Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 320 Don’t touch me
Yu Zhen finally finished processing the documents in his office. Lu Tianbi and Hu Dengxiao accompanied him to prepare for a routine tour of the capital. After completing a round of analysis of urban activities, they would meet with the capital's leaders for regular discussions.
"Your Highness." Xu Jiaqi spoke as soon as he saw him.
She bent her upper body into a steady arch that accentuated her long neck, and when he excused her she looked up and smiled tenderly.
"What is it?" Yu Zhen asked in a cold tone. He had places to go and people to meet.
"Wha-well, look—"
Lu Tianbi narrowed his eyes.
"Your Highness, we should go now," she said. If they were together like this, it would cause some unnecessary rumors.
There have been whispers about the prince's preferential treatment of Xu Jiaqi. Men rarely interact with women unless they are prominent figures in the court, such as the only female commander of the traitors.
Yu Zhen nodded after hearing what she said.
He brushed past Xu Jiaqi but felt a gentle tug on his sleeve, forcing him to stop. He froze at the touch and looked down to see who had grabbed him like a fool.
"I didn't mean to arrest you, Your Highness." Xu Jiaqi rushed out. "I just wanted to get your attention. Look, the Queen sent me out to see you."
Yu Zhen's brows knitted together in dissatisfaction. His mother? She had some guts to ask for his audience.
The last time they had talked was a few weeks ago, when he stormed out after she tried to trick him into accepting an outrageous proposal to reduce taxes on the nobility.
"However, Your Highness, I don't think you should go to see the Queen." Xu Jiaqi said again.
Xu Jiaqi didn't want to seem like she was siding with the Queen—especially when she knew how much the Crown Princess despised her mother.
"I was in trouble just now. I was passing by her palace and one of her maids waved me down. Please convey this message to you, Your Highness. I am deeply sorry if this has caused you any inconvenience." Xu Jiaqi said.
Xu Jiaqi looked up at him through her eyelashes. She wondered if he was looking at her. She hoped so. Her hand was still on his sleeve. She was not sure if he knew this fact.
But he didn't shake her off. This only meant that he didn't mind her touching him - which was a rare thing. Not many people had touched the prince. Especially not so close to him.
"Don't waste my time with such stupid requests." Yu Zhen sneered.
Yu Zhen frowned at her. He had given her a new chance in life. He thought she was much smarter than this.
How dare she stand on the Queen's side? Her excuse is ridiculous.
"I'm so sorry, Your Highness!" Xu Jiaqi was angry.
Her eyes widened, and she feared for her life. She fought back the tears that threatened to spill. He was so scary when he was angry. How could she make him smile the way she did?
"Choose your sides wisely," Yu Zhen roared. He turned to his friends and nodded. "Let's go," he said.
"Uh, your highness apologizes." Xu Jiaqi rushed out. "Can I make you a meal? Maybe lunch? I promise it will make up for my incompetence today."
Lu Tianbi had never frowned so quickly. What a shameless woman. No wonder the declining Xu family looked down on their eldest daughter. She was not as smart as they thought.
If someone saw the prince walking into Xu Jiaqi's residence to have lunch, gossip would spread like wildfire.
Yu Zhen will not be hurt. But what about Princess Li? How will she react to this?
Just then, Lu Tianbi noticed something was wrong. She hadn't noticed it before, but it was obvious now. Someone was watching them. Her head immediately turned in that direction.
Just as Lu Tianbi worried, a woman in the distance had turned around and walked in the opposite direction. Her figure was very unique, and beside her was undoubtedly the head maid.
Princess Li Xueyue witnessed all of this.
From the beginning of the conversation to Xu Jiaqi putting her hand on the prince's sleeve. In her opinion, Yu Zhen did not reject Xu Jiaqi's advances.
"Your Highness," Lu Tianbi said. "Please forgive my interruption," she apologized. She quickly looked to where the princess had left.
Yu Zhen understood it quickly, but he didn't see everything. The only thing he saw was half a dead body disappearing around the corner.
"What is it?" Yu Zhen asked.
"For a moment, I thought I saw someone. She was looking at us," Lu Tianbi said. She deliberately made her message vague, hoping that he would understand her hint.
"Oh, I noticed that too. Normally I would scare away anyone who was eavesdropping, but since it was her, I didn't say anything. She can look at you, can't she?" Hu Dengxiao added.
Yu Zhen raised his eyebrows. She? She? There are only two people in my mind. The Queen. Or Xueyue.
He hoped it was the latter.
Yu Zhen wanted to see Li Xueyue again. Today, he was free, so it would be nice to take her on a tour of the capital. This would give them some much-needed time alone. She would also get a change of scenery.
Seeing a trace of smile left on his face, Xu Jiaqi's eyes widened. He smiled. At her. For the first time since they met. Although it was small and almost unnoticed, it was still a sincere smile. Her heart had never flown so high before.
What influenced this reaction?
"Let's go to her first." Yu Zhen said. He took a step forward and finally noticed the hand that was still holding his sleeve.
His lips curled up in disgust. Without warning, he shook off Xu Jiaqi's hand. "Don't touch me," he said angrily.
Her happiness was short-lived.
Xu Jiaqi trembled at his harsh words. His tone was vicious. His dark glare almost tore her apart. He was angry at her actions.
Xu Jiaqi was afraid of losing his favor, so she immediately knelt down.
"Your Highness, I'm sorry, I won't do it again!" she pleaded. She bowed, hoping it would put him to rest.
Yu Zhen glared down at her. What an irritating pet he had acquired without realizing it. He made her kneel on the sidewalk. He never looked back, nor did he forgive her.
"Also, Your Highness, I think Xiaojuzi has been a little uneasy lately." Lu Tianbi said in a low voice, and the two of them headed towards the Crown Princess's palace.
"Oh my god, I agree, Tiantian!" Hu Dengxiao exclaimed. "Last time I fed him, he almost bit off my hand!"
"You're being too dramatic," Yu Zhen retorted. "But I'll go see him later."
Lu Tianbi pursed her lips. "Your Highness, he can't wander around the palace." She reminded.
"I know." Yu Zhen said.
Despite this, he would still give Xiaojuzi this privilege. Besides, Tiger rarely went anywhere without his master. The place where Xiaojuzi went most in the palace was near the gate of the Prince's Mansion.
Yu Zhen no longer has to worry about his pet biting someone. Even if it does happen, that person probably deserves it.
