The sky and earth roared, and Li Xueyue jumped up. She walked to the window and looked out at the gloomy sky. There would be a storm tonight.

"Hopefully it won't be too loud," she said to herself.

Li Xueyue walked back to her bed and retrieved the diary hidden under her pillow. She strolled back to her desk, which was covered with empty teacups and plates. The teapot was empty, and the snacks were gone, leaving only crumbs.

She called the maid, who immediately cleared the table and prepared tea and snacks for her. When the table was set and a new pot of tea was brewed, she said goodbye to the maid and started reading the next entry in her diary from where she had left off.

"I saw Uncle in town today. I don't know what he's doing here. I haven't seen him in a while, ever since he stormed out of my house. I heard some horrible rumors about him and my dad once, but I don't think they are true. Dad is mean, but he would never backstab his own brother, right? Then again... Dad said he doesn't consider Uncle his family at all. Uncle is rarely around.

Li Xueyue tilted her head. "Uncle? Who could it be?" She asked no one in particular. Is it Lord Li Daojun? She turned to the next page.

It was so strange that my uncle was familiar with the quiet bodyguard I met a few days ago! I saw them chatting in the center of town, but this time, there was an extra man. He was dressed in a servant's outfit, but behaved like a royal. It was very strange. I didn't want to disturb them, so I pretended not to see them. ”

"Dressed like servants, but acting like royalty?" Li Xueyue blinked. Could it be... no... the possibility of the royal family being in Hechen was slim. She scratched her head and looked down at the date. Two years ago... maybe they were here to attend Bai Tianai's lavish birthday party?

"Let's continue watching..." Li Xueyue said in a low voice.

But then the uncle left the group after noticing a woman. He looked really surprised to see her. So weird! Well, diary, being the nosy girl that I am, I followed him. I don’t know why, but I just did it. He was arguing with a beautiful woman who was dressed modestly, she didn’t look like someone from the red light district. The jewelry she was wearing also looked expensive. She could be the wife of a nobleman in the area.

The woman seemed genuinely intimidated by him and claimed she had no idea what he was talking about. They were arguing over some girl. I couldn't catch her name, but based on the context, it could be a child. He asked to see her. When she refused his request, he became furious and claimed the girl didn't want to see him. Who could this girl be?

"Girl? Woman?" Li Xueyue scratched her head. Does Li Taojun know anyone in Hecheng? This diary is becoming more and more unfamiliar page by page...

'My uncle caught me. I didn't mean to be so obviously snooping, but a kid tried to rob me! He was poor, so I gave him a coin, but when he saw my money bag, he wanted more. How dare he! Not only did he expose me, he also took my money.

Uncle was furious when he saw me. He said I couldn’t tell anyone what I had seen, otherwise! I wanted to roll my eyes. What could he do to me? I’m his niece, and if he did anything to me, Dad would kill him.

“Xiaoyue?” Li Wenmin called out. When she didn’t respond, he opened the door.

Li Xueyue suddenly stood up from her seat and closed the diary behind her. "Brother Wen! I didn't hear it."

"What's so interesting that you can't even hear me?" Li Wenmin smiled and walked to her side.

"A book. Read it?" she teased, sliding it behind her back.

Li Wenmin suspected that her behavior was abrupt and secretive. "Of course, I've read a book!"

She snorted. "Are you sure?"

He glared. "Yes! I want you to know that I am a diligent scholar!"

"Did our tutor say the same thing the last time he hit you with a book?" She smiled, thinking back to a year ago. She learned quickly and was eventually able to join the twins' private lessons. No one minded and she learned a lot from it.

"He, he is practicing new skills!" Li Wenmin defended.

"Oh? What technique?"

"Uh..." Li Wenmin's voice gradually faded. He scratched the back of his head. "Imprint the information in the book into your brain?"

“What?” Li Xueyue laughed, the sound echoing in her room. He gave her an unbalanced smile because he had the power to make her grin like this.

"This technique is so stupid! Admit it, you're a bad student." She snorted.

"I don't want to be the head of the family anyway! That job is for the nerdy Chen Yang." Li Wenmin wrinkled his nose in disgust. "Did you know that he studies for fun?!"

"I do the same."

"Well, I mean, he reads educational books and scrolls! Like 'The Meaning of Life' and stuff!"

“I read it for fun too…” Li Xueyue trailed off, tilting her head to look at the bookshelf by the window. She loved reading before bed. On very lucky nights, it kept nightmares away and she would dream about her last thought before bed. Unfortunately for her, nightmares would come back to haunt her and destroy her in ways people could never imagine. Horrible nightmares of cruel abuse and obscene language.

Li Wenmin blinked. "I mean, uh...anyway!" He smiled, "Dinner is ready, let's go eat!"

"Pfft, okay." Li Xueyue looked at his embarrassed expression and chuckled. "Let's eat." She said, picking up the diary and stuffing it into the bookshelf.

Not wanting to seem suspicious, Li Xueyue hides under the covers. Suddenly, she feels guilty for taking something that doesn't belong to her and reading it - violating someone's privacy. Should she bring the diary back...?

"Oh, by the way, Xiaoyue," Li Wenmin said. "I never mentioned this to you, but there is a part of the house you can never go into. Okay?"

Li Xueyue swallowed.

"W-where?" she asked, turning her back to him while stuffing the book somewhere inconspicuous.

"It's far away from your room, on the other side of your manor. There is a guard in front. You will know when you see him." Li Wenmin told her.

Li Xueyue's heart sank to the bottom when she mentioned this place. It sounded exactly like the place she broke into.

"Why can't we go in?"

Li Wenmin blinked. He hadn’t expected that question. He wished he could have anticipated her reaction ahead of time so he’d know how to respond. He’d forgotten how curious she was about everything.

"Well, it's under construction and it's dangerous to walk there," he lied.

Li Xueyue knew he was lying. Everything there was in good condition. Although the place was a little dusty, it was probably because the Duke and Duchess wanted to keep the place.

"Okay," she agreed.

"Great." He smiled, "Then let's go to dinner!"

He walked over to her, gently grasped her wrist, and led her out of the room. He glanced back, his eyes resting briefly on where she had left the book. Why was she so secretive about this book? Could it be her personal diary? He resisted the urge to smile. It would be interesting if she kept one. He always wondered what went on in her mind. Maybe he would read it when she wasn't home.
