Z-Moves are special moves that are enhanced by the trainer's natural force "Z-Power" to turn the Pokémon's moves into powerful special moves. The power of this move is much stronger than the Pokémon's moves so far, but it will cause a great burden on the trainer and Pokémon, so it can only be used once in each battle. In Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, the trainer can use Z-Moves once more with the help of Z-Rotom Power.

After the attack moves become Z-moves, they can be divided into two types according to the range of use of Pokémon: the first type includes the attributes of the respective moves, and all Pokémon that have learned the attribute moves can use general Z-moves, such as Colorful Flower Bloom and Super Extreme Flame Bomb; the other type is applicable to Pokémon with a limited range, such as Snorlax's Serious Big Blast. Z-moves that are full-strength attacks cannot be fully protected even if the opponent is in a defensive state, and will receive damage equivalent to the original 1:4.

The transformation moves will use the Z-Power to add new effects based on the original move effects. The new effects include improving your own abilities and restoring the HP of the replaced Pokémon. Different transformation moves have different Z-Power effects.

In order to use Z-Moves, the trainer must wear a Z-Bracelet or Z-PowerBracelet with Z-Crystals on his wrist. By having the Pokémon carry the same type of Z-Crystal as the embedded Z-Crystal, resonance will occur. The condition for using Z-Moves is that the Pokémon must have learned the moves corresponding to the Z-Crystal and carry the Z-Crystal. In addition, when using the Z-Moves added in Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, the Z-Crystal must be rotated before the moves can be used. Z-Moves of attacking moves have greater power than ordinary moves, but they will also lose all positive or negative move additional effects. At the same time, the power of the original moves will also be different after they are transformed into Z-Moves according to their power.

Xiaoyao discovered a different kind of competition from the Pokémon League Conference, the Grand Contest. She soon set her goal on becoming a top coordination trainer. In between Xiaozhi's challenges to the gym, Xiaoyao would carry out coordination trainer activities.

During the journey, Xiaozhi and his team were accidentally involved in the battle between the evil organizations Magma Team and Aqua Team in the Fengyuan region, and Pikachu was also controlled by Groudon. However, due to the deep bond between Xiaozhi and Pikachu, and the (unintentional) help from Team Rocket, Xiaozhi and his team finally defeated Magma Team and Aqua Team and saved the Fengyuan region.

The first friend and rival that Xiaozhi met in the Hoenn region was Masamune. Masamune's strength was similar to Xiaozhi's, and the two had fought several times.
