Rebirth of Siheyuan: Starting from escaping famine in 42

Chapter 10: Take the Train to 49 Cities

The Li Qingfeng brothers continued their journey on and off, except for going into the city to buy things. After 18 days, they arrived in Xingtai early in the morning.

Before entering the gate of Xingtai city, Li Qingfeng put away all the money he had on him except a few French francs, and stored the rest into the space. After a strict inspection at the gate, the few French francs were not taken away, and only then were the two brothers allowed to enter Xingtai.

After entering the city, Li Qingshan muttered, "Damn Japs, they ripped everything off so badly that my clothes are all dirty." As he spoke he shook his clothes before putting them into the box.

After hearing this, Li Qingfeng said speechlessly: "Qingshan, why didn't you say it at the door just now?"

Li Qingshan rolled his eyes at his brother, then said, "Brother, if I had said that at the door, I would have been shot! I'm not stupid!"

Li Qingfeng smiled and said, "You are not stupid, you are very smart. Let's not do it for now. Let's find a hotel, get a room and rest for a day before buying train tickets."

Li Qingshan said, "I understand, brother."

Li Qingfeng asked passers-by along the way and finally found a relatively affordable and clean hotel. He booked a room and parked the cart at the door of the inn. He asked the waiter to help keep an eye on it and he would come down soon.

The two brothers went into the guest room and took a look. It was just a room with two beds, a dining table and two chairs. That was it. After that, Li Qingfeng put all the luggage under the bed and said to his brother Qingshan: "Qingshan, you rest in the room first. I'm going to sell the cart and buy some food."

Li Qingshan was also a little sleepy at this time, so he nodded and said, "I see, brother, go and come back soon."

"Yeah." Li Qingfeng responded, then opened the door and went out.

After Li Qingshan closed the door, he went to bed casually.

Li Qingfeng arrived at the door, handed a cigarette to the waiter who was watching the cart, said, "Thank you", asked a few more questions, and then left with the cart.

Coming to a dead end and seeing that there were no people around, Li Qingfeng put the cart into the space, and then started wandering around the streets, buying whatever he saw that was useful.

Li Qingfeng went to the grain store and bought 200 cloth bags, which he would use to store grain in the future. He also bought some bean seeds before leaving the grain store. He no longer needed to buy grain as the space was sufficient for farming and he had harvested grain three times.

Afterwards, Li Qingfeng went to the grocery store and bought 20 large rattan frames that could hold 500 eggs, which were used to store chicken eggs, duck eggs, goose eggs, etc. He also bought 10 large water vats and 20 jars for pickled vegetables. After paying the money, he asked the grocery store owner to deliver them to a less crowded place. He then let the delivery man go. Li Qingfeng looked around and saw that no one was paying attention to this side, so he immediately put the things into the space.

Then Li Qingfeng walked to the bookstore, his eyes lit up, and he walked straight into the bookstore and looked for a dozen books that were useful to him and not in his space. After searching for a long time, he still couldn't find any. After asking the boss, Li Qingfeng realized that books like carpentry and medicine were all taught by old masters, and skills like these that could only be used to make a living would not be sold.

After knowing the reason, Li Qingfeng bought the four famous classics, "Water Margin", "Dream of Red Mansions", "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and "Journey to the West", then walked out of the bookstore, bought some meat and buns on the street and returned to the hotel.

After arriving at the hotel, Li Qingfeng asked the waiter for a pot of hot water. Then he walked to the door of the room, but it didn't open. So he knocked on the door and shouted, "Qingshan, open the door." There was no response at first, so he knocked a few more times before he heard some movement from inside.

After waiting for a while, Li Qingshan opened the door and let his elder brother in. He closed the door and said, "Brother, did you sell the cart? What did you buy? Why does it smell so good?"

Li Qingfeng smiled and said, "I sold the cart and bought some braised meat and buns on the way back. Qingshan, go wash up so you can eat when you come back."

"I got it, brother." After saying that, Li Qingshan took the towel and went out to wash up.

While the two brothers were having lunch, they decided to go out for a walk since they had nothing to do in the afternoon. Besides, they still had to go to the train station to buy train tickets.

After dinner, the Li Qingfeng brothers took a nap and then went out shopping.

Li Qingfeng and his brother found their way to the train station. After greeting, they spent two dollars and bought two train tickets to Sijiucheng at 2 o'clock the next day.

Then Li Qingfeng and his brother bought some more food that could be stored so that they could eat on the train. After they finished selling, Li Qingfeng asked his brother, "Qingshan, do you want to buy anything?"

Li Qingshan thought about it, but couldn't think of anything to buy, so he said, "Brother, I don't have anything to buy."

Li Qingshan asked again: "Qingshan, you really don't want to buy anything? We are going back to the inn and won't come out at night."

Li Qingshan shook his head and said, "Brother, I really don't want to buy anything."

Li Qingfeng said: "Okay, let's go back to the inn!"

On the way back to the inn, Li Qingfeng bought dinner for the two brothers and went straight back to the inn.

 …

The next morning, Li Qingfeng got up early, packed his luggage, and went out to buy breakfast. When he came back, he woke up his younger brother Li Qingshan. After they finished breakfast, they checked out of the hotel with their luggage and walked directly to the train station.

The two of them didn't have much luggage. Qingshan carried a rattan suitcase for clothes, while Li Qingfeng carried a backpack filled with several water bags and bedding. He also held a bundle in his hand, which contained food for the train.

After walking for about 20 minutes, Li Qingfeng and Li Qingshan arrived at the train station. They checked the time with their minds and saw that it was about 10 minutes until 7 o'clock, so the two brothers walked to the ticket gate, checked their tickets, got on the train directly, found the seat numbers on the tickets, put their luggage away, and were done.

In this era, there are not too many people taking the train, and there are no people who occupy seats and don't leave. The quality of people nowadays is much better than that of the 21st century, there is simply no comparison.

The younger brother next to him looked around as soon as he got on the train. Everything he saw was new. At this time, the train started moving. Li Qingfeng quickly said to his younger brother who was looking around: "Qingshan, sit tight, the train is about to start."

After hearing what his brother said, Li Qingshan immediately sat up straight, but his bright little eyes were still looking around. When the train started, he looked directly outside, with his face as if pressed against the window.

After a while, when the train was stable, Li Qingfeng took out the four great classics he bought and handed them to his brother: "Qingshan, if you buy them, just read the books!" Both the predecessor Li Qingfeng and his brother Li Qingshan could read, but that was all they could learn.

Li Qingshan took the book happily, looked at it for a few seconds and said happily: "Okay, brother." After that, he picked up a book at random and started reading.
