He fully understood the bitterness of Dean Sinedu's broken dam. Similar things happened every day in this hospital. The joys and sorrows of patients and their families became the lively appearance of the hospital, but Emlyn could clearly feel that the hospital was heading towards an unsolvable dilemma day by day, just like those patients who walked into this hospital with all their heart, closed their eyes with the last hope, but did not know whether they could still get off the operating table.

"Teacher, let's have some lunch first."

Emlyn raised his hand and placed it on the teacher's shoulder. No matter what, he felt that the teacher really needed to eat something.

"Wait……"

“Dean Sinedu!!”

A panicked young nurse suddenly rushed open the door of the dean's office.

"There's a problem with emergency bed number three! Requesting support!"
