Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 383 Behave
Li Xueyue discovered that this archery competition was very similar to the Wuyi Spring Competition that year.
Clay plates would be thrown into the air, with one point awarded for each broken plate and three points for each flying pigeon. She just wished they would be allowed to bring horses, which would make everything easier.
Soaring into the sky with a bow and arrow is a very challenging task, but for Princess Mengjie, it is nothing.
Wherever Li Xueyue went, wherever she turned, the clay tablets would shatter on her. The fragments fell down, and she tried her best to avoid them and not get scratched. It was a dangerous situation, especially when she felt that the princess was targeting her.
Li Xueyue could even sense when the plate broke.
"It's too dangerous," she breathed a sigh of relief when a sharp piece of debris almost grazed her face.
Li Xueyue did not call a halt, but let the attack continue. It didn't matter to her.
If the princess had only aimed at the clay tablet, it would have been meaningless. But Li Xueyue went straight for the pigeon. Every time she shot down a pigeon, she felt full of guilt.
Although the birds' deaths were painless and quick, she hopes they were not in vain.
"Ouch!" She hissed in pain as a piece of broken clay fell directly on her head.
But before she could touch the burning spot, another plate broke near her and fell near her shoulder.
There were whispers among the onlookers. Everyone could see that the foreign princess occupying the plate was plotting something.
"Last ten seconds!" A voice came from somewhere.
Li Xueyue gritted her teeth, took aim, and kept walking, dodging the iron plates. Her body subconsciously spun, and the hem of her skirt also spun gracefully.
She was unaware that everyone was staring at her. Her graceful and beautiful figure mesmerized everyone and made them unable to look away. Despite the malice in her determined eyes, she was still stunning.
Every time the princess loaded her arrows, a bird would fall. It took her less than a second to aim and she would hit a bird.
"Who would have thought a woman from Wuyi Mountain could do this?" someone commented, with voices of approval.
No one knew how good the Crown Princess' archery skills were, especially her precise shooting, and she ignored all interference.
Li Xueyue finally saw it. Among the ceramic plates and the flying pigeons, she found the most valuable thing.
A small ball, no bigger than a fist, was thrown into the air, its blue color matching the sky and almost blending into the canvas.
Li Xueyue immediately reached for another arrow, but found that the quiver was empty. She cursed inwardly, swooped down and picked up an arrow from the ground. But the arrow was stuck in the ground and it was difficult to pull out.
"Come on..." She said, annoyed that things weren't going in her favor.
"Crown Princess, be careful!" Li Xueyue shouted as soon as she heard a voice. The voice was so small that it was almost inaudible - just like the sound of an arrow cutting through the air.
Li Xueyue saw it. An arrow flew straight at her. Whether it was intentional or not, it was too late. She didn't fall to the ground in time. But she didn't need to.
Just a few seconds before the arrow was about to pierce her body, Li Xueyue caught the arrow with her hand. She took a deep breath and looked into the eyes of the sharp arrow. The sound of drums came from afar, and the game was over.
"Li Xueyue!"
Before she could react, two hands forcibly lifted her up. Li Xueyue was not frightened by the arrow, but just stared at Yu Zhen blankly. Although he ran over from the golden stairs, he didn't look out of breath at all.
"Does it hurt?" he asked, brushing the dirt off her shoulders.
"That damn princess." Yu Zhen turned her head sharply to the side, and Princess Meng Jie took a step back hesitantly. If looks could kill, she would have fallen to the ground and died long ago.
"I'm fine," she reassured him as she put the arrow down.
Yu Zhen pursed his lips. He almost declared war on Nanhui and wiped out their people starting with the royal family.
"Really," she added, seeing the murderous look in his eyes. His jaw was set. It trembled with irritation.
Li Xueyue watched as the foreign prince came forward. Princess Mengjie seemed excited to see him, thinking she had won the game. But her smile soon disappeared.
Prince Yang was furious and seemed to be scolding her harshly. Princess Mengjie slowly lowered her head.
"it hurts."
Li Xueyue touched Nan Hui's head, pouted, and a hint of hesitation flashed in her eyes. She didn't know what to do now, whether to declare war on Nan Hui or comfort her. Finally, Yu Zhen reached out and pushed Nan Hui's hand away.
He rubbed the top of her head slowly, with a worried look on his face, "I can't let your head get any smaller."
Li Xueyue stared at him in amazement. There was no trace of smile in his eyes. He was serious! "I have a big head," she hissed, slapping his hand away, but he kept his hand there firmly.
She ignored his gaze. "That's not how you treat someone who's injured."
Yu Zhen narrowed his eyes and rubbed her head angrily, "Just don't move."
"Like I'd let some random woman take you away."
Yu Zhen finally stopped frowning, the corners of his mouth twitching, "Do you really think I will let you go?"
"Oh, shut up." Li Xueyue muttered, ignoring the gleam in his eyes. His hatred was replaced by happiness.
Yu Zhen walked closer to her and put his arm around her waist, "I said, I don't want anyone else but you, Yangguang."
As he caressed her cheek lovingly, Li Xueyue’s heart was thrilled. How could she protest when he treated her like this? She could feel everyone’s eyes, watching their every move.
Li Xueyue wanted to break free but couldn't. It was too difficult. It was not because he was strong, but because he was gentle. He took good care of her, like a sand castle that could collapse at any time.
"We can't stand here too long. I have to prepare for the sword fight."
"It flew over my head."
Li Xueyue felt a little tangled after hearing what he said. He was just upset because of the archery competition. The wound on her head was very light, and the pain had long disappeared. But she knew that once he made a decision, he would not waver.
Li Xueyue was well aware of the fear in his heart and he was worried about her life safety.
"I will win."
"I know." Yu Zhen wiped the last piece of dirt off her shoulder. She was too small in his arms, so he had to be extra careful.
"I won't get hurt."
"you will."
"Yu Zhen, the people need to know," Li Xueyue whispered. "Han Jian needs a strong leader, and--"
“I am a strong leader.”
Li Xueyue gave him a fierce look. He knew what she meant, but he continued to argue.
"They need two."
“You don’t need to prove anything to anyone.” Yu Zhen’s touch on her cheek turned into a pinch.
"Listen to me, my dear wife."
"Not this time."
"When did you hear that?"
Li Xueyue lowered her head, not daring to look him in the eye, and Yu Zhen rarely disciplined her.
"Just this once, behave yourself."
It was even more difficult for Li Xueyue to refute. His voice was soft and desperate. This was the first time he made a request to her.
"Everyone has taken notice of you."
Li Xueyue bit her lower lip, looked up, and finally saw the expressions on the faces of the royal family and ministers.
Several nobles who were invited to watch were also stunned. No one thought that this little princess from Wuyi could shoot arrows, and no one thought she could shoot arrows.
"No further proof is necessary."
Yuzhen turned her chin towards the imperial family. A satisfied look appeared on the queen’s face. Even the emperor himself was satisfied with what he saw.
Li Xueyue took the lead soon after the game started. She didn't need to endure the shattering of the pottery plate and hitting her. She should point out Princess Mengjie's mistake and stop the game.
Her title gave her unlimited power. But she exercised none of it.
Li Xueyue held on until the last second, enduring the torture, just to get the final points. The victory already belonged to her. But aiming at the small ball target showed her firm determination.
He whispered, "That's enough."
