Having bought so much food, more than their hands and servants could carry, Li Wenmin finally put his shopping spree on hold for a while. He had enough snacks for a normal person to eat for a week, but knowing him, he would finish them by tomorrow morning. The three found a nice little spot to sit down and enjoy their food. Well, it was mainly Xueyue and Li Chenyang who were eating, while Li Wenmin was choking on his food.

Xue Yue ate, swinging her calves as she observed the people of the town. Her eyes swept over the servants and guards standing there, then returned to the center of the city. Everyone except the servants and the armed guards sat around the benches in the capital mansion. Her free hand lazily played with the edge of the handkerchief she sat on. The servants were worried that they would get their clothes dirty if they sat on the bench like this.

Xueyue, Li Wenmin, and Li Chenyang, unknowingly, attracted a lot of attention wherever they went. Of course, the capital has always been a gathering place for wealthy people, but on weekdays, the crowds would not be so large. Each child had at least three servants and five guards - and these were just the visible ones.

Before he knew it, Li Wenmin had become quite famous among the vendors who eagerly awaited his patronage. Many of them hoped for his visit because he easily distributed meaningful gold coins. He was not the only Mr. Li who had won the respect of the people. Many people looked at Xueyue, who always remembered to thank the vendors before she left. Such a person was also hard to ignore. A beauty who was both beautiful inside and out, such a person was very, very rare.

"Is this steamed bun delicious?" Li Wenmin asked Chenyang after he finished his portion.

"Not bad." Li Chenyang took another bite and muttered.

Xueyue noticed Li Wenmin's eager gaze and smiled. "If you want, mine is fine, too." She extended her hand to the servant, who immediately handed her the bun.

Li Wenmin's face turned red faster than a kid receiving red envelopes during Chinese New Year. "Really?!" He clapped his hands happily and shouted.

Xueyue pursed her lips and tried not to laugh. Instead, she smiled and handed the hot buns to Li Wenmin. "I've had enough food for the whole day," she said thoughtfully.

Li Wenmin was so happy that he couldn't breathe and hugged her. "Yueyue, you are the best!" he exclaimed before eating the food.

Xueyue watched Li Wenmin eat with an unknown smile on her lips. She wondered how big his stomach was. To be honest, this boy never seemed to be full!

Her eyes then fell on Li Chenyang, who seemed to be absent-mindedly observing the surrounding situation. She followed his line of sight and took in the beautiful Wuyi capital.

It is truly one of the most beautiful cities in the country. The scene is lively, joyful and fun. There is always a pleasant smell of fresh food as children run among the busy pedestrians. There is a beautiful pond in the city center with small bridges connecting pavilions. On the outskirts of the capital, there is a scenic forest with a small waterfall hidden in it.

The city was always bustling with foreign merchants, local vendors, servants running errands, ladies from middle-class families socializing with friends, mothers buying groceries, and children running happily.

It was a beautiful sight for Xueyue, who had never seen anything outside the walls of the Bai Mansion. Watching people walk by, going about their daily tasks, a small smile unconsciously appeared on her face.

Although he was surrounded by a number of well-trained and fully armed guards, Li Chenyang still scanned the crowd to see if there were any threats. His eyes swept along the crowd and finally fell on Xueyue. The more he stared at her, the more conflicted he felt.

He had thought she was like most high society ladies, spoiled and ungrateful. But today, as he watched her thank the businessman, he found that she was just the opposite. There was not a trace of the elegance and humility that made him grateful in Xueyue.

Li Chenyang frowned when he saw her so quiet. She wouldn't speak unless someone spoke to her, and she rarely made eye contact when she spoke. Her eyes were always downcast, as if she was afraid to look at others.

Li Chenyang was curious about her past. The Duke and Duchess did not share any confidential information about her. He was reluctant to accept her into the family, but the more he came into contact with her, the more he wanted to know her.

Xueyue was not aware of the heavy gazes from all directions, nor did she notice a pair of special eyes outside the car window questioning her. A ragged child was running in the busy crowd, and her attention was too distracted.

"Somebody catch that kid!" a man shouted, pointing his fleshy finger at the child running with a loaf of bread in his skinny hand. He rushed over and hugged the child. This was not difficult, because the child's legs were too short and he couldn't walk far.

Xueyue saw someone trip the child, who fell painfully to the concrete floor, his eyes widening. The bread fell with him, and another person accidentally stepped on it. The hungry child continued to reach for the dirty, squashed bread, which was obviously inedible.

Before she knew it, Xue Yue had stood up and ran past the guards and servants.

Li Chenyang frowned, "Hey! Where are you going?!"

Child thieves were not uncommon in the wealthy capital, especially when war separated men from their families. The current war, which the emperor promised would soon end, had left many children orphaned. The public believed this to be true, but only a few knew that the war had only just begun.

Xueyue had experienced what it felt like to be beaten. She understood the brutal pain and the feeling of seeing her life flash before her eyes. She didn't want such a young child to go through the same experience.

The boy cried out in pain as the man grabbed the boy's hair and pulled him to his feet. When the first shout rang through the crowd, no one stepped forward. There was not even a flinch from the crowd. No one, except the other child, was willing to help the child.

Xueyue ran so fast that her legs could no longer support her. When she got there, the baker was about to slap the boy again. Her panting voice broke through the tense atmosphere: "Enough!"
