Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Chapter 88: The Buried History of the Peverell Family (Part )
PS: Someone in the previous chapter's book review said why not try to cover a chicken with an invisibility cloak...
That makes perfect sense, I thought so too.
It's a pity that no one in the original book ever mentioned this experiment, even though the legend that the invisibility cloak can prevent death has always been circulating... maybe the wizard's brain circuit is not enough.
I can't fix this bug right now, but fortunately the impact is not that big. I will describe this in the future.
......
"The descendants of Ignotus also relied on this magical item that could not only conceal themselves but also hide others, and became the first Peverell descendants to fade out of the wizarding world."
Anriel pondered the meaning of this sentence...Xenophilius's choice of words...
What does "the first one" mean?
Xenophilius shuddered as if he had received an electric shock, then he looked towards the distant horizon as if reminiscing about something:
“Then, here’s the story of the second child.
After learning of his elder brother's death, Cadmus did not show any emotions such as anger, nor did he express grief and resistance to death like Ignotus.
He knew that this was the ending his elder brother deserved.
He narrowed the path.
If one resorts to force blindly, he will always become a slave to death. A man like Antiochus, who is brave and aggressive, can only bring endless lives to the god of death throughout his life, and eventually he will give his own life to the god of death.
How can a person who cannot even control his own life be qualified to control death?
The refining process and difficulty of the Resurrection Stone are far beyond that of the Elder Wand and the Invisibility Cloak.
This part of the legend is absolutely correct - Cadmus was indeed an arrogant man.
He is cold, arrogant, confident and arrogant.
He has always been hiding his shortcomings.”
Anriel pondered, and he always felt that something was wrong...
But Xenophilius did not give him time to think further:
"The Resurrection Stone... it was never created for the dead. All its uses are for the living.
Only by understanding the true meaning of life can we reach the other side of death...
Cadmus succeeded, but he also failed - but the failure was not unacceptable to him. What he could not bear was the reason for his failure:
He is a proud man, as we have just said.
The reason for his failure was that his magic power was not enough to drive the endless dead to 'resurrection'.
The Resurrection Stone is like a gate that can do evil in the long river of time at will and capriciously - but that requires the support of enough magic power to fight against all the resurrected people.
Cadmus, the extremely powerful Cadmus... couldn't do that.
Then he went crazy.”
The two of them fell silent at the same time. Anriel didn't know what Xenophilius was silent about, but he himself was thinking whether his magic power was indeed stronger than Cadmus's, enough to open the forbidden door that no one had succeeded in for thousands of years.
If the resurrection of Regulus takes longer, Anriel will also be in danger.
The silence did not last long, Xenophilius’ story was not yet finished… The end of a story, a legend, should have an ending.
"And as the legend says, Cadmus did have a deceased beauty - but she was not a girl.
It was his deceased wife.
His deceased wife left Cadmus with his only child.
After Antiochus' death, Cadmus cared for his brother's children and his own children, and after he himself became mad...
The Resurrection Stone was taken away by the older Son of Antioch.
Eventually, it passed to Lord Voldemort in the generation of Marvolo Gaunt."
This is the story of the Resurrection Stone.
Xenophilius's last words were not spoken.
Deathly silence fell between the two again, and Anriel finally realized that something was wrong.
The "legend" Xenophilius knew was... too detailed.
This is a "secret known only to the Lovegood family."
The answer... is already obvious.
Anriel laughed dryly twice:
"This is such a big secret... I never thought I would be so lucky... to marry the pearl of the Peverell family...
This is really..."
Anriel was filled with emotion for a moment.
Xenophilius did not refute, but just looked at Anriel quietly.
Sometimes, genetics really does help.
How could a man as smart as Cadmus produce such idiots as the Gaunt family?
You have to know that in the wizarding world, there are generally very few exceptions to this kind of ancient family with inherited family bloodline.
It seems that most of the Black family are supporters of the inheritance of black magic.
For example, the Weasley family... and so on.
The intelligent, even morbid Lovegood family is obviously more suitable to be the descendants of Cadmus than the reckless Gaunt family.
Anriel had never expected that the Lovegood family was actually the only bloodline of Cadmus Peverell that was passed down.
This is truly a strange coincidence.
“I understand, then, Mr. Lovegood.
Let Luna play over there first. My Thestrals will take good care of her...
Are you interested in witnessing the true power of the Resurrection Stone with me?"
Anriel and Xenophilius walked some distance further - not until anything happened that would affect Luna.
This girl is the most important person in the lives of these two men now, and they don't want her to be threatened in any way.
"Well, Mr. Lovegood, come on."
There was uncontrollable excitement in Anriel's tone.
"We are witnessing... no! We are creating a miracle!"
Anriel stretched out his arms, no longer hiding anything—
The Resurrection Stone is worn on the thumb of his left hand.
As the only living descendant of Cadmus, he must have recognized the stone the moment Anriel first appeared before him wearing it.
The surging magic power poured into the resurrection stone again without any hesitation.
The magic power that Anriel input was countless times stronger than that on the Yin Corpse Island.
Anriel's magical power is unfathomable, and has long surpassed the scope of what a human wizard should have...
The effect is immediate:
The Resurrection Stone emitted dim rays of light... a death-like light that seemed to engulf everything.
Xenophilius looked at the dark stone that came from his ancestors with a mixture of shock, obsession and awe.
There were only a few tiny cracks left on the Resurrection Stone, but not only did it not reduce its original power, but it seemed to make it emit an even deeper and more terrifying gray light.
"Mr. Lovegood, it seems we have accomplished something very great."
Anriel was amazed.
The wind was blowing fiercely, and the soul mist was rising...
In the gray haze, there seemed to be a faint sound of soul howling coming from the stone on the ring.
