Reborn Daughter: The Young Lady Wants to Make a Trouble
Chapter 191 The final farewell
Li Wenmin was stunned. He could almost feel the disbelief and disappointment in Xueyue's wide eyes.
'Did he go to Hanjian? Did he really leave me here? Without any final farewell? Li Xueyue pursed her lips and scolded herself for asking such a stupid question.
Li Xueyue was the one who declared that it was okay for him to leave her—that she could be alone. She was the one who pushed him away forever. What made her think that?
Her insecurities hurt the man she loved. She trampled on his heart and destroyed her own. There was no way she could turn back time.
Even so, Li Xueyue still hoped that he could stay for another day so that she could explain it herself. She wanted to tell him that if he could wait for her a little longer, maybe she would go to Han Jian, but not with him. But soon. Soon, she arrived.
Now it all seemed like a false reality. The future she had dreamed of was beginning to crumble before her eyes, and she was to blame for it. She couldn't fault anyone but herself.
"Did the commander tell you where he was going?" Li Wenmin asked, thinking it would be better to get to the bottom of it. Maybe Yu Zhen didn't go to Hanjian, maybe he was just traveling around the country? Although he doubted it...
"Well, I didn't have any conversation with the commander-in-chief," Lord Li Taojun explained. "I just heard from the servants that he had gathered his men and left the palace."
"Are there still his people in the palace?"
“I don’t think anyone is left behind, but there may be some who are left to pack up.”
Li Xueyue hoped he wouldn’t make it sound like Yuzhen would never come back, but she blamed herself again. Of course, he wouldn’t come back. His work in Wuyi was done. He had delivered the candidates safely and enforced the treaty between Wuyi and Han. Why else would he stay in Wuyi?
Li Xueyue discovered that during the first quarrel, Yu Zhen did not explain why he left in such a hurry. He jumped into the carriage as if it was his life. What happened?
"Besides, Wenmin, why are you looking for Yu Zhen?" Li Taojun asked, while turning his gaze back to the maid beside him. Her eyes were gentle and clear, and he felt like he had seen them before.
"I just want to know more about him." Li Wenmin lied with a smile. "Well, now that he's gone, I should go back. You'd better go to the Second Prince's Mansion."
"Well, that's a wise move, isn't it? I don't want to keep them waiting for too long." Li Daojun pondered. His cunning expression puzzled the Li brothers and sisters. If only Li Wenmin was smart enough to see through the surface and perceive the hint.
"The Second Prince has been really impatient these past few days." Li Taojun sighed. "And he keeps asking his doctor for strange ointments. I'm beginning to wonder who they're for. Apparently, he wouldn't put pressure on himself just to get a cut. Weird, don't you think, General?"
"Anyone who talks about the emperor will be beheaded." Li Wenmin warned with a smile.
The air was silent, and suddenly Lord Li Taojun let out a hollow laugh. It was blown away by the strong wind, swirling around the palace, laughing at the brother and sister.
"If I feel dizzy at such comments, it is not my fault but yours. Who else but you and your servants would hear such talk?" Lord Li Taojun laughed and wiped away imaginary tears. "General, your jokes are getting better every day."
“Don’t say my name and title. It will disgust me.” Li Wenmin frowned slightly and continued, “Especially when you use this mouth to threaten Grandpa.”
"Pfft, that withered old man? You still regard him as your grandfather? Fool! He didn't even remember you and your brothers before he died! Even your father didn't think about it. But do you know who remembered?" Li Taojun laughed and looked up.
Li Wenmin narrowed his eyes. He didn't want to continue this topic. Obviously, his uncle didn't know the meaning of respect. "Don't be so angry just because grandpa doesn't recognize you."
"At least, I was mentioned in his will. You got nothing from him."
"That's because I don't need anything." Li Wenmin smiled and shook his head. "And you..." He trailed off, looking his uncle up and down. "You need all the help you can get."
"You kid——"
"Oh, are you insulting the army now?" Li Wenmin said arrogantly. "An insult to me is a direct insult to my squadron. Can you handle it?" He gestured to the accompanying guards.
The guards were already in a near-combat stance, their hands hovering over their swords.
Li Taojun raised his eyebrows, and veins popped out on his forehead. If only he hadn't given up his military influence a few years ago. When he heard the news that he had a daughter, he almost gave up everything. A daughter, if he didn't save her, she would die at home. He did come. He wanted to take her to live a life of wealth and glory.
Now it's all just wishful thinking. The mother of the child made it clear that her daughter didn't want to see him. The mother of the child didn't want anything to do with him, even though she was forcing herself to do so.
"You have learned to speak like an adult now. I am sure your father will be proud of you. Even if you are late in development, it doesn't matter. You only need your hands anyway. They are the only useful part of you," said Lord Li Daojun with a wry smile and looked up at the sky.
“I’ve wasted too much time talking to you, kid.” Li Taojungong sighed and shook his head. “When I usually guide the royal children, I’m too generous now to talk to anyone.”
"I'm glad you know your humble position." Li Wenmin chuckled and said, "You're just a dog riding on the royal coat. It's really embarrassing, but I guess this is what you expect as a royal guard dog."
"Now, kid, you're getting ahead of yourself. What happened, kid? You used to cling to my legs and beg me to teach you everything I knew."
Li Wenmin's face darkened. He had not expected to be stabbed directly. Everyone knew that he was not the only one who requested training. Li Minghua was also pestering him at the same time.
"Now that you have mastered the technique yourself, do you really consider yourself a master? You are still a disciple who is famous because of your surname."
"Do you have such a lack of self-respect that you feel compelled to insult a 'student' who has achieved far more than you have?" Li Wenmin sighed and shook his head disapprovingly.
Lord Li Tao took a threatening step forward. "You and I both know exactly why I gave up my position in the military. Your father was involved. Do not tempt me to reveal all his darkest secrets - it would be like holding my own daughter over my head!"
Li Xueyue flinched. She hadn't expected the word "daughter" to come out of his mouth. Suddenly, her eyes widened. Wait a minute. Does this mean he knew all along? !
