Inside the huge audience room, Emperor Wuyi Wang Fadong sat on his throne, watching his children with great interest. They bustled about, painting a picture of a perfect family. Despite the loss of the two princesses, everyone continued to live their lives as if the two women had never existed.

Emperor Fadong had many descendants, but few sons. He only needed a legitimate heir, and this heir was none other than Crown Prince Wang Qianghao.

As always, the ministers representing various departments were present, except for the Prime Minister, who was locked in his study to deal with today's workload. In his study, Lord Li Chenyang silently cursed the Emperor's stack of paperwork. They both knew that Duchess Li Qixing would come today, but he was forced to work as usual.

"Here they come." Queen Huiyun spoke, and the eunuch guarding the door straightened his back.

"Welcome Duchess Li Qixing and Princess Li Xueyue!"

The princesses who were not accompanying the emperor to the games stopped chatting. Even the ministers who were chatting stopped. They were waiting for someone to come in.

It was not common for an ordinary noblewoman to be awarded such a shocking title as a third-rank princess. Even the emperor's own daughters did not have this privilege. Most of them were fourth or fifth, with only a very small number of third, and even fewer second.

The room was in complete silence as a strange woman walked into the room. Her silky hair was as black as a starless midnight. A blooming flower was painted in the center of her forehead, emphasizing her strange eyes, round and chestnut in color. Her long earrings lightly brushed her shoulders, highlighting her bare, slender neck.

There was a tranquility around her that soothed her restless heart. Her breath quickened as her painted lips slowly lifted into a smile, softening her piercing eyes.

Duchess Li Qixing bowed her head slightly and greeted. "Good afternoon, your majesty, your majesty."

Next, it was the strange woman's turn. Every pair of eyes except the emperor and the princess were scrutinizing her every move.

"Li Xueyue, welcome His Majesty, the sun of the empire, Her Majesty the Queen, the gentle moon." She whispered and curtseyed.

Fa Dongdi nodded with satisfaction. "You can get up now."

Queen Mother Meteor smiled when she saw her baby daughter. She was as cute as ever. "Qiqi, come closer."

Duchess Li Qixing gently guided Li Xueyue. "Long time no see, mother."

"My dear daughter." The Queen Mother's stiff face softened. She stood up, and immediately her maids flocked to her for guidance and support, but she ignored them. "Let's discuss this in my living room."

Duchess Li Qixing gently squeezed Li Xueyue's hand.

Queen Mother Liuxing noticed this little exchange but remained silent until her eyes narrowed slightly. "Is it Li Xueyue?"

Li Xueyue raised her eyes and felt a little in awe of the noble lady who forgot to look away - this was proper etiquette.

The Queen Mother frowned. The young lady was as bold and courageous as she had heard.

"Your smile is so lovely." Xueyue reminded the Queen Mother of someone, but she couldn't tell who it was. Indeed, she looked a lot like Prince Li Chenyang, but it felt a little strange.

"I would like to be alone with my daughter for a while," the Queen Mother told the Emperor, although it sounded more like an order.

Fadongdi nodded. He didn’t mind his sister’s absence. To be honest, it would be better if she wasn’t standing in front of him. Even from a distance, he could see that her anger had not subsided. She was the kind of person who held a grudge, and he was the culprit.

"If there is any accident," Duchess Li Qixing said softly to Li Xueyue, "Excuse me, I will ask the servants to drag my husband here. Don't worry, child."

Li Xueyue nodded slowly.

Duchess Li Qixing smiled at her and left with the Queen Mother. She stole a glance at the Emperor, who followed her with his eyes until she disappeared.

"Little girl, do you know why I called you here?" Fadongdi said with an elusive smile.

Li Xueyue shook her head. \"I'm afraid not.\"

"What a shame, I thought you were smarter than this." Fa Dongdi joked, and then pointed to a group of women beside the golden stairs. They were stunningly beautiful, without a single flaw on their faces.

"These are the candidates sent by Han Jian. Cute, aren't they?"

Li Xueyue blinked.

"Which one is the most eye-catching?" asked the Fadong Emperor, with a playful twinkle in his eyes. "Oh, but please be careful when you choose. You don't want to offend one or two princesses, do you?"

Li Xueyue smiled shyly, surprising the emperor. "Every woman has her own beautiful side."

“Why don’t you pick the one that stands out the most?”

“Can you choose between priceless diamonds, rubies, sapphires, pearls, and emeralds?”

Hearing her question, everyone held their breath and looked warily at the emperor who had been laughing since Li Xueyue came in.

The emperor clapped his hands slowly and smiled. He nodded to a eunuch, and soon two men came to Xueyue with a large velvet tray.

On the tray were two sets of necklaces, matching earrings, priceless jewels, rolls of gold, silver and silk.

“Give your words a gift.”

Li Xueyue’s look was the same as when she came in, empty and calm. Seeing these extravagant gifts, her smile did not widen, nor did she frown. There was no change in her expression at all. No one could get past her wall.

"I'm afraid I can't accept these gifts."

"Oh? Why not?"

“Words are just words.”

"But some of them can be soothing to the ears, especially when they are clogged. Your ears always amuse me, little lady."

Li Xueyue did not respond. She just lowered her head.

The Emperor sighed in disappointment and waved his hand. He wanted to test the limits of her so-called indifference. He wanted to see how far she was willing to go to hide the human greed that existed in everyone he met.

"That's good, then," he said. "Give these to the Lees."

Li Xueyue's body trembled, her eyes widened. She resisted the urge to argue with the emperor.

He watched her every move keenly, waiting for her to lose her composure. He knew she didn't like these big gifts, but the more she hated them, the more he wanted to burden her. She was a very unique girl, one he rarely met.

"Do you want to know why I ask you to choose from these gems?" asked the emperor.

Li Xueyue did not respond. She held back her tongue and waited for him to continue.

"Do you know what's happening with the candidate representing Hanjian now?"

“They are bringing honor to their family.”

The emperor laughed. She reminded him of Wen Jinkai. The fatal stab was subtle. She was retorting to him what King Li Tao had said.

"Yes, it is. Especially since one of my daughters married a prince and another married a distinguished general. You know what I mean, don't you?"

Li Xueyue nodded.

"Then can you predict who these Cold Sword candidates will marry?"

She nodded again.

"Perfect." The emperor's eyes twinkled and his smile was brilliant. For some reason, it reminded Xueyue of a Cheshire cat with malicious intentions.

"I hope you can choose a suitable candidate from among these women."

"For whom?"

The emperor grinned. "Wen Jinkai."
