Torild stared at Gerlin sitting opposite him, and the smile on his face seemed a little awkward. There was a half-finished glass of amber beer on the table, and the atmosphere seemed a little solemn.

"Gerlin, don't you really want to consider it? Brigitte is not a simple person. She has been following me for a long time." Torild's voice was low, revealing a hint of anxiety.

"Torield, I don't care who the Brigitte in your hand is." Gerlin stirred the drink in his hand slowly, with a bit of disdain in his tone, "Do you think I would have any concerns because of her? This is a joke."

Thorild frowned slightly, trying to add more threat to his tone. "I'll give you a piece of advice. Don't push too hard. Brigitte is a double-edged sword. Her strengths are not just her beauty."

"Beauty means ability?" Gerlin finally raised his head, his eyes as sharp as a knife. "If that's the case, if it was just her, I should be by your side now, instead of sitting in this shabby place drinking with you."

"Do you think this situation will do you any good?" Thorild narrowed his eyes, a sinister glint in his eyes. "Have you ever thought about what would happen if I let her leave you, or worse, set a trap for her?"

The corners of Gerlin's mouth curled up slightly, as if he didn't care about the threat: "Only the weak in this world put their hopes on others. No matter what Brigitte does, she can't decide my fate. If you want to be my enemy for her, you are really naive."

Torild's face turned gloomy, and his palms clenched into fists unconsciously. He knew that Gerlin was not an easy person to deal with, but he still did not give up: "Do you really think you can ignore any consequences? My power is not something you can ignore."

"Power?" Gellin sneered. "The power you're talking about is just a bubble built up with money and power. It can burst at any time. The real power lies in the heart, not in external deterrence."

Thorild's voice was a little excited: "You underestimated all this. If I can get Brigitte out of your control, you will lose all your support. And I will win the game of chess, understand?"

"In your chess game, I am no longer a chess piece." Gerling finally put down the cup in his hand, his eyes showing determination. "If you want to attack me, I can tell you that I will not show mercy. Friends I trust will never become weapons in my struggle."

Thorild was a little angry, and the beer on the table swayed a few times as if telling his feelings: "So, you are willing to be alone and accept challenges without giving in? You are nothing but self-righteous arrogance!"

"So what if I'm alone?" Gellin didn't care, with a playful smile on his face. "You have your tricks, and I have my ways. Who will win? The answer will be revealed sooner or later in the seemingly endless struggle."

The door of the tavern was pushed open by the wind, and the shadows outside were heavy, making the atmosphere inside even more depressing. Torild suddenly stood up and whispered, "You will regret it, Gerlin. I will let you see how desperate it is to lose Brigitte!"

"I'll wait for that day." Gerlin looked at him disdainfully, watching Thorild walk out of the tavern with a hint of contempt in his eyes.

After a glass of wine, Gerlin remained indifferent and sat there in deep thought. Undoubtedly, Torild's warning was not entirely unreasonable, and Brigitte did have her value by his side. But he always had a hunch in his heart that Torild would not give up so easily.

Looking at the street outside, the dim light came in through the window and shone quietly on Gerling's face. He thought to himself that if he wanted to control his own destiny, he must find clues from Brigitte as soon as possible and lay out his own chess game in advance.

A few days later, Gerling walked into a busy market, surrounded by people and hawking. His eyes fell on the charming red-haired woman in the crowd, that is Brigitte. She was still so outstanding, as if she could attract everyone's attention.

"Brigitte!" Gerling walked towards her, his eyes showing some concern.

Brigitte turned around and smiled: "Gerlin! I'm just about to look for some rare things, do you want to come with me?"

"I have something to tell you." Gerling's tone suddenly became serious, as if he was having a profound communication.

"What happened?" A trace of nervousness flashed across Brigitte's face, "You look like you are worried."

"Torield is threatening me and wants to use you as a weapon." Gerlin said bluntly, with urgency in his tone.

Brigitte was slightly stunned, then calmed down: "He wants to use me to threaten you? That's ridiculous. He should know that my heart is on your side."

"I know, but his methods are always despicable. I'm afraid he will set a trap." Gerling took a deep breath and strengthened his determination. "I hope you can always be vigilant and not be fooled by his sweet words."

"I understand." Brigitte seemed firm, "But you also have to believe that I will not fall into his trap easily. We can face him together."

"I won't let you face any danger alone." Gerlin held Brigitte's hand firmly, and the warmth he conveyed made them feel at ease.

Just as he finished speaking, Gerlin heard a faint noise in his ears, which seemed to come from the other end of the market. Several men in black cloaks walked towards them quickly, with solemn faces, and the atmosphere instantly became tense.

"Hurry up!" Gerlin shouted in a low voice, pulling Brigitte into the depths of the market.

"Who are they?" Brigitte's heartbeat began to accelerate and she followed quickly.

"I don't know, but they may have been sent by Thorild." Although Gerlin spoke anxiously, his inner anxiety grew.

The footsteps that were getting closer and closer seemed to be the pursuit of the devil, gradually surrounding them. Gerlin gritted his teeth in his heart, not wanting Brigitte to be hurt.

"Here!" He suddenly opened a door and pushed Brigitte in quickly. The door closed behind him, and the dark room seemed to hide countless secrets.

"We shouldn't stay here too long." Gerlin whispered, observing the movements outside.

"But we have to find a way to solve this problem." Brigitte's voice was steady, and she seemed even calmer at this moment.

"That's exactly what I thought." Gerling nodded, his eyes flashing with determination. "We must find an opportunity to fight back."
