Hu Dengxiao stifled a sharp gasp as the ink grinder slammed to the ground with such force that the hard wooden floor cracked and dented. He swallowed, thankful that it hadn't hit him, though he suspected the crown prince was targeting him.

"What are you waiting for?" Yu Zhen growled fiercely in a low voice.

Hu Dengxiao raised his head hesitantly. His heart had never fallen so fast before.

The prince was already mad to the extreme, but he was very calm. The silent storm brewing in the prince's eyes was more terrifying than a violent outburst. At least for the latter, chaos was foreseeable.

"Send out our soldiers, I want to search the entire country." Yu Zhen stood up, angrily.

Hu Dengxiao saw Yu Zhen clenching his teeth and swallowed his saliva.

Yu Zhen's fingers were clenched into fists, and thick strings were drawn on his muscular forearms.

He would hang the bandits. No, he would slowly torture them in front of their wives and children. Only when he deemed their pleas desperate enough would he eliminate the bandits.

"We have sent out soldiers," Lu Tianbi reported. "They are searching the kingdom as we speak. But the problem is..." Her eyes fell on the closed window of the private study.

Lu Tianbi bit her lower lip. The prince spent the whole night and morning in this room.

A day had passed since the carriage was discovered, but with the windows closed to prevent disturbance, the prince was unaware of the bad weather outside.

"Go on." Yu Zhen demanded.

Lu Tianbi wished she could do more than that. She knew how much Yuzhen was looking forward to meeting the princess, but now, everything was ruined.

"The carriages were found yesterday morning. Yesterday afternoon...it started to rain. It's still raining as we speak."

Lu Tianbi held her breath, but she was unprepared for the crash of the desk. She screamed and watched in horror as the desk, which was heavier than a horse, was overturned to the ground.

"Your Highness," Lu Tianbi said in a low voice. "This kind of violence will not bring any harm to the princess--"

"All night long," Yu Zhen muttered quietly. His eyes were wide with pure anger. "Stayed in the forest all night long? No food? No shelter? And with heavy rain pouring down on her?"

Lu Tianbi could only lower her head in shame. "But, despite this, we still sent soldiers to look for her. They worked hard to find her regardless of rain or shine. There was nothing we could do except wait--"

Her eyes widened as he lunged at her. But she didn't flinch or back down, because the Commander never raised his hands to a woman. Especially one he cared about.

She expected him to stop in front of her and whisper an order, but he didn't.

He did something that frightened her more than his apparent anger.

He rushed out of the private study. His footsteps were loud and purposeful. He was quiet and deadly, and he had been given a mission.

"Your Highness!" Lu Tianbi ran to the door in a rage, only to find that he was already deep in the corridor.

"Where are you going?! It's going to thunder and rain soon, if you go out now--"

It was too late. Yu Zhen had already turned the corner.

Lu Tianbi let out a frustrated scream. She turned to Hu Dengxiao angrily. "You're just going to kneel there?!"

"Why did you only tell him half the truth?" Hu Dengxiao retorted. He stood up and staggered towards her like a half-dead man.

"Tiantian, are you crazy?!" Hu Dengxiao yelled and shook her shoulders anxiously.

"From your tone, it seems that I comforted him with lies or something. Besides, the commander might turn this entire palace upside down—"

He shook his head in disagreement. "You have to hurt him with the truth. Our commander at least accepts that."

Lu Tianbi put his arm around her shoulders. "What on earth are you talking about? Look, this is not half the truth, it's the whole truth. I didn't lie to our commander, and I would never do that—"

"You lied to him. The soldiers are still searching as we speak. Outside the rain is falling so hard and so relentless that no one can see anything except their outstretched hands. Even with the helmet's visor it's still difficult to walk in the forest!"

Lu Tianbi's lips opened. What? "I know it's raining hard now, but that doesn't mean the soldiers will give up their mission. They know my words are absolute."

"Which ones did you send out?" Hu Dengxiao asked.

"The best seekers and trackers are out—"

"From Silent River Squadron?"

Lu Tianbi cursed in a low voice. The Silent River Squadron was a hidden force trained by the Crown Prince himself. They were the best of the best. No words could describe their strength. No one knew their identities except the three of them.

But until today, Lu Tianbi had rarely seen them unable to move for any reason. At most, they were protecting the crown prince and people he considered valuable. But usually, the Silent River Squadron blended into the crowd like ordinary soldiers.

"No, not them..." Lu Tianbi's voice gradually weakened.

"Then we will be in even bigger trouble." Hu Dengxiao said expressionlessly.

Her face turned pale as the strong wind blew rain into the room. She fell to her knees in sheer terror. Her commander had rushed out into the horrible storm, with nothing but his chamber robes and his horse?

She let out a shaky gasp.

"No..." she whispered.

Lu Tianbi greatly underestimated the seriousness of this mission.

"This is impossible..." Lu Tianbi whispered, covering her mouth. The rain that entered the room through the window pricked her skin like thousands of needles.

Searching for the princess in this storm is not only dangerous. It is a suicide mission.
