Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble

Chapter 333: This debate will last for several days

Li Xueyue was sure that Xu Jiaqi would be in trouble in the long run. It was as simple as asking Yu Zhen to get rid of that woman.

He had promised her that he would remove all obstacles in their way. But what would people say? Especially after she got along with him today, how would the emperor and the queen feel?

Li Xueyue frowned. In the upper class society, words are weapons. She should use it instead of a real knife.

She could not change the fact that she had killed her own father. She was now a monster - a monster that desperately grasped at humanity.

"She will be punished," Yu Zhen said suddenly. "For disobeying orders and trespassing into my private study."

Li Xueyue did not respond. She lay motionless in his arms.

Li Xueyue didn't want to get involved in all this. She thought these types of little dramas were beyond her ability to bear. She didn't come to Hanjian to throw mud at others. Her lips curled downwards.

How many Xu Jiaqi are there in this palace? How many women are willing to sacrifice their lives for the prince? How many of them do not cherish their dignity, pride and value?

"Don't worry." Yu Zhen comforted.

He released her embrace and held her hands. Li Xueyue's silence made him a little worried. And when she looked at him blankly, her silence confirmed his suspicion.

"Your world seems to be shattered." Yu Zhen whispered.

He pulled a few strands of hair away from her face, but it fell back down, framing her tiny head.

"I was betrayed once before," Li Xueyue said. "I saw history repeat itself."

"This is a misunderstanding."

"I know."

"Then why do you look so depressed?"

Li Xueyue bit her lower lip. He could comfort her with countless vows, and she would listen and repeat them in her mind, but her heart would never listen.

"Actions speak louder than words." Li Xueyue said.

She looked up to meet his gaze, feeling the wind rushing through her body. He looked at her with adoration, as if she were his muse. His warm obsidian eyes showed concern.

"You don't trust me," Yu Zhen accused.

Li Xueyue immediately shook her head. "That doesn't mean-"

"This is."

"No, listen to me—"

“No matter how much I assure you that there will be no other women in my life, you won’t believe it until you see them all disappear with your own eyes,” Yu Zhen pointed out.

Li Xueyue shut up. This is true. This is her selfish, crazy wish, which is difficult to achieve, especially in his position.

Everyone would vie for his attention except her. She refused to praise the ground he walked on, refused to bow her head, refused to be treated less than him.

"Is possessiveness wrong?" Li Xueyue argued. "You do the same for me—"

"Because I know how men see you!"

"Do you think I don't know how women stare at you?!" She was annoyed.

"They are not important—"

"Neither will anyone else!"

Yu Zhen stared at her like a madman. "What about Wen Jinkai? Is he unimportant? Are you saying that the commander who puts his feelings for you above his family is not important at all?"

Li Xueyue's voice stopped abruptly. Was this how he saw her? A woman at a crossroads, unsure of her lover?

"We're all hypocrites," she argued harshly.

“Really?” Yu Zhen gritted his teeth. “I don’t know.”

Li Xueyue frowned deeply. This kind of sarcasm was unnecessary.

Li Xueyue stared at him, pain and irritation flashing across her face. She saw the same emotions on his flawless face. His eyes darkened and his jaw clenched. A muscle ticked.

Finally, she looked away from him and took a step back. She held her stomach and sighed.

"Do we need to bring up the past?" she muttered.

Yu Zhen frowned. He looked away and held back a sigh. The past should be left behind them.

Yu Zhen didn't mean to mention Wen Jinkai. He couldn't control it.

He had been irritated by another man who had made her jealous before. He knew it was foolish of him to be jealous. What was there to worry about?

In the final analysis, Li Xueyue belongs to him. Just as he did to her. Isn't this the bigger picture?

A long silence followed. Outside the window, a petal fluttered in the wind. A breeze stirred the candlelight. An echo floated through the trees, carrying the sound of the forest. The world was full of life, louder than the stubborn lovebirds.

"It's getting late." Yu Zhen finally said. "You should go back to your room."

Li Xueyue buried her fingers deep into her palms. So this is what he wanted their relationship to be like. She gritted her teeth and turned around. Without saying anything else, she walked to the door. But then she stopped.

She let out a shaky breath. As soon as she walked out that door, their accusations would continue to hang in the balance. Their problems would be swept under the rug, forgotten until someone tripped over it and got hurt.

"Let me ask you this." Li Xueyue said. She slowly turned her head to face him. "Have you ever had feelings for Xu Jiaqi?"

"If I said yes, what would you do?"

Li Xueyue pursed her lips. "If I told you I like Wen Jinkai, what would you do?"

Yu Zhen’s eyes became solemn. He took a step forward. A chill entered the room. Somewhere, the candlelight was blown out. Darkness seeped out from the corner.

"That's right," Li Xueyue muttered. She crossed her arms and walked towards the door.

"How would you react if I said no?" he growled.

Li Xueyue's body stiffened.

"Will you continue to doubt me? Will you continue to question my sincerity? What will you do?"

Li Xueyue stared at the ground.

"Goodnight," she said sternly, putting a hand on the door.

"If you get out now, I'll take that as a yes."

Li Xueyue's grip on the door tightened. She didn't want to face her insecurities. She didn't want to admit her trust issues. Too many things were bothering her, most of which were not good for Jane.

"I always take the initiative, don't I?" Yu Zhen suddenly said. "From chasing you to stopping you from running, I was the first to do it."

"You want something in return." Li Xueyue said. "What is it?"

"How many times do you want me to prove that my feelings for you are genuine when you've never done your part in the chase?"

Li Xueyue turned around angrily. "I never asked you to chase me." The words stopped on the tip of her tongue. She hated that the thought even flashed through her mind.

“I’ve never done my duty?” Li Xueyue repeated. “Oh, as if running to the other side of the country in terrible weather just to marry you didn’t do anything.”

"This is all because of the proposal I initiated."

"Are we really the kind of people who would record who did this and who did that?" Li Xueyue argued.

"Yes, we are too stingy to do that, you know."

“No, I don’t know actually,” Li Xueyue said. “If we track every little thing, we’ll go crazy. This is a relationship, not a competition.”

Li Xueyue pinched the bridge of her nose. “I don’t even know why we were arguing. You wanted me to go to bed. So I went to bed. But then you stopped me, and then—”

"All this because if we don't come to a conclusion tonight, this debate will go on for days."

Li Xueyue shut up. "So what do you want? For us to kiss and put on makeup as if our trust issues hadn't just been exposed?"

"What do I look like? A mirror?" Yu Zhen said.

Li Xueyue was taken aback by his words. She was enraged. She was not the kind of person to participate in a screaming contest. It was not in her nature to do so. But she was ready to argue with him.

"I don't have trust issues—"

"you do."

"I do not."

"you do."

"I really, really don't!" Li Xueyue shouted.

"Then why do you look so hesitant?"

"What the hell are you talking about?" she asked sternly, hoping that this conversation would end there and then.

Yu Zhen looked her straight in the eyes. He attracted her attention easily.

"So why do you hesitate in relationships? Why are you so afraid to let someone in? Why do you shy away from people who adore you? Why are you unwilling to share your thoughts?"
