The most powerful wizard in the magic world
Chapter 187 The Power of Endurance
"Are you...are you really coming to save me?" Brigitte's voice trembled slightly with fear.
Gerlin bent down slightly, trying to make his tone sound softer. "Yes, I promise. I will take you away from here, away from these terrible guys." Hearing this, Brigitte felt a surge of warmth in her heart, but then she remembered the pain she had experienced when she was caught, and the fear in her heart returned.
"No... I'm not afraid of them, I just can't believe that you will really save me." Her voice was full of doubt and her eyes were wandering.
"I understand your anxiety," Gerling continued in a hoarse voice, trying to make himself sound more credible, "but there is no time now. I want you to believe me. I heard that you are imprisoned here and must leave as soon as possible." He looked around to make sure that no one else was approaching.
"But who are you?" Brigitte bit her lip, doubts flooding her mind. "How do I know you won't hand me over to someone else?"
"You may not believe me, but I can't lie to you." A hint of determination flashed across Gerlin's eyes in the dim light. "Waiting for us outside is a capable team, and they will protect you." The courage he showed at this moment made Brigitte relax her vigilance slightly.
She thought for a while and asked, "But I can only trust myself now. I feel like you have too many secrets. Your voice and even your face seem strange to me."
"I understand." Gerling's voice was low and gentle, as if he was trying his best to make Brigitte feel safe. "I can't tell you my true identity, but I just want you to know that I'm here to escort you and make sure you get freedom."
Brigitte moved slightly. She could feel her heartbeat getting faster and faster. That was the price of nervousness. She let go of her doubts and decided to give the other person a chance. "Okay, I'm willing to believe you."
In the dark corner of the basement, Gerling took a deep breath and secretly rejoiced. Once Brigitte was willing to cooperate, he would have a chance to take her away from this terrible place. Looking around, he silently planned the next steps in his mind. "Follow me, we need to find a safe exit."
The two walked out of the room side by side. The dark corridor was filled with a damp smell and a faint sense of urgency. As they moved forward, Gerling began to carefully observe the surrounding environment, looking for a suitable escape route.
"Which direction does this road go?" Brigitte asked in a low voice, trying to remain calm.
"This is the passage to the backyard. There are only a few guards there. We can sneak around them under their noses." Gerlin gave her a reassuring look, but he was thinking in his heart that he must act without being discovered.
As they went deeper, they saw a faint light, which was a small door between the basement and the outside world. Gerling lowered his voice and said, "It's right there, follow me!" He quickened his pace, fearing that he would be discovered by others.
"Wait, slow down..." Brigitte barely kept up. His actions were difficult for her to adapt to, and she felt uneasy again.
"Don't be afraid, hurry up." Gerling urged, his eyes fixed on the small door in the distance. He remained alert at all times, not daring to relax. He heard a faint sound coming from behind, and instantly tensed up. "Hurry!"
Under the flickering lights, Gerling tried to stay calm. He pushed open the door and led Brigitte into a small courtyard. The surroundings were shrouded in the dim night, with only the moonlight shining through the clouds to illuminate the ground. Gerling breathed a sigh of relief, finally escaping from that depressing space.
"Did we succeed?" Brigitte raised her head and looked outside the door, still feeling a little uneasy.
"Don't be happy too soon, there is still danger outside." Gerlin said in a deep voice, looking around vigilantly.
At this moment, a loud roar came from a distance, breaking the tranquility of the night. "Someone ran away! Go check!"
Brigitte was shocked, "They found us!"
"Hurry, follow me." Gerlin decisively ran to an alley nearby, and Brigitte followed closely behind him, her heart filled with fear and anxiety, but unable to stop.
"Where to?" she asked almost unconsciously.
"Go find my companions, they will take you back to a safe place." Gerlin said, with determination in his eyes, as if no matter how great the difficulties were, it would not affect his pace forward.
After crossing rows of low walls, they finally came to a hidden corner. Gerling stopped and whispered, "Wait a minute, listen to me." He looked around to make sure no one was following them.
"Where is the companion you just mentioned?" Brigitte panted, her inner uneasiness becoming more obvious due to the conflict.
"They are not far away. I just need to notify one person to ensure your safety." Gerlin raised his head and prepared to find a place to send a signal.
"But we will be caught and taken back." Brigitte's voice trembled slightly, and the haze of being imprisoned resurfaced in her mind again.
"As long as I'm here, you won't be caught." Gerlin's tone was firm and gentle. When he turned to leave, he was caught by Brigitte.
"Who are you?" Her voice suddenly rose, with a hint of pleading in her urgency. "It's not all lies, don't you want to tell me?"
Gerlin was stunned and silent for a moment, as if thinking about something. "I am a true rebel." He finally spoke, "I have lost too much in this battle, I can't lose you again." There was a hint of helplessness in his words.
"Rebel..." Brigitte's heart was full of fluctuations. She tried hard to understand the hidden meaning behind this vague identity.
"Yes, I am against those forces of greed and oppression. I hope to fight for freedom for more people like you." Gerling's eyes were firm.
"For some reason, you remind me of my past dreams." Brigitte said softly, with a hint of tenderness in her eyes.
"The power of dreams will lead us to light." Gerling gently held her hand, but his strength was extremely firm. "You have to believe that this world will change eventually."
In the dark corner, the interweaving of hearts made the two feel a little warm. Perhaps in such a predicament, each other's existence is the greatest comfort.
